Chapter 54: The Wei Lou Incident 0

"Don't be ridiculous, I don't know." Perhaps it was just Zhu Gang's unrequited feelings, but it didn't matter; Mi was mine, Ma Qi's. I couldn't care less about anything else. Just now, she was my wife, and I had already declared my claim—she was my woman. I didn't care if you were old classmates or whatever; don't get any funny ideas. 0

Zhu Gang was only slightly surprised when he heard about my relationship with Mi, but he didn't show any further reaction. It seemed I was overthinking; they were nothing to each other. 0

There was indeed something strange about Zhu Gui's corpse. His face had been gnawed at by mysterious ants, leaving it riddled with holes, but now it looked as if he were grinning. The expression left on a deceased person's face is defined by the moment of death. For those who die from illness, they experience a final struggle between life and death in the last moments, enduring excruciating pain that leaves a haunting expression of suffering, fear, and despair. 0

I covered Zhu Gui's face with yellow paper and placed a coin in his mouth, known as "mouth money." The dead shouldn't be sent off bare. Zhu Gang's mother had arranged everything properly; I didn't have to worry about that. Therefore, I remembered Zhu Gui's expression on his face—it definitely did not look like a smile. 0

"When did you see him like this?" I was keeping vigil when I noticed the paper covering his face had disappeared. I leaned in to take a closer look and was startled to see him smiling, so I hurriedly called you. 0

"I understand now. Don't worry; you all just need to hold on a bit longer tonight. The funeral will be tomorrow." 0

"That's good to hear." The others keeping vigil sighed in relief, holding their paper charms, waiting for their turn to play cards. I took Mi and left; Zhu Gang saw us off at the door, his eyes lingering on Mi. 0

When we returned to Ma Wu Funeral Home, Chi Xinrong called about the child. However, the situation wasn't good—the child remained in a coma and couldn't even receive an IV drip. 0

Mi and I didn't have time to enter the house before rushing straight to the hospital. Upon arriving at the hospital entrance, I saw a child standing there, resting his chin on his hands and gazing longingly down the road. Since I was eager to see Wei Lou, I didn't stop and headed straight for the emergency room. 0

This hospital felt strangely familiar; I couldn't remember how many times I'd been here. This rhythm couldn't continue; next time it should be at a cemetery instead. I complained inwardly as I spotted Chi Xinrong and Qin Jian looking frantic, sighing heavily. I walked over and asked, "How's it going?" 0

"Not too well; the doctor is still in emergency." 0

"Rongrong, can I take a look?" Just as I was talking to Chi Xinrong, the doctor came out of the room. Facing Chi Xinrong, the doctor shook his head after removing his mask—there was no hope. 0

It couldn't be possible; if I failed to fulfill Wei Chenggang's request, he would leave this world with regrets and could very likely evolve into an Evil Spirit seeking revenge on those responsible for this tragedy—namely the child's mother—leading to uncontrollable chaos. 0

The emergency room door was open; while the doctor spoke with Chi Xinrong, I seized the opportunity to slip inside. On a moving stretcher lay a child covered by a white sheet. I yanked off the sheet and saw the child's face. 0

This sight stunned me momentarily as I suddenly recalled seeing that child at the entrance—this couldn't end well. In a flash, I dashed out towards Chi Xinrong: "Watch over the child; don't let anyone touch him! I'll be right back." 0

The child was supposed to be sent to the mortuary after the failed rescue, but with my instructions and Chi Xinrong's personal care, no one dared to touch the child. 0

I went to the hospital entrance, accompanied by Mi. 0

After the coffin incident, I had suppressed her Medium Ability, so she could only see what an ordinary person would see; only I could see the child. We rushed to the entrance, but the child was nowhere to be found amidst the bustling crowd. 0

"What are you looking for, Brother Qi?" Mi asked. 0

"I'm looking for the child. Come with me." 0

"Okay." 0

We dashed out of the hospital, scanning our surroundings as we went. The unfamiliar city under the night sky wasn't as glamorous as it appeared on the surface, yet it was still vibrant and lively. Cars, pedestrians, elderly people, children, and women clinging to men's arms like fairies filled the streets, but there was no sign of that child. Suddenly, a sneaky shadow appeared not far away, and I followed its line of sight. 0

Outside a glass window, a child in a hospital gown was crouched down. Inside, a family of three was happily sharing a meal at a table full of delicious dishes, while the child outside stared at them with wide eyes. I thought he wasn't just longing for that feast; he envied their ability to share a late-night snack together. 0

"Wei Lou." 0

The child turned to look at me, his face pale and his lips white. This was his Deathly Aura depleting; his warmth was fading. If he didn't return to his body soon, he would never make it back. 0

"Who are you?" he asked. 0

"I'm a good friend of your dad. I came to see you, but you weren't here, so I came looking for you." 0

"Did my dad come?" 0

"Your dad can't come right now; he's very busy working overtime." 0

"You're lying! My dad is dead! I saw a man in black take him away. I ran after them, but they disappeared." Wei Lou regarded me with suspicion. This wouldn't do; I had to find a way to restore Mi's Medium Ability. 0

I glanced at Mi, signaling her to close her eyes. I covered her eyes with my hand and silently recited the incantation: I activated her Medium Ability. Mi saw Wei Lou and froze for a moment, surprised. "Sister, you're amazing! Playing hide and seek, and suddenly appearing out of nowhere." 0

Mi smiled brightly. "Lou, there's even more impressive stuff you haven't seen yet." 0

"What is it?" 0

With her maternal warmth and charm, Mi clearly provided Wei Lou with a sense of security and complete trust. Wei Lou couldn't help but move closer to Mi, leaving the display case. 0

"Run! Sister is a running expert." 0

Wei Lou shook her head and laughed. "Sister, you can't beat me; I'm the best." 0

"What? You're amazing? Alright then, how about we play a game?" 0

"What game?" 0

"Let's see who can run back to the hospital first. The winner gets treated to something delicious here." 0

Being a child, Wei Lou's interest piqued at the mention of food, and she broke into a smile. "Sister, you can't outrun me! I'm the running champion at school." 0

"Then run!" 0

"Okay, you two run, and I'll be the judge." 0

"Alright." 0

Wei Lou nodded and dashed off toward the hospital. I gave Mi a thumbs-up in approval. "Girl, you're really something." Mi smiled but didn't respond as she chased after Wei Lou. 0

In the emergency room, Qin Jian and several others were anxiously pacing like they were on fire. 0

Wei Lou rushed in, bursting into the emergency room, and I was the second to follow. 0

Wei Lou stood inside, seeing his own body lying on the bed, and he stumbled back in fright, wanting to run away. 0

I took out the Soul Absorbing Paper and recited an incantation, pointing my hand: "Absorb!" Wei Lou's soul obediently entered the Soul Absorbing Paper. I then held the Soul Absorbing Paper and chanted the Soul Retrieval Spell, pressing it against Wei Lou's Yintang. A flash of light, visible only to me and Mi, shot into his physical Yintang. The soul retrieval was successful; Wei Lou's finger twitched, and his eyelids slowly opened. 0

"Alright, you can come in and take a look." 0

Hearing my call, everyone outside rushed in. Wei Lou opened his eyes and was surprised to see our astonished faces: "I had a dream where you and my sister were calling me to run." 0

"Hahaha..." 0

The doctor and nurses arrived upon hearing the news. Seeing that Wei Lou looked a bit weak but was indeed awake, they were incredibly surprised, exclaiming, "A medical miracle! It's simply miraculous." 0

While it was good that Wei Lou woke up, there was one very concerning issue. 0
