Chapter 469: Human Skin Puppet (Part Thirty-Two) 0

The bedroom was spacious, and the bed was ridiculously large. Now, it lay in disarray on the floor, surrounded by the remnants of a couple's intimate moments. Under the close watch of Qin Jian, I half-knelt and picked up a pair of fishnet stockings, then shut out everything else, immersing myself in a static environment that felt isolated from the world. 0

Time seemed to reverse—an overwhelming air of ambiguity enveloped me. I regretted my choice; why did I have to sense something like this? It was disastrous! In an instant, it was too late for regrets. The chaotic images blurred together, and I couldn't distinguish who was who. All I could hear were sultry whispers and exaggerated cries, accompanied by sounds that made it feel as if I were right there in the scene. I cursed under my breath! The sensations overwhelmed me, igniting a restless heart and wandering mind, yet I had no choice but to continue sensing the romantic history emanating from the fishnet stockings. 0

The room was a riot of colors, warm and inviting, filled with a faint fragrance. Still, the overlapping shadows danced together. Ugh! I had to skip this; I couldn't continue sensing any longer. I hurriedly took a deep breath. As the scene shifted, I gasped for air, and Qin Jian stared at me in shock before starting to interrogate me. 0

He glanced at the fishnet stockings in my hand and asked seriously, "What did you sense just now?" 0

"Nothing, nothing at all. Um, I think I'll step outside for some fresh air!" I tossed aside the fishnet stockings, ignoring Qin Jian's strange gaze as I walked through the cluttered room and out. 0

I knew Qin Jian was following closely behind me. Without looking back, I said, "Give me a cigarette." He handed one to me, and I took it and inhaled deeply. 0

"Why are your hands shaking?" Qin Jian asked. 0

I stammered, "It's a bit cold." 0

"Are you cold? You seem hot; you're sweating all over and your face is flushed. Are you coming down with something?" Qin Jian was curious about my condition. So close to me, he leaned in to get a better look. Feeling guilty, I turned my head away, crushed the cigarette in my hand, and increased the distance between us as I headed downstairs. 0

The sound of our footsteps echoed in the empty stairwell. With no time to spare for anything else, Qin Jian caught up with me and asked why I wasn't taking the elevator—was I really going to walk down? What had happened just now? 0

I ignored his questions and finally sighed with relief once we reached the bottom of the stairs. "I just wanted to take the stairs for a change; don't overthink it." 0

Qin Jian snapped back angrily, "Damn it! Don't think I don't know you; something definitely happened just now." 0

I stopped and gazed deeply at Gousi's former home before turning back to Qin Jian. "If a woman you deeply love were secretly involved with someone else behind your back, what would you do?" 0

"I would..." Qin Jian murmured but didn't finish his thought. Instead, he stared at me in shock and asked, "Is this happening with Gousi?" 0

"Maybe I sensed something wrong; it seems I've picked up on her being involved with someone other than Gousi." 0

"This is the clue. Why didn't you pay attention to my question earlier?" Qin Jian exclaimed, both surprised and delighted as he caught up. "Did you sense all this just now but felt uncomfortable, so you didn't want to stay?" 0

"Yeah." 0

Qin Jian nodded in understanding. "I would feel the same way." Then, recalling my earlier actions, he angrily added, "Damn it, what's wrong with you? Why were you acting so neurotic about coming out?" 0

"I feel sorry for Gousi. The last time he found me was because that woman was on the verge of death. She was actually entangled with an Evil Jade. If I hadn't intervened, she would have died for sure. Maybe Gousi wouldn't have gotten into trouble either." 0

"Alright, we're not robots. Or maybe Gousi himself has issues; you just don't know him well enough yet. It's understandable to feel regret for his death and anger at the unfair treatment he received, but right now, none of that matters. We need to find Yu quickly; I have a feeling that once we find her, everything will fall into place." 0

"Maybe you're right." Qin Jian sighed as he took out a cigarette pack and shook it a couple of times. He lit one for himself and one for me, and a cloud of smoke hung above our heads for a long time. I noticed his face was dark and his jaw clenched rhythmically—an indication that he was very angry. 0

I knew trouble was brewing for Qin Jian. 0

First of all, it's unlikely that anyone could just take Yu away after losing her husband. Although there was no direct connection between her and her husband's death, evidence showed that when Gousi had his incident, Yu wasn't with him; she was busy shopping like crazy at Moore. 0

So the person who took Yu could be a key figure, but definitely not an ordinary person. Connecting this with my earlier sensing made me feel uneasy. 0

After making a phone call, Qin Jian seemed to regret it. 0

But it was too late for regrets; help had arrived along with an order stating that someone else would take over here—now it was no longer our business. 0

With nothing left for us to do, we had to leave. As we stepped outside, we saw someone interrogating the security guard. In the end, the guard was taken away. We couldn't get involved in Yu's situation, especially since Qin Jian and I were already entangled in three bizarre death cases. 0

The unresolved cases were somewhat related to supernatural phenomena—what people often refer to as paranormal events—and Qin Jian had placed all his hopes on me. 0

We walked out in silence, each lost in our thoughts. I reflected on the images I had sensed earlier—the indistinct figure mingling with Yu's silhouette, hazy yet undeniably not Gousi. 0

Could it be Chen Pi? 0

What connection did Chen Pi have with Yu? Why couldn't I see that person's face clearly? 0

Qin Jian listened to my sighs, his brow furrowed in worry. Although he had little to complain about regarding me, he was under significant pressure himself. If our duo failed to solve these three mysterious death cases, we could very well be disbanded. 0

The result of disbandment would mean I would return to Ma Wu Funeral Home as a Mortician, while Qin Jian would go back to his regular duties as an ordinary police officer. 0

At three in the morning, Qin Jian dropped me off at my residence. As he left, he said solemnly, "I hope you can take a break and make some breakthroughs." 0

I fell asleep and dreamt of Mi. I felt exhausted and cold, so I held her close. She responded with her actions, filling me with strength and passion. Inevitably, I wanted to linger with her a bit longer. Eventually, I vaguely sensed her getting up and casting a gentle smile my way as she softly said, "Take care; everything can start anew." 0

Was this a sign? I kept my eyes closed and reached out to touch the space beside me, only to be startled awake by the emptiness. My fingers felt warmth; I looked up at the Roof, the window dark and devoid of light. That faint lingering fragrance seemed to envelop everything like a dream yet felt so real. 0

I slowly peeled back the covers that had been over me. In the gap of truth, I recalled last night's tender moments with longing. My heart raced; she had truly been there. What did her words about starting anew mean? Though still not fully awake, my mind couldn't help but ponder the strange events that had unfolded around me. 0
