Chapter 085: Supernatural Growth (Part Eleven)
Han Mi shook her head in refusal, insisting on hopping forward alongside me. She was shy, and I thought women could be so particular; in such a desolate place, what was there to fuss about? Moreover, with her stubborn insistence, it wasn't long before she could no longer keep up.
In the end, she had no choice but to obediently climb onto my back. I lifted her with both hands under her thighs, feeling the warmth and softness pressed against my back. It was an incredibly comfortable and wonderful sensation. In that moment, my world was dancing; I felt immensely joyful, and all the pain in my body seemed to vanish.
I couldn't see Han Mi's expression, but I sensed she was still shy, unsure of where to place her hands.
"Wrap your arms around my neck."
"Oh." Han Mi responded, awkwardly extending her arms to encircle my neck.
"Is that better?"
"Mm."
"Great! We're heading to the cave now. Don't worry; Brother Qi will protect you tonight."
"Oh."
"What's wrong? You're being so quiet; don't you want to talk more?"
"I'm listening."
"What are you listening for?" The mountain path was difficult to navigate; what seemed like a short distance was proving to be quite challenging. Plus, I was afraid of losing my balance and dropping Han Mi, so I walked slowly, as if treading on thin ice.
"Brother Qi, listen..." Mi tapped my shoulder lightly, signaling me to stay still and pay attention.
I stopped, listening intently. In this desolate wilderness, apart from the sound of the wind and the chirping of insects, there was a faintly familiar sound of Funeral Music. In such an uninhabited place, how could there be Funeral Music? Was I mistaken? Or was it just an illusion?
I took a few more steps, and as I approached the cave, I gently set Mi down. After a brief rest, I reminded her to call home to report our safety. She picked up her phone and shook it with a grimace, saying, "No signal." I squatted down to take a closer look; indeed, her phone displayed a dead zone with no signal.
I took out my own phone and examined it seriously while she watched. Mi's eyes shone brightly in the dim light, her expression so focused. In the end, we both shook our heads in disappointment; this was a dead zone with no signal, and we couldn't contact our families.
Then she seemed to notice something again, listening intently, tilting her head. Suddenly, she pointed and said, "Brother Qi's voice is coming from that direction."
"We should still go into the cave to rest. There's no one around here; there can't possibly be any sound. We must have misheard," I replied as I settled Mi down and carefully inspected the cave entrance.
The entrance was small and overgrown with various plants, covered with a thin layer of white spiderwebs. Strangely enough, the entrance was clean, and the ground was smooth without any wild plants growing—there wasn't even a single blade of grass.
This caught my attention, and I decided to go in for a closer look.
I asked Mi to wait outside for a moment while I entered the cave alone. Inside was dark and damp; the stone walls were covered in moss and Shi Er, emitting an odor that didn't quite smell like mildew. As I ventured deeper inside, I found several irregular passageways branching off in different directions.
Yet the bottom of the cave remained smooth; those sharp stones seemed to have their edges worn down by something, standing upright without any risk of tripping. Continuing forward, I faintly heard the sound of flowing water and then witnessed a strange sight—a curtain of dripping water appeared before me.
Passing through the water droplet passageway, I entered a relatively spacious area where a pool about ten feet wide lay before me. It had an irregular shape, with dark brown water that seemed bottomless. Occasionally, bubbles would rise to the surface with a soft popping sound that echoed in the space.
This was it.
Here there was water and space to rest. Plus, since girls tend to prefer cleanliness, Mi would surely be happy to see this pool.
My skin was still peeling off; I feared that my appearance tonight would frighten Mi. It seemed I could only temporarily settle her by the pool while I stayed outside the cave. This way, if I became terrifyingly monstrous, she wouldn't be scared by me.
Determined and enduring the excruciating pain, I stepped out of the cave.
My dear Han Mi seemed to be holding her breath, her eyes wide with concern as she stared at me at the cave entrance.
“Brother Qi, is everything alright in there?”
“It’s fine. I found a good place; I’ll take you there now.”
Honestly, I felt quite miserable. To go through such an ordeal myself while dragging Han Mi into it was unbearable!
With my support, Han Mi stood up, bouncing around in a rather comical manner, unable to suppress her giggles. I took the opportunity to lift her into my arms. She hesitated for a moment before wrapping her arms around my neck and whispering, “Brother Qi, what are we going to do tonight?”
“What are you worried about?” Holding her like this allowed me to see her expression up close—the rise and fall of her chest, her cheeks flushed with color, those petal-like lips that truly captivated me. My heart raced, and I desperately wanted to kiss her. A sudden sharp pain in my body jolted me back to reality, clearing my mind instantly and quelling the urge to kiss her as I carried her deeper inside.
We passed through a passageway formed by dripping water and entered a spacious pool area. Han Mi was overjoyed, nearly jumping for joy.
Seeing her happy brought joy to my heart as well.
This time we had come out with nothing but the clothes on our backs—my outfit and Han Mi's dress were both filthy and caked with mud, with several tears and holes.
The cave was cold and damp, and I worried that Han Mi might not be able to handle it. I quickly took off my shirt and draped it over her shoulders. “You’re cold; this can help keep you warm and can also be used to dry off.”
“Brother Qi, do you want to leave me behind?”
“Don’t worry; I’ll be right outside. If anything happens, just call for me.”
"Oh." I was originally thinking that being so close to her, if I lost control and did something to hurt her, it would be a grave mistake. So I planned to keep my distance, waiting at the entrance until the second person arrived, then take her away to find a safe place where we could settle down, waiting for my skin to completely shed and assessing whether I could return.
But now, having brought her into this place, I felt uneasy. It didn't seem reliable, and I wanted to stay close to the water drop passage just a stone's throw away.
Han Mi watched me intently as I stepped outside. I didn't look back at her; I knew what she was about to do—she would wet my clothes in the pool and wipe off the mud from her body. I could imagine what lay beneath that tattered dress.
However, thinking about it made me feel uncomfortable; my blood was boiling. Restless Heart and Wandering Mind took over, and I cursed myself: "Damn it, I'm worse than a beast." Forcing myself to calm down, I leaned against the stone wall with my arms crossed and closed my eyes to collect my thoughts.
In the quiet atmosphere, the sound of dripping water filled my ears. Besides the drips, there was also the splashing sound of water—I knew it was Mi soaking my clothes. The garment she was using was my undershirt that I had just taken off.
Now my undershirt was in close contact with her body, as if my own hands were gently caressing her inch by inch—no, I couldn't think about that anymore. If I continued down this path, I'd be unable to resist rushing in. I struggled to calm my chaotic thoughts, blocking out all distractions in my mind. Sitting cross-legged, I took deep breaths and recited the Calmness Mantra until my mindset gradually settled into a state of tranquility.
Just as I found some peace within myself, suddenly a piercing scream echoed from inside.
