The elevator came to an eerie halt on the 14th floor, leaving the three occupants exchanging puzzled glances. After a moment of silence, Qin Nannan stepped forward and pressed the button repeatedly, the sound echoing in the confined space, but the elevator remained still. 0

"Who pressed the button for the 14th floor?" Liu asked, his voice trembling. His eyes darted around nervously, heightening the tension in the air. 0

Ziya felt a jolt of unease in her heart, but she maintained her composure as she shook her head at Liu. "No, I didn't press it." 0

Qin Nannan shrugged, indicating that she hadn’t touched the button either. "I only pressed it after the elevator stopped. You all saw that." 0

As time passed, Liu's face grew paler, his eyes wide with panic as he stared at the elevator doors blocking their way. 0

"Why are there no lights on the 14th floor? No one works here?" Qin Nannan whispered. They had seen from outside that the floor was shrouded in darkness. 0

"Just stop talking," Liu said helplessly, glancing at the still elevator and speaking in a hurried whisper. 0

One second… two seconds… three seconds… Suddenly, with a loud 'whoosh', the elevator doors swung open, and a gust of cold wind rushed in, causing Liu and Ziya to scream in unison. They shivered uncontrollably, especially Ziya, who was reminded of a nightmare that felt all too real in this moment. 0

As they stared at the open elevator doors, Qin Nannan burst into laughter. "Hahaha… look how scared you two are! It’s just wind; there's no need to freak out like this." She leaned forward to peer down the long, dark corridor, trying to see where it led… "Ah… ah…" Suddenly, Qin Nannan hugged herself, contorting her face as she crouched down and let out a wild scream. 0

"He… he must be possessed by a ghost… he…" Liu trembled as he pressed himself tightly against the elevator wall, whispering in fear. 0

Ziya shot a cold glare at Qin Nannan and said sternly, "Senior, who are you trying to scare with your antics? You guys really aren't good for anything. It's best not to joke around like this." The latter quickly regained her composure and lazily stood up. She had intended to frighten someone into her arms or perhaps initiate some artificial respiration or something similar. She hadn’t expected her act would be seen through so easily. 0

"Come on! You girls are tough! This isn't even scary; it's so boring," Qin Nannan muttered dejectedly. 0

Startled, Liu stood up, wiping the cold sweat from his brow as he glared at Qin Nannan. "You... what are you pretending for? What if a ghost really comes to see you?" 0

"Everyone relax, I'm an atheist. I’m not afraid of any ghosts or monsters. If you don’t have ghosts in your heart, you won’t encounter them. Unlike you women, who scream at every little sound," Qin Nannan waved her hand, talking to herself. 0

"Liu, this elevator often malfunctions; there must be another reason..." Ziya pressed the button again, but it remained unresponsive. She didn’t want to, nor did she dare to look towards the eerie corridor that seemed to stretch endlessly. A cold wind rushed into the cramped elevator space, sending chills down her spine. She fished her phone out of her pocket and checked it—there was no signal at all. 0

"N-no... nothing... it’s just a malfunction with the elevator," Liu stammered. Yet his eyes were glued to the elevator doors, as if he feared seeing something. 0

"Check your phones; is it just mine that’s acting up with no signal?" Ziya observed Liu's hesitant demeanor and felt increasingly uneasy. Could it be that this building was truly haunted, or was there another reason? 0

"We're stuck here; we might..." Qin Nannan held her phone up to check for signal as well but found none. She grumbled in frustration. Just as her words trailed off, the elevator jolted slightly, and the doors suddenly closed with a whoosh... As the elevator began to move gently, Ziya stretched her neck and instinctively leaned against the wall. She couldn’t bring herself to voice what she saw… a vague figure drifted in… standing right next to Qin Nannan. 0

The emergency lights in the elevator flickered incessantly. Liu glanced at the trembling Ziya in terror; she suddenly grabbed Qin Nannan and shut her eyes tightly. 0

Qin Nannan looked at these two frightened women and couldn’t help but smirk slightly, casting a glance at the older woman holding onto him. He cursed inwardly: Damn it, why do I have to protect those who shouldn’t be here while those who should are nowhere to be found… A chill swept across his neck, sending an involuntary shiver through him. 0

"What the hell is that?" He looked around; aside from the three of them, there was no one else in the elevator. Moreover, neither Liu nor Ziya was blowing air towards him—why did it feel so cold? 0

"Qin Nannan, don’t turn around..." Ziya crouched in a corner, her head lowered as her heart raced uncontrollably. She stole a glance at the vague figure behind Qin Nannan that was slowly creeping closer… Liu’s face turned pale as she heard Ziya mention something about a shadow; she clung to the elevator wall, too scared to move. Her legs felt like they were cramping up, and cold sweat dripped down her body. She silently cursed her editor for always putting her in such situations—why did they have to assign her to take care of interns? 0

"What?" Qin Nannan glanced at Ziya without understanding and hurried over to help her up. His fingers brushed against her trembling arm, and seeing how she kept looking behind him… he turned around. 0

"Wow!" Qin Nannan gasped sharply; behind him stood a 'person' with a decayed face crawling with maggots… Everything went dark before him; with two piercing screams echoing in the air, he collapsed with a loud thud onto the ground, unconscious. 0

When Qin Nannan opened his eyes again, a strong smell of antiseptic flooded his nostrils. Confused, he looked around, noticing a white curtain blocking the sounds from outside. "He hasn't woken up yet. Hmm, what? How could I dare... Alright! That's it then," Ziya said as she hung up her phone, turning to glance at Qin Nannan lying in the room, shaking her head with a sigh. 0

Lying on the bed, Qin Nannan heard footsteps outside and realized someone had arrived. He quickly closed his eyes. Ziya pulled aside the curtain and approached the bedside, surveying the observation room before finally resting her gaze on Qin Nannan's face, which was feigning sleep. Internally, she mused: Even someone as tough as this senior can’t withstand a scare. What secrets does the Daily News Building hold? Why did Liu speak so evasively? And who was that vague figure in the elevator? 0

At that moment, Qin Nannan peeked through his closed eyelids at Ziya standing by the bed. Her thoughtful expression was captivating; kiss me! Hurry and kiss me! he silently prayed. 0

The bed shook slightly, and a mischievous smile crept across Qin Nannan's lips as he felt a warm face drawing closer to him. Overjoyed, he eagerly leaned in. 0
