Chapter 156: Dimensional Space (Part Four) 0

In a certain area of the Underworld, unknown to the Ghostly Enforcer and not governed by its rules, lies a place called Soul City. Here, souls come from all directions, unlike the lonely spirits of the mortal realm. 0

The distinction of these souls is that they are not bound by any regulations; they are a group that harbors intense hatred for reincarnated souls, having no chance for rebirth. They wander freely, their essence scattered, losing the time needed for reincarnation. 0

These souls mostly consist of those who have committed numerous wrongdoings in life and refuse to go to the Underworld to face punishment. They risk being torn apart by Evil Dog Ridge to reach this desolate corner of the Underworld. 0

Souls that have no opportunity to be reborn still cling to the hope of encountering miracles, seizing every chance to return to the mortal realm, transforming once again into Evil Souls to continue their misdeeds. 0

Fat had just been chased by these souls and, terrified, sought refuge in a dilapidated house. Unfortunately, he was pinned down by me as I fell from above. After finally getting up and walking out with me, we encountered another wave of souls pursuing us. 0

“Run…” In an instant, we took flight. The souls on the ground chased us while those floating in mid-air pursued us like they had spotted treasure. 0

After running for a while, Fat and I were exhausted and had no choice but to stop. He pulled out a lighter and flicked it on; the weak flame flickered as his eyes widened in terror. 0

“Cover your mouth,” I reminded him, quickly doing the same. 0

Fat covered his mouth and looked up at the swirling dark souls above. “Brother Qi, so this is what souls are like.” He attempted to use the weak flame to burn the approaching souls, but as they drew near, the flame extinguished, and a chilling cold enveloped us. 0

Fat shivered, dropping the lighter as he braced himself against the ground, terrified and leaning back against the wall. 0

I instinctively positioned myself in front of Fat, grabbing his discarded lighter despite the onslaught of souls. Up close, I could see their true form. 0

These souls were not solid spirits; they resembled tattered rags and bore some resemblance to those depicted in Harry Potter. The souls in Harry Potter lacked faces, while the ones before us had terrifyingly twisted and contorted visages. 0

Rather than faces, they resembled bare skulls devoid of muscle tissue. 0

Fat was too heavy to run; with the monstrous presence of the souls closing in on us, I was also exhausted. I watched helplessly as wisps of breath were drawn from Fat's open mouth by the souls surrounding me. 0

A wave of dizziness washed over me; my vision blurred as if I saw rice smiling at me, and I smiled back. 0

As my breath was siphoned away and a chill enveloped me, I reached out desperately for Fat. His face turned ashen with helplessness and despair as he stared at me. 0

Suddenly, a blinding light flashed before my eyes. Qin Ye appeared with his usual commanding presence. Shaking his head with a sigh, he said, “Qi, you cannot give up like this. Mi and Chi Xinrong are waiting for you to save them, along with your grandfather's last wishes.” 0

I opened my mouth, wanting to shout but unable to. He leaned in and whispered a few words to me. 0

Suddenly, I opened my eyes. Qin Ye was gone, but my mind was crystal clear, as if I had just woken from a nightmare. I began to chant: "Chita, Ajiro, Mili Zhu, Banli Daloy, Ningjieli." 0

With a thud! The Souls around us vanished into thin air. At the same time, a slanted beam of light appeared about a meter away from us. The plump figure opened his eyes and forced a smile. "Brother Qi, what were you just chanting?" 0

"An Exorcism spell." 0

I didn’t tell him that Qin Ye had taught me; instead, I helped him up, and we limped toward the source of the light. As we stepped into the beam, warmth enveloped us. Just then, I saw Qin Ye waving at me from a distance before he quickly disappeared. 0

Was Qin Ye a Soul? 0

No, I couldn’t believe it. Right now, it felt like we had entered a specific hypnotic aura. After stepping into the light beam, our eyelids grew heavy, and we felt drowsy until we knew nothing at all. 0

When I regained consciousness again, I found myself still in darkness. 0

There was no light; my phone had vanished amidst the chaos. Yet in this darkness, I sensed another presence that felt eerily familiar—there was indeed a coffin in this room. 0

I almost forgot about the object in my hand. 0

A lighter! A plump lighter featuring an unclothed woman striking an overly provocative pose. 0

There was no time to examine the woman on the lighter; I flicked it open and ignited it. The faint flame flickered to life and illuminated the surroundings. Indeed, there were coffins here—two of them. 0

Just coffins; nothing else. No spirit tablets, no flower wreaths, no Paper Figurines. 0

Had these coffins been abandoned? My curiosity piqued; after all, my job revolved around the dead. Without hesitation, I approached the coffins and cautiously lifted one of the Coffin Lids. The moment I did, the lighter suddenly became hot in my hand, nearly slipping from my grasp. 0

The coffin wasn’t nailed shut; one hand could easily push open the Coffin Lid. It was made of a lightweight material that paled in comparison to the coffins at Ma Wu Funeral Home. Such flimsy coffins were typically used for the deceased from impoverished families or perhaps they were empty and of no use. 0

To my surprise, what I thought was an empty coffin revealed its contents under the moving light of the lighter—I gasped aloud: "Rice." There was indeed rice inside the coffin. I shook the lighter and noticed that there were lights in the room; hurriedly, I reached out to press the switch. 0

With a click, the room brightened instantly. 0

Inside the coffin lay Rice Noodles—pale and soaked through. When I called out to her, there was no response. Panic surged within me as I quickly reached out to check for her breath. Feeling her steady breaths brought relief to my heart as I hurriedly lifted her out of the coffin. 0

Mi weakly opened her eyes and, seeing me, brightened up slightly. She whispered, "Brother Qi, how did you find me?" 0

"It's a long story. Did you see Fat Yi?" It felt strange to ask this since Fat Yi had entered the portal with me, and Mi probably didn't know that. As I spoke, Mi leaned over to look at a coffin beside her. 0

I turned my gaze to the coffin as well and slowly walked over. Mi's eyes followed me closely. When I reached the coffin and pushed the lid open, I found Fat Yi lying inside, his face covered in water stains, looking as if he were just asleep. 0

"Fat," I said as I reached out to check his breathing. He seemed perfectly fine. However, there was a faint smell of decay in the coffin, very subtle, as if a corpse had been laid there not long ago. What puzzled me was that Mi's coffin did not have this odor; instead, it carried a faint familiar fragrance. 0

Just as I was reaching down to check on Fat Yi's breathing, he suddenly opened his eyes wide, startling me. "Brother Qi, where's Mi?" 0

I helped Fat Yi sit up and pointed towards Mi. "She's over there." 0

The smell coming from Fat Yi made Mi uncomfortable, but she held back her feelings and didn't say anything. 0
