"Don't, I still want to stay in the Single Dormitory."
Ye Chenfeng stubbornly dragged his suitcase, insisting on going to the Single Dormitory. Unable to convince him, Su Bei glanced at Ding Li with concern and lowered her voice, saying, "You might not care, but someone died in that Single Dormitory—a female student who turned into an old lady overnight."
"I know about that; she brought it upon herself."
"You already know?" Qin Keqing exclaimed, exchanging a surprised look with Shen Binghan. "Did you see what she looked like?"
"I did."
"Well, since you want to go, we can't stop you. Just be careful, both of you."
Ye Chenfeng understood their worry for Ding Li and waved his hand dismissively. "It's fine, don't worry. With me around, she'll be okay."
Qin Keqing and the others agreed to meet Ye Chenfeng at the school gate, planning to go somewhere nice for a hearty meal before parting ways.
"Is the Single Dormitory really that scary?" Ding Li envied Ye Chenfeng's college life, having a few close roommates seemed nice. Watching them together reminded her of her days at Vocational University.
"There's nothing to be afraid of; you won't see anything."
"Oh." Ding Li replied and thought for a moment before asking, "Didn't you say they transferred schools? Why are they back here?"
"I don't know; maybe they couldn't bear to leave me! Besides, where else could they go? Unless they study abroad, this is the best school in Purple City. If they see or hear something, just don't overreact or spread rumors. People won't think they're crazy; they've learned their lesson and won't do it again!"
"I see. Can you tell me more about the Single Dormitory?"
Ye Chenfeng described the Single Dormitory as lacking the lively atmosphere of the Boys' Dormitory. To Ding Li, it felt cold and desolate at first glance. However, the building itself was better constructed than the Boys' Dormitory.
She found it strange that such a nice place had no one willing to live there.
"Because this place is haunted," Ye Chenfeng explained.
"Can you tell me more about it?"
"Of course, as long as you're not afraid."
Ding Li lifted his head, striding forward confidently before turning back to say, "Do I look scared to you?"
"Well, not really." Ye Chenfeng set his backpack on top of the suitcase, the wheels rolling across the ground as he took a deep breath and said, "Here we go."
Ding Li playfully tilted his head and crossed his arms, saying, "Let's begin."
"Actually, that ghost is a female student who had a crush on Ye Feng."
"What about Ye Feng and Chen Peiling?"
"Chen Peiling is the goddess Ye Feng truly likes, but this girl isn't. She never had any direct contact with Ye Feng; she only admired him from afar. With a touch of paranoia, she felt that Ye Feng had wronged her, and then she fell into a cursed cycle. When Ye Feng died, she faced corresponding punishment."
Saying this made Ye Chenfeng feel a weight lift off his shoulders.
This was Ye Feng's secret.
Ye Feng had entered the cycle of reincarnation; he probably didn't know that this secret had been revealed!
"What will happen to her now?"
"What can we do? We have to find Ghost Granny's original spirit and eliminate it to free the souls trapped in the curse."
"Let's wait and see at Zhanglin Village," Ding Li said playfully, leaning close to Ye Chenfeng and whispering, "Do we really have to make our relationship public, darling?"
"It has to be public. I want everyone to know that I, Ye Chenfeng, have said goodbye to being a virgin and become a real man with someone I love. Those beautiful girls who secretly admire me should back off instead of quietly cursing me."
"You just love to show off!" Ding Li laughed and ran away, stepping on the ground where the shadows of crushed branches danced under the sunlight, spreading her arms wide. "Ah... I am Ye Chenfeng's lover."
Ye Chenfeng gazed at Ding Li with eyes full of affection.
In the single apartment, there were no dormitory supervisors.
On one side of the path were the Single Dormitories.
Ye Chenfeng thought this must have been the teachers' original dormitory, later converted for student use; otherwise, they wouldn't have gone through so much trouble to build it so neatly, especially with the scratched-off writing on the doorframe.
The writing was in red, and from the parts that weren't scratched off, it pieced together to spell out "Teacher's Home."
As they entered the Single Dormitory, the sound of their suitcase became muffled and heavy. Ding Li hugged her arms and looked around; she felt cold.
"Which room do you live in?"
"214," Ye Chenfeng replied as they approached room 214. He took out his key and opened the door. Standing at the entrance, a cold wind rushed in, mixed with a musty smell that made Ding Li cover her mouth and frown in annoyance.
Once inside, Ding Li exclaimed, "Not bad! It's so spacious." She looked around like Liu Laolao entering Grand View Garden, her eyes wide with surprise. When she saw the bathroom, she gasped, "Wow, there's even a private bathroom?"
"That's why I say this is a teacher's benefit. With high-end apartments for teachers, this place was left vacant and became my dormitory."
"Well, this is nice," Ding Li said as she sat on the edge of the bed, her feet swinging above the floor. She looked up at the ceiling and suddenly felt a wave of anxiety wash over her; there was a large spider crawling up there. Just seeing its thin, spiky legs made her break out in a cold sweat.
Ye Chenfeng noticed the spider too. Seeing Ding Li's face turn pale with fear, he quickly grabbed a clothes pole and swatted the spider, which fell to the ground. He wrapped it in paper and tossed it into the trash bin.
Just as he threw away the dead spider, the door creaked open on its own.
A shadow floated in and sat down next to Ding Li.
Ding Li suddenly felt a chill run through her, and she sneezed—"Achoo!"
Ye Chenfeng was startled. He scanned the room and walked to the door, activating his Yin Eye.
Sure enough, he saw that damned crazy woman had come back again.
Her hair was disheveled, her shadow was ethereal, and beneath her blinking eyes was a pale face.
"If you know what's good for you, you should go elsewhere. This place is temporarily mine now; look, my girlfriend is here."
Then, the shadow next to Ding Li vanished.
Ding Li was puzzled. "Who are you talking to?"
"Nothing," Ye Chenfeng replied as he began to tidy up. He pulled out a folding chair covered in spider webs and said to Ding Li, "You sleep in the bed tonight, and I'll take the folding chair. We'll tough it out for a few days before heading to Zhanglin Village."
"Why? We can't be together at the village, but why can't we be together here in this Single Dormitory?"
"Silly girl, there's another person in this room."
"Ding Li" covered her mouth, feeling a bit guilty. "Is she here?"
"No, she's not. You know how dangerous it is to provoke someone with delusions. If we were together, she'd be very jealous, harbor hatred, and it could be detrimental to you."
"Alright then!"
The room was small and easy to tidy up. With "Ding Li"'s help, it didn't take long for the space to become clean and bright.
As "Ye Chenfeng" and "Ding Li" stepped out of the "Single Dormitory," they encountered a senior from a higher grade.
People in the "Single Dormitory" rarely initiated greetings, but this senior's eyes lit up when he saw "Ding Li." With a smile, he approached and greeted "Ye Chenfeng," saying, "Out?"
"Yeah."
"You haven't been around for so many days?"
"Not really, why?" "Ye Chenfeng" sensed he had something to say.
"You weren't here during the time in Room 214. There were cries coming from there, making us too scared to sleep."
"Really?"
"Yeah." The senior kept glancing at "Ding Li" with a knowing look.
"Ding Li" ignored him. Once he turned to leave, she quietly told "Ye Chenfeng," "That guy isn't trustworthy."
"Ye Chenfeng" noticed the senior's actions but chose not to respond to the provocation. Instead, he maintained a calm demeanor, dismissing his opponent's attempts to intimidate him.
"It's fine, he's bad, as long as you're not."
As he walked out of the dormitory, he encountered a mix of familiar and unfamiliar students along the way.
Few of them greeted Ye Chenfeng; in their eyes, there was a sense of awe, and they kept their distance.
"You have so few friends," Ding Li suddenly expressed sympathy for Ye Chenfeng, a genuine feeling from the heart.
"Too many friends aren't advisable; two is best, three isn't bad either."
"Then what am I?"
"Fool, you're my beloved wife."
"Mm." Ding Li wrapped her arm around Ye Chenfeng's waist, leaning sweetly against him.
At the school gate, Qin Keqing was growing impatient while Su Bei and Shen Binghan were discussing their resistance against their parents and the insistence on attending this school.
"Our two families are like the KGB; there's no room for negotiation. They treat us like pets, their private property, as if we have no thoughts or minds of our own, and we certainly can't have opinions or do what we like."
Su Bei agreed with Qin Keqing's statement, saying, "The problem still stems from that incident at Purple City Fourth Hospital. You and Shen Binghan need to clarify who leaked that information, which led to us being called in by the disciplinary director. We were confused and ended up honestly recounting what happened, almost getting Ye Chenfeng into trouble."
Hearing their discussion, Shen Binghan walked over and said, "It wasn't me who leaked it."
"That must be you; you like flirting with girls and are used to talking in your sleep," Qin Keqing asserted while pointing at Su Bei.
Su Bei scratched his head, unable to recall when he had talked in his sleep.
From a distance, Ye Chenfeng saw them arguing and called out, "Hey, I haven't even arrived yet, and you're already debating. What's so interesting?"
"Hey, it's not really an argument," Qin Keqing quickly explained. She then smiled at Ding Li.
Ding Li responded to the three of them with a smile.
Ye Chenfeng continued, "Seriously, you guys are being unfair. You almost got me expelled. In the days you were gone, the head teacher specifically called me to the office for a lecture. Luckily, I was quick-witted and said I didn't see anything or know what was going on." In truth, Ye Chenfeng had refused to cooperate with the head teacher's guidance during the lecture, leaving the teacher so furious that he nearly spat blood. After that, the matter was dropped.
"Did you really say that?" Shen Binghan, Su Bei, and Qin Keqing exclaimed in unison, surprised.
"Yeah! Should I admit to seeing what you saw or hearing what you heard?"
"Damn, so it was you who got us into trouble? By saying that, you're implying we're all lying. That's just crazy—it's like you're accusing us of having paranoia."
Ye Chenfeng laughed heartily and said, "You three are in trouble; I'm just looking out for myself. What else can I do? Should I go with you to get checked for insanity?"
"What a guy who prioritizes romance over friendship."
Finally, someone noticed Ding Li's discomfort.
Su Bei teased, "Looks like someone has already pushed the goddess away."
"Absolutely," Ye Chenfeng said with a proud smile.
