The Boss unexpectedly agreed to let the two of them stay, and both were left to speculate about their thoughts. Ziya was concerned about the file room on the 13th floor that Liu had mentioned, while Qin Nannan was annoyed by the Boss's lecherous demeanor. The Boss stated that since they were there for an internship at the News Agency, they had to abide by its rules. Any matters, big or small, within the News Agency were not to be disclosed externally; otherwise, they would bear the consequences. 0

An astonishing thing was that the so-called letters Ziya and Qin Nannan were supposed to have did not exist in either the file room or the secretary's office. However, they had to follow protocol; letters and personal information had to be submitted completely before they could officially start their internship. 0

Seeing the Boss showing signs of difficulty, Ziya hurriedly tossed his backpack onto the office sofa and began searching frantically. Upon reflection, it made sense. Since those documents they saw yesterday didn’t exist, who did they hand their recommendation letters to? Qin Nannan also found it hard to explain the strange occurrences from yesterday, so both of them searched carefully. In the end, they expressed their disappointment after finding nothing; they had checked every book and related item in Ziya's backpack, but there was simply nothing. 0

In silence, under the Boss's final concession, they were asked to fill out their personal information again. The Boss even called their school in front of them to verify the facts. After confirming everything was in order, he agreed to let them stay. With Ziya's insistence, the secretary called the file room to inquire if any personal information or recommendation letters regarding interns had been received. 0

A perplexing phone call informed them that Ziya and Qin Nannan's information was indeed in the file room, which surprised both the Boss and others. To verify this information, the Boss instructed them to go check the file room. 0

Ziya felt a heavy sense of unease; how could a news agency like Daily News Agency be on holiday? Unless something significant happened internally or all employees from top to bottom were lying... 0

“Ugh! What is this?” Qin Nannan suddenly exclaimed in frustration, angrily pointing her finger at a nearby potted plant. Instantly, five cracks appeared as green sap dripped down like tears from the plant. 0

“You... are you crazy? What’s worth taking your anger out on a plant?” Ziya’s thoughts were abruptly interrupted by someone’s outburst, filling her with irritation. Being someone who cherished flowers deeply, she couldn’t help but scold Qin Nannan softly for mistreating a carefully nurtured plant. Qin Nannan fell silent, her furrowed brow remaining tightly knit. 0

Arriving at the elevator entrance, they noticed it was a double-row elevator entryway; it seemed that the odd-numbered elevator hadn’t come down from the top floor yet. They had no choice but to choose the even-numbered elevator. However, after pressing the button numerous times with no response, walking up the stairs felt daunting as well. Remembering that only odd-numbered elevators remained that day, she thought there shouldn’t be any issues with this one. Ziya kept recalling their previous encounter with Lao Ran in the elevator with Qin Nannan; now that she calmed down a bit, she still felt a lingering sense of dread. 0

The even-numbered elevator emitted a soft 'ding' and came to a steady stop. The heavy doors opened with a whoosh. Ziya was the first to speak up about whether there was anything else inside before stepping in, followed closely by Qin Nannan who pressed the button for the 13th floor. One, two, three, four—suddenly, the elevator stopped. 0

“Oh no…” Qin Nannan murmured nervously under her breath while Ziya anxiously watched as there was no display indicating their progress; it had come to an unintentional halt. Seconds passed as panic instinctively washed over them; cold sweat began to trickle down from their sensitive nerves. 0

“It’s fine; why are you so nervous?” Ziya said as she looked at her companion, trying hard to shake off her own inexplicable fear. She thought maybe someone had pressed the button on the fourth floor and held it down. 0

"I’m not nervous; you’re the one who’s nervous. Why are you pulling me if you’re not?" Qin Nannan closed her eyes, not wanting to see the slowly opening elevator doors, and whispered in reproach. 0

"Who’s pulling you? Hmph!" Ziya stared intently at the elevator doors. Since Qin Nannan was beside her, she ignored the comment about pulling. The elevator doors opened and closed silently, and aside from a cold breeze that swept in, everything seemed fine. Minutes passed, but suddenly the lights in the elevator began to flicker and then went out completely. 0

Let it be dark! The elevator was still moving upward, so it didn’t delay their journey. However, Ziya started to feel uncomfortable; the elevator suddenly felt cramped. Even though there were only two people in such a large space, how could it feel so tight? Realizing something was off, she took out her phone to check... and what she saw nearly scared her to death. 0

At that moment, Qin Nannan felt quite relaxed; the power outage in the elevator was nice. This beautiful girl was definitely afraid of the dark, wasn’t she? Just a moment ago, she had denied pulling him, but now she was leaning against him. When Ziya turned on her phone's light, someone screamed in shock, leaving Qin Nannan dumbfounded. It wasn’t Ziya leaning against him; it was... some chubby nurse... who was now staring at his face with a ghastly grin, her pale face almost touching his. 0

Ziya wanted to reach for the sachet around her neck, but her limbs seemed frozen, and her heart raced wildly. An invisible and eerie force separated them; one leaned against the left side while the other leaned against the right. The unusual chill in the elevator made them shiver as they pressed tightly against the walls. 0

5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13—the elevator stopped with a familiar 'ding,' and the doors opened. The elevator felt suddenly empty as all pressure released from their bodies; the chubby nurse's eerie figure floated out of the elevator. Yet Qin Nannan still dared not move; his shirt was soaked with sweat. Rapid breaths echoed in the narrow space as Ziya looked at him with a furrowed brow filled with sympathy. 0

"Are you okay? It's over! They’re gone," Ziya said as she felt like she had broken free from some strange restraint. She squatted down to look at Qin Nannan. He didn’t dare raise his head but pointed behind her instead. It wasn’t that girls weren’t afraid; it was just that she had experienced too much fear and seemed numb to it all. However, under sudden circumstances like this, she was still frightened. 0

"They haven’t left... I’m still here..." a chilling voice suddenly echoed behind Ziya. Her hair stood on end as her mind froze; she felt a pair of terrifying eyes watching her from behind. 0

Since they both had to get off on this thirteenth floor, Ziya sensed that Qin Nannan was staring at her back while she felt something watching her as well. Slowly turning her head... 0

"I can leave here tomorrow; you can’t leave once you come... I can leave here tomorrow..." The voice was so eerie that it felt like it was whispering directly into her ear. 0

Ziya's heart sank; she trembled all over while Qin Nannan finally stood up after a long time in the elevator—his legs were already sore and numb. He leaned against the wall for a while before feeling slightly better. Neither of them dared to leave the elevator immediately. Looking down the long corridor, they saw the Cleaner Aunt’s figure drifting far down into the depths of the hallway. 0
