Chapter 5: Fateful Path (Part Twelve)
Old Man Mo glanced at the closed bedroom door and muttered to himself, "Feng is becoming increasingly rude, sleeping while so many friends are here... sigh!"
Seeing Old Man Mo leave, I let out a sigh of relief with Zhang Xian. I then formed a hand seal and recited the Six-Character Mantra: "Om, Ma, Ni, Padme, Hum!" The Six-Character Mantra was invoked to summon the spirits and seal the Vajra Mantra. Zhang Xian watched me intently as beads of sweat formed on my forehead. With the seal in place, I cast the Vajra sealing spell, and a beam of light flashed through the crack of the door like plastic slipping through. I had successfully sealed the Gate of Hell. I composed myself and said to Zhang Xian, "It's safe to open now."
After opening the door, Chi Xinrong and Qin Jian were astonished inside the room. "What happened? No matter what we did just now, we couldn't open the door..."
"Everything's fine. How's Mo Feng?"
"She's okay, look..." I noticed that Mo Feng's complexion remained unchanged, and on the bedside was not just any ordinary Evil-Repelling Object but Qin Jian's personal Evil-Repelling Dagger. I had to admit that Qin Jian was quite clever; if he hadn't placed the Evil-Repelling Dagger here, we might not have been able to meet at all.
"Well, I tried calling you but couldn't get through," Qin Jian said as he hurriedly pulled out his phone upon hearing my words. "Don't bother checking; it won't connect right now." He was smart enough to understand what I meant without needing further explanation.
As Zhang Xian entered the room, she and Chi Xinrong exchanged remarks about how they couldn't open the door earlier, then began whispering about something. I figured Zhang Xian must have told her about my mention of the Gate of Hell, so I didn't pay much attention until someone handed me a diary.
Qin Jian also looked over.
The diary handed to me by Chi Xinrong clearly belonged to Mo Feng. It was evident that Zhang Xian's earlier conversation with her involved not only the Gate of Hell but also this diary.
As a man, I really shouldn't be reading a girl's diary. However, unable to resist Chi Xinrong's urging and hints, I reluctantly opened it. At first glance, the first page contained normal entries about feelings and experiences. The second page was similar.
I didn't want to linger too long and flipped to the last pages until I stopped at one filled with densely packed names.
Zhang Youjian... Zhang Youjian... This entire page was filled with that name.
I looked at Zhang Xian; she shrugged her shoulders in confusion as well.
"Don't be surprised; why don't you explain their relationship in detail?"
Zhang Xian strained to recall while Qin Jian pointed at the still-sleeping Mo Feng and asked, "Should we summon her spirit?"
"Not for now," I waved my hand, focusing my attention on Zhang Xian.
"Actually, Zhang Youjian and Liu Hui do have an unclear relationship. Someone once witnessed them in the lounge doing... that. And Sun Yue has a complicated relationship with Liu Hui as well. But I really didn't expect Feng to like that scum, Zhang Youjian."
I caught a glimpse of the resentment in Zhang Xian's eyes towards Zhang Youjian. I rubbed my nose and casually asked, "What does Sun Yue do?"
"She's a Pharmacist. Liu Hui is in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Feng is an Intern, Liu Hui's apprentice."
"This is a mess," I closed my eyes, resting my left arm on my hand while pinching the bridge of my nose with my right hand.
"It seems this isn't some ghostly harm but rather a human conspiracy. I wonder if you all have offended someone recently, which could have triggered this retaliation?" Chi Xinrong's words were partly true; perhaps someone was indeed manipulating others' lives from the shadows. However, her statement lacked evidence and logic.
Just then, Mo Feng, who had been in a coma, suddenly sat up with vacant eyes, clawing at the air as if in a frenzy, shouting, "Don't look for me! Don't look for me!"
I quickly placed a Calming Talisman on Mo Feng's forehead. She immediately fell silent, her eyes fixed as she toppled backward. I caught her just in time to prevent a hard fall.
"Ma Qi, can you handle this or not? If not, take her to the hospital for an IV!"
I shot a glance at Chi Xinrong and then looked at Mo Feng calmly. "She's not sick; her spirit is scattered. If you think an IV will help her, then you decide how to handle this." I successfully passed the responsibility of Mo Feng onto Chi Xinrong—not because I didn't care but because I felt she was too proud and looked down on me, Ma Qi. Perhaps my words were a bit harsh.
Zhang Xian was tucking in the blanket. Qin Jian knew Chi Xinrong's words were sharp; he smiled apologetically. "Rongrong didn't mean any harm; do you want to proceed with that?"
"Not for now." I understood Qin Jian's intention; he wanted me to delve into Mo Feng's consciousness to find the root of her condition. Although it was a shortcut, it was risky for both her and me to emerge unscathed. First of all, I hadn't identified who was behind this or their motives. Could it be that they belonged to the same Evil Sorcerer family as the Mo family? Moreover, given Mo Feng's current state, it wasn't suitable for me to enter her consciousness. If we directed our energy correctly, it would be fine; if not, recklessly entering her subconscious could only push her closer to death.
Of course, looking at the current situation, there were clues. At least everyone present knew about Sun Yue and others' hidden secrets. They were involved in some unsavory connections that led to endless entanglements of forbidden love.
To ensure no more deaths occurred moving forward, I asked Zhang Xian to show me her phone.
Zhang Xian handed me her phone but couldn't find the photo she had sent me yesterday. Confused, I handed it back to her. "Did you delete the photo?"
"No! Initially sensing something was off, I tried hard to delete it but found it strangely impossible to remove. Afterward, since everything needed to be saved, there was no reason for me to delete it... so I didn’t." She swiped through her phone and then widened her eyes in shock. "It's gone! Both the photo and video are missing!"
"Is it really gone?" Not only was I surprised, but Qin Jian and Chi Xinrong were also taken aback. The latter quickly stepped forward and snatched the phone from Zhang Xian's hand, insisting on seeing it for herself to believe that everything was truly gone.
"It's gone," Chi Xinrong said with a tone of regret, her complex gaze shifting between me and Qin Jian before finally settling on Zhang Xian's face, looking quite serious. "Did you accidentally delete it?"
"Why don't you believe me?" Zhang Xian's eyes misted over as she pouted, looking utterly wronged. "I'm next; I want this resolved quickly too. Please don't doubt me."
"How do you know you're next?"
Seeing my sharp gaze, tears welled up in Zhang Xian's eyes as she lowered her head. "I saw the photo too. It was a picture of Mo Feng turning around and smiling at me, and that smile was as eerie as it gets. That's why I got so scared that I thought about deleting it. But even after I deleted it, the second photo was still there. I'm scared too... Boohoo..."
As Zhang Xian cried like a little girl, someone grew displeased. They hugged her and shot me a glare. "Don't cry; I believe you."
"Chi Xinrong, there's something I've always wanted to ask you... If you don't mind, can I ask now?"
