Li Xue woke up at eleven-thirty. She had gone to bed late the night before and overslept today.
She quickly tidied herself up and took out a new little black dress from her wardrobe. Li Xue was beautiful, with fair skin and long legs, making her well-suited for wearing dresses. Most of the original owner's clothes were outdated professional suits in dull colors, giving off a sense of age.
Feeling a bit disdainful, she still chose an outfit similar to what she used to wear to avoid raising suspicion. After applying light makeup, she stood in front of the mirror and felt satisfied. Her appearance was ninety percent similar to the original owner’s; unless it was someone particularly close, no one would notice the difference. The original owner was pretty but disliked dressing up, often going to work without any makeup.
Li Xue was different; in her previous life, she was a top-tier heiress who valued her appearance and would never let herself look haggard.
Carrying her bag, she left the apartment building and immediately spotted Liu Wen's car. Liu Wen stood by the car door, dressed in a white shirt and black trousers, looking handsome and tall. His features were strong, with deep-set eyes and a nose that sported silver-rimmed glasses, giving him an air of sophistication.
When he saw Li Xue come down, his eyes lit up, and he smiled warmly as he opened the passenger door. "Li Xue, get in," he said.
Li Xue nodded and bent down to sit inside. Liu Wen stood at the door for a moment, wiping sweat from his forehead before sliding into the driver's seat.
"Sorry to keep you waiting," Li Xue said with a slight smile.
"It's fine," Liu Wen replied, putting on his sunglasses and starting the engine. "Girls take a bit longer to get ready."
Li Xue nodded but remained silent. The original owner did wear makeup but didn’t enjoy it; she always rushed through it half-heartedly. Li Xue herself disliked makeup as well; she found it troublesome and believed her good skin made her naturally beautiful even without it.
However, she needed to minimize any differences from the original owner to avoid drawing attention. The original Li Xue's parents were abroad, leaving only Chen Li and Liu Wen as her relatives.
Chen Li had a poor relationship with the original Li Xue; although they appeared close on the surface, they often argued behind closed doors. Liu Wen was in a relationship with the original Li Xue, but their feelings were not strong; he liked Chen Li and didn’t pay much attention to Li Xue.
The original Li Xue was introverted and reserved, preferring to keep her thoughts to herself, which only worsened her relationship with Liu Wen. Having absorbed the original owner's memories, Li Xue held a negative impression of Liu Wen. He was selfish—he liked Chen Li but couldn’t let go of the original Li Xue either, dragging things out with her.
The original Li Xue cared deeply for Liu Wen; she would rather suffer than break up with him.
Liu Wen had feelings for the original owner, Li Xue, but he preferred Chen Li. He would rather be with Chen Li than with Li Xue. Their emotions were complicated, yet Li Xue did not want to get involved.
Liu Wen stole a glance at Li Xue. The previous night, Chen Li had not returned home, and when Li Xue called to ask if he knew what Chen Li was up to, it made him feel uneasy. He feared that Li Xue would discover his relationship with Chen Li and that she might break up with him. His feelings for Chen Li were complex; he was unwilling to give her up, yet he also did not want to end things with Li Xue.
Li Xue gazed out the window, silently evaluating Liu Wen's appearance in her mind. To be fair, Liu Wen was quite handsome—his sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, tall stature, and refined demeanor made him a typical good-looking man. But he was merely decent in comparison.
In her past life, Li Xue had been a top socialite from a prestigious family, pursued by suitors from all over the city, including top celebrities and heirs of wealthy conglomerates. Compared to those striking figures, Liu Wen's looks fell short.
The car drove smoothly along the road, and neither of them spoke. Liu Wen focused on driving while Li Xue admired the scenery outside.
According to the memories of the original owner, this world was no different from the one she had experienced in her past life—equally bustling and lively, equally noisy and restless.
The car stopped in front of Yuqing Pavilion. It was an upscale private dining establishment with elegant decor and high prices that most people could not afford. Liu Wen parked the car and asked Li Xue to wait for him at the entrance.
Li Xue nodded and stood at the entrance of Yuqing Pavilion. Several Osmanthus trees were planted there, blooming beautifully in the autumn season, filling the air with their delightful fragrance.
Li Xue loved Osmanthus; her family's garden in her past life had several Osmanthus trees as well. Every autumn, the garden would be filled with their sweet scent, refreshing and soothing. She looked at the Osmanthus trees before her and smiled faintly.
“I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to!” A hurried apology broke her reverie.
Li Xue turned to see a small child standing in front of her, blushing as he looked up at her. Just as she was about to speak, the child's mother rushed over.
“What’s wrong with you? Can't you watch where you're going?” The woman, wearing high heels, stormed over and grabbed the child's arm while glaring angrily at Li Xue.
Li Xue frowned slightly and replied calmly, “Your child bumped into me first.”
“Then why didn’t you move out of the way?” The woman scrutinized Li Xue from head to toe. “You look well-dressed; how can you have no manners?”
Li Xue found it amusing despite her irritation. “What I wear has nothing to do with you.”
“You—” The woman raised her hand as if to strike Li Xue.
Li Xue squinted, gripping the woman's wrist, and said coldly, "What do you want?"
"Do you dare to hit me?!" The woman’s voice was sharp. "Do you know who my husband is?!"
Li Xue couldn't be bothered to respond. She forcefully shook off the woman's hand and turned to leave.
But the woman stubbornly grabbed Li Xue's wrist. "Stop right there!"
Li Xue stumbled slightly, nearly losing her balance.
At that moment, a large hand wrapped around Li Xue's waist.
She turned her head and saw a handsome face.
The man wore gold-rimmed glasses and a silver suit, tall and exuding a gentle demeanor.
His complexion was fair, with deep-set features that held a hint of sharpness in his eyes.
"Are you okay?" His tone was warm, his voice deep and pleasant.
Li Xue nodded, steadying herself. "Thank you."
The man released her and looked at the woman across from them.
The woman felt a chill under his gaze and instinctively let go of Li Xue's wrist.
Without saying anything, the man led Li Xue inside Yuqing Pavilion.
Li Xue watched the man's retreating figure, silently speculating about his identity.
"What's wrong?" Liu Wen approached after parking the car, noticing Li Xue standing at the entrance with curiosity.
"Nothing," Li Xue shook her head. "Just bumped into someone."
Liu Wen scrutinized Li Xue for a moment. "You're not hurt, are you?"
"No," Li Xue replied, shaking her head again.
"That's good," Liu Wen sighed in relief. "Let's go inside."
Li Xue nodded and followed Liu Wen into the building.
Before entering, she couldn't help but glance back one last time.
There was no sign of the man at the entrance; he must have already gone in.
Li Xue withdrew her gaze and walked into the private room with Liu Wen.
