The first starship to arrive near Earth's atmosphere was not the "Judgment Day" main battleship, but the "Kser" colonization ship, which had been commandeered by the Emperor. As all Gamma Ray Cannons built on Japan's artificial islands were already aimed and ready to fire, the "Kser" sent a four-word message to Earth: Pause, Negotiation.
"What do they want?" asked the Chairman of the United Nations during an emergency meeting. No one among the seventy international representatives connected via video responded, as they all shared the same question in their minds.
"Regardless of what they want, we should comply with their request for now. As long as it does not threaten humanity's survival, I believe we can consider it," General Jiang Yan spoke first. "My suggestion is to accept the negotiation and let them come down to discuss in person, avoiding war if possible. If absolutely necessary, we can prepare for battle."
General Jiang Yan's proposal received overwhelming support from the international representatives. Three hours later, a small spacecraft was granted permission to land at the entrance of the United Nations headquarters. Azores and several of his attendants emerged from it, signaling with their hands that they bore no weapons before successfully meeting with the Chairman of the United Nations.
After a year of turmoil, Azores appeared much older than before; his grayish-white face looked more like dead ash, with many more wrinkles, though his pointed ears still held a hint of vitality in a light blue hue. He donned a language translator and addressed the Chairman of the United Nations: "Hello, I am Azores, the Peace Negotiation Representative of the the internal Clan and captain of the 'Kser' colonization ship. I won't waste time on pleasantries; I come on behalf of our Emperor with two requests: First, hand over two items—one is Liu Xuan, a boy mixed with Nars' soul, and the other is the Chaos Crystals hidden on Earth. We believe someone on your planet has already discovered them; second, as we requested three years ago, we wish to share your planet's water resources."
"And what benefits do we gain if we agree?" asked the Chairman of the United Nations, while all representatives in the video frames widened their eyes in anticipation.
"The benefit is that we can avoid war and coexist peacefully," Azores bowed slightly. "We understand what war brings; thus, avoiding it is the most beneficial choice for both parties."
"Is that all?"
"Yes."
"Damn it! You are simply being unreasonable!" An elderly Russian representative stood up in his video frame, pointing at Azores and shouting angrily. "This is not negotiation; this is clearly coercing us into signing an unequal treaty! Is avoiding war worth allowing you to plunder our resources while harming lives?!"
"But you have no other choice," Azores replied. "Of course, if your planet disagrees with our terms, we won't push too hard. After all, these are our conditions offered to you out of respect for your planet. Before this, our plan was to unleash the full energy of Life Crystals to completely crystallize your planet's surface. At that point, no one would survive, and the resulting crystals would provide us with endless energy—so why not reconsider?"
The United Nations representatives silently turned away to look at their fellow international delegates on video. The decision was left in their hands to accept or reject.
Even when faced with humanity's survival at stake, they still defaulted to a two-thirds majority vote to determine their fate.
At M City Military Base
General Jiang Yan stood with high-ranking officials from various bases who were contemplating alongside him; however, they did not hold decision-making power.
"Old Jiang, why not just agree?" an elderly colonel suggested. "Everyone knows that a species capable of interstellar navigation is undoubtedly stronger than us. Perhaps accepting now and finding ways later could be a wise strategy."
"That's impossible," General Jiang Yan shook his head. "If we accept these terms, how are we different from becoming their colony? You see only freshwater resources now, but you have no idea what else they might demand. Furthermore, Chaos Crystals are already fused with a soul; Nars and he are the two strongest pillars of The Celestial Warriors Alliance. The Celestial Warriors Alliance is our last trump card; once that alliance is dismantled, dreaming of turning things around will be futile!"
"As a general of my nation, how could I not know the horrors of war? But amidst conflicting interests, some battles must be fought. Our Earth has prepared for this decisive battle for so long; I do not want our nation bowing down to thieves in the future!"
General Jiang Yan would no longer heed others' lectures; amidst everyone's shouts, he resolutely pressed the rejection button.
His declaration was like the first domino falling in a chain reaction; he cast the first vote against and was soon followed by successive rejections from Russian representatives and many others who denied this so-called "peace negotiation." The video frames turned red one after another, indicating rejection of internal human negotiation requests.
"It seems your planet is quite unfriendly towards our negotiation terms," Azores shook his head. "In that case, I'm afraid we'll initiate war in twelve hours; until then, you may still change your mind."
"We will not change our minds," said the Chairman of the United Nations firmly. "If negotiations fail, then we shall meet in battle."
Azores left behind a smirk at the corner of his mouth as he walked back into his spacecraft with his attendants.
M City Military Base Six Hours Remaining
General Jiang urgently summoned The Celestial Warriors Alliance. Everyone knew why the general had called them here, as they rushed from Song Family Villa District to M City Military Base to meet with General Jiang and other national leaders. This time, even the Commander had come forward to personally welcome The Celestial Warriors Alliance.
Along the way, the city was eerily empty; there were no leisurely pedestrians on the streets, nor vehicles bustling about for daily life. Under the dim sky, the entire area felt desolate, replaced only by fighter jets occasionally soaring overhead and armored personnel carriers and military trucks traveling down the wide roads. All of humanity was making final preparations for this battle.
An Xiaotian, looking through the car window, saw the scenery rushing by, reflecting on his face. He gazed at this bleak world; even though it was summer, autumn seemed to have arrived early today, casting a sorrowful pall over what used to be a vibrant city.
“All the warships from around the world have gathered in the North Pacific,” Jiao An spoke up in the vehicle. “Because the ‘Kser’ battleship is stationed above the Pacific, once combat begins, the fleets from various nations will form the first line of defense.”
“They…” Lu Sha hesitated, sitting in the front row and looking back at Jiao An.
Lu Sha wanted to ask if they weren’t afraid of dying. It was a very practical question; it wasn’t just them who understood that the first line of defense would inevitably be breached.
Upon arriving at M City Military Base, the Commander personally approached members of The Celestial Warriors Alliance, shaking hands one by one. When he reached Liang Muqi, the Commander spoke earnestly: “Liang Muqi, you were once a prodigy of our nation and also a traitor whom everyone wanted to hunt down. Today, as we face humanity's survival, we will bury past grievances. Your performance will determine everything.”
“Rest assured, Commander, I will complete the mission,” Liang Muqi saluted.
“The Celestial Warriors, this will be my last call to you,” General Jiang stated solemnly in the conference room. “I hope war does not occur, but for humanity's dignity and future, this battle is unavoidable. You are humanity's last trump card and our strongest fighting force. In less than six hours, global warfare will officially commence. We predict that the enemy will launch attacks along the entire coast of the Pacific, but the main battlefield will likely be within our borders in City M, as it is coastal and closest to where their battleship is stationed.” International military forces were already en route, and I hope you can command well and fight effectively in this battle.”
“This time, I won’t dictate how you should fight; all tactics are up to you to arrange. My words are finished; now it’s your turn, An Xiaotian, Liu Xuan, and Nars.”
An Xiaotian and Liu Xuan, both just 24 years old, stepped forward to bear humanity's final banner.
“First of all, their attack must involve factors related to Nars,” Liu Xuan said. “They have always wanted to capture and kill him; in a sense, that includes me. They know my whereabouts on Earth as their stalkers and will undoubtedly mobilize their forces to hunt me down; it’s only a matter of time before City M becomes the main battlefield.”
“This is a matter of battlefield positioning. Next, let’s have An Xiaotian announce our tactical arrangements for urban warfare once our maritime defenses are breached.”
An Xiaotian activated a holographic screen displaying each member's avatar from The Celestial Warriors Alliance: “According to intelligence provided by Nars, Lu Sha, Dr. Xu, and Titan Aibo, you will hold the frontline against their heavily armored vanguard alongside our heavy assault troops. But please remember not to engage in prolonged battles; we’ll fight while retreating—like a rabbit nibbling on a rolling carrot.”
A puzzled murmur spread among officers from various countries below.
“A rabbit nibbling on a carrot rolls it forward as it eats; under food temptation, it won’t easily leave but will keep nibbling at that rolling carrot until it pushes it to a designated spot where a large net drops from above to capture it—essentially luring the enemy deeper!” said An Xiaotian. “And Dr. Xu, you are that carrot; remember not to get too attached to fighting; retreat when necessary; we have our ways.”
“Sister Jiao An, Weishan, your army units and the ‘Xuan Nu’ fighter squadron in aerial combat will serve as that large net. Once we gather our enemies together, we’ll catch them all in one sweep!”
“And don’t forget, if unexpected situations arise, we still have the Spirit Corps Legion and Divine Domain Vanguard. We don’t yet know where they are or how they’re arranged, but I believe they won’t let us down.”
