"I have always kept my word; there is no need for me to swear an oath," Lin Yu declared firmly, her gaze fixed on Cold Star, though her words were directed at Li Hang. "Unlike those superficial fools who are inconsistent and engage in unscrupulous deeds." As she spoke, she paid no mind to Li Hang's thoughts or the expressions of others; instead, she furrowed her brow and picked up the Chain to examine it closely.
The Chain had a pendant the size of a coin, with inscriptions on the back. Upon closer inspection, the inscription read: Cold Star.
"Cold Star?"
Cold Star heard her. She realized that Lin Yu was not calling her but was referring to something wrong with the Chain.
Li Hang also heard. "The name on the Chain?"
"Yes." Lin Yu placed the Chain around Cold Star's neck. "This Chain should be connected to you."
As she fastened the Chain around Cold Star's neck, Cold Star sensed an unprecedented vision. There were cries of pain and despair, the smell of burning and decay, and a woman holding a newborn baby in a massive iron cage. The woman had just given birth and was taken away, while Han Shaoyu's complex gaze fixated on the wailing infant girl on the ground.
Cold Star was not Han Shaoyu's daughter! With her abilities, Cold Star sensed that what had transpired was only part of the story, while Lin Yu perceived something entirely different.
In the vision, Cold Star was a human child. When Han Shaoyu fed on livestock blood, he discovered Cold Star's pregnant mother. Thus, he abducted this unfortunate woman to his lair and granted her immortality, wanting to witness the birth of her child.
This matter was also related to Lin Yu; before finding her, Han Shaoyu sought an heir from the Han family. Consequently, Cold Star became a substitute, and to prevent this information from leaking out, he devised a plan to silence her.
Han Shaoyu found a plausible reason: he would accuse Cold Star's mother of betrayal and subsequently annihilate her in a devastating blaze of light.
Lin Yu felt sympathy for Cold Star but could not reveal the harsh truth to this poor child. Now that Li Hang also knew the truth, she could only take decisive action against him.
Li Hang seemed uninterested in the mysteries surrounding Cold Star and Lin Yu's origins. However, he noticed a flash of murderous intent in Lin Yu's eyes as her lips curled into a smirk; it was clear that those who sought trouble with him had yet to be born.
With a swift motion, as if drawn by instinct, Lin Yu unsheathed a sharp dagger. But before it could strike, Li Hang seized it with one hand. Blood oozed from his fingers, dripping onto the ground as a startled Cold Star looked on, confused about why Lin Yu would attempt to assassinate someone whom she admired as a father figure.
"Is killing me really useful?" Li Hang asked as he held onto the dagger with one bleeding hand while his other hand twisted like a spiral. To Cold Star's eyes, they appeared to be embracing each other. In reality, his finger had already pressed against Lin Yu's abdomen like a drill.
"For this poor child, I must kill you."
"Are you sure that without me, you can safely take her out?" Li Hang's gaze was cold as he stared directly at Lin Yu. "Han Shaoyu has entrusted this place to me completely, and you should know that getting out of here is not as easy as you think."
"Where is he?" Lin Yu was referring to Xiao Qiang. Li Hang's words hinted that there were traps within the Ant Nest. So, the last time they had left so easily, was it because Cold Star and Luca had arranged it on purpose? Was her goal to have him eaten by a werewolf outside, or to never return?
"He?" Li Hang's eyes flickered with surprise. How did Lin Yu know about what had happened that night when everything was done so discreetly? "I don't understand what you're talking about," he tried to deny.
Lin Yu pulled a cigarette butt from his pocket, pinching it between his fingers and bringing it close to Li Hang's eyes. "It has your scent on it."
Li Hang's gaze shifted momentarily, a slight smirk appearing on his lips. He neither denied nor confirmed it, leaning closer to whisper in her ear, "You're quite clever; you haven't forgotten what just happened, have you?"
Reminded by Li Hang, Lin Yu felt a jolt of realization—she indeed hadn’t been cautious around Cold Star.
Cold Star remained lost in the atmosphere of the earlier encounter. Who was she? This mysterious sister Lin Yu seemed harmless. So why did Luca say she was here to seize the inheritance? As she looked at this sister, she noticed that the sister was also watching her.
"Sister, I was wrong just now. You two talk; I'll go back to my room." Luca had gone out with her father to hunt the Beast Werewolf, and she wanted to wait in her room for Luca to return and clarify things.
Lin Yu and Li Hang both saw through the little girl's thoughts; they couldn't alarm her. Han Shaoyu was training werewolves in the Ant Nest, enslaving them and building an army of werewolves. His ambitions were well-known—he wanted to unify the Earth and eradicate humanity to create his own dominion.
This was Li Hang's inner thought, and it was also what Lin Yu sensed as a pressing issue.
To uncover more information, she had no choice but to endure and remain in this Living Dead tomb. Whether or not she was Han Shaoyu's daughter had become irrelevant; after all, matters concerning humanity and nature could not unfold under her watchful eyes—they must be nipped in the bud.
Li Hang refused to answer whether Xiao Qiang was in his hands, but it was clear he wasn't the type of insidious villain. What she needed to do now was stabilize Cold Star's emotions, making sure this little girl would be completely obedient and compliant.
"You two sisters are fine now; as an outsider, I should leave and attend to my own matters."
"Wait." Lin Yu stopped Cold Star from leaving and then blocked Li Hang again. Neither knew what she intended; she looked at them both and said, "Can you do me a favor?"
Li Hang thought this was ridiculous again—was Lin Yu brain-dead from genetic mutation? He truly felt that this wasn’t the right place to discuss Xiao Qiang. However, he still responded, "What kind of favor?"
"Help me check on the child's situation."
Li Hang raised an eyebrow. "I'm sorry, but I can't help you with that." With that, he stepped away from Lin Yu and strode off.
Lin Yu stood there in a daze, looking at Cold Star. "Why haven't you left?"
"Do you have something to say to me?"
"..." Lin Yu forced a smile. "Let's go!" The two of them exited the lounge, the noise from the Ant Nest echoing around them, along with the swishing sound of braids and the persistent cries of the slaves pleading for mercy.
"Cold Star, do you want to hear about my sister's childhood story?"
"Yes." Cold Star nodded. "I also want to know who I am."
"If you fulfill my request, I will find out the mystery of your origins." Lin Yu stopped in his tracks and gently brushed her forehead with his fingers. "Do you love Han Shaoyu, your father?"
"..." Cold Star's dreamy eyes gazed into the distance at a house guarded by slaves. She moved her lips, withdrew her gaze, glanced at Lin Yu, and whispered, "He gave me fantasies, promising that in the future, I would be the queen of Earth."
