Chapter 67: Fateful Path (Part 26)
Mi had become even more beautiful and charming with my nurturing.
"Brother Qi, you need to leave now, and take her back with you!"
"Who?"
"Sha Hong. She is lost in the abyss of memories, being chased by a group of ghosts. It was Qin Ye who saved her along the way and instructed that her lifespan is not yet over, so you must take her back."
My master came and went without a trace; it had been quite some time since I last saw him. However, my bond with him was shallow, and I didn't dare to hope for another meeting. Sighing to myself, I got up, dressed, and asked, "When will I be able to see you again?"
"Brother Qi, Boundary Sophora needs an heir. I need your love..." Mi gently caressed her abdomen. "He is moving."
In just a moment, she was pregnant, and I was truly astonished, unsure of how to react. Seeing my expression, she playfully smiled. "She is coming."
Then the door opened, revealing a woman hunched over, her head bowed in submission as she stood at the entrance.
Wasn't Sha Hong fine? How could her soul be here? With many questions swirling in my mind, Mi didn’t give me a chance to ask for explanations and urged me on. "Brother Qi, staying here for just a minute is equivalent to a whole time in the Underworld. You've been here for several minutes already; you need to hurry and leave!"
I didn't want to leave Mi; what kind of couple was this? We had just met and shared a moment of intimacy, yet now she wanted to send me away. Seeing my reluctance made Mi almost cry. She pushed me toward the exit while urging Sha Hong to follow. A white silk scarf bound our hands together, and then she said, "Boundary Sophora is under my jurisdiction. The residents here are all souls who have not yet reached their reincarnation time and are content to stay. But wherever there are souls, there are also Evil Spirits. You have no authority here and cannot exert any energy; you do not belong here. You must leave quickly; otherwise, the entire Boundary Huai Street will descend into chaos because of your presence."
Mi pushed Sha Hong and me toward the door. I took a deep look at Boundary Sophora, still confused about its purpose when suddenly I felt a shiver run through me as someone exclaimed, "Hey! There's movement over there; look at that pillar!"
I struggled to sit up, only to feel a splitting headache. Then I noticed a pair of astonished eyes and a flushed face staring at me before they hurriedly ran away. Why were they running? I'm not a monster!
I sighed and scanned the room. This was the Special Ward. Looking back at myself in the hospital bed, I couldn't help but widen my eyes and shout, "Who took off my pants?" Then, feeling anxious, I grabbed the blanket and covered myself tightly.
Fortunately, there was no one outside the ward. I let out a quiet breath and began frantically searching for my pants. I couldn't find them, but I did locate a striped hospital gown. I shakily put it on just as the door swung open.
"You’re awake?" The person who entered was Qin Jian, his expression a mix of surprise and joy as he looked at me in disbelief.
"Never seen a handsome guy before? What are you staring at?"
"You... wait a minute. Earlier today, two nurses were staring at Roof without any reaction, and then Rongrong followed the doctor's orders and had them take off your pants to check... Did you wake up because of that?" Hearing Qin Jian say this made me recall that moment of embarrassment and the nurses rushing out of the room. I frowned and said, "Your Rongrong really knows how to torment people."
Qin Jian smirked and pushed me playfully. "What? You’re not thinking too much about it, are you? It’s just part of their job; don’t take it seriously..." Seeing his rare quirky expression, I pretended to lose my balance and fell back onto the bed. This action truly startled him, and he quickly reached out to steady me. "You look radiant; it’s like you’ve experienced something good. Why do you still look so weak?"
Well, could I have just met my end? We had just shared a beautiful night together! No, I needed to see how Sha Hong was doing. Noticing my determination to leave, Qin Jian said, "Sha Hong is fine; she woke up just before you did. Sigh, you really know how to cause trouble. You called me and Rongrong to see Sha Hong, but when we got there, she was unresponsive. It scared us so much that we turned around to find you but kept getting lost. By the time we found you, it looked like you were about to kick the bucket! What I don’t understand is how you ended up with injuries on your shoulder and chest all by yourself. Luckily, you used some ash to treat them with anti-inflammatory medicine; they’ve scabbed over now. Does it still hurt?"
"It doesn’t hurt anymore. How's Li Luwen?" I asked about Li Luwen while my mind wandered to two other matters: one being that Mi saw many Ghost Children chasing Sha Hong; it seemed her soul wasn’t just affected by Li Luwen's deteriorating spirit but that something else was happening simultaneously. It was like someone suffering from a severe illness where other latent symptoms flare up together—a terrifying situation known as complications—indicating that Sha Hong had accumulated some dreadful karma for other reasons.
The other matter was how Chi Xinrong could possibly get lost in this hospital; even Qin Jian shouldn’t be able to get lost! Unless something was preventing them from finding me quickly, creating confusion to buy time.
Qin Jian's mention of Li Luwen interrupted my thoughts as he continued, "Li Luwen has woken up; she looked bewildered and didn’t respond to anything anyone asked her. Her mother was beside herself with worry, crying and hoping you'd go see her."
I nodded in agreement. "Okay, hurry and find my clothes; once I'm dressed, I'll go see her. There's something else that's puzzling me."
Qin Jian asked, "What's going on?"
I replied while walking, "Well, Sha Hong seems to be hiding something from everyone." Sha Hong, a woman in her fifties, was a gynecologist with decades of experience. She had delivered countless babies throughout her career.
I wondered how it was possible for Sha Hong, being a gynecologist and having delivered so many children, to be involved with the Ghost Child. Qin Jian said, "What could she possibly be hiding from us?"
"I don't know. Let's go check on Li Luwen."
Li Luwen lay on the hospital bed, her eyes vacant as she stared blankly at the patterns on the blanket. As Qin Jian and I approached Li Luwen's room, we met up with Chi Xinrong and Zhang Xian. Zhang Xian's attitude towards me had taken a complete turn; several times I felt her sneaking glances at me. Each time I turned around, she pretended to be playing with her phone, but it seemed a bit unnatural, and her face was slightly flushed.
I thought to myself, "Please don’t fall for me; those who do end up unlucky." Then our group entered the hospital room and saw Li Luwen in a dazed state. The soul-binding talisman on her had long been removed, so logically she shouldn't be in this condition unless she was unwilling to return to reality and was hiding away in an unknown place.
