The cold wind howled as she leaped gracefully on the Saddle, her hair dancing in the breeze.
Some emotions are sent across thousands of miles, while some feelings are as light as feathers, drifting away with just a turn. The love that shifted from pursuit to abandonment, once beautiful memories, now mere fleeting shadows. In her Disposition, remnants of her Pride lingered, while the Heartless nature within her grew alongside resentment, and the past warmth of her Gentle spirit faded into oblivion.
Yet even so, that difficult-to-let-go Concern continued to torment her deeply.
Forced back to the future world and imprisoned as a Test Subject in a mysterious mansion, she initially saw no familiar faces. Losing her freedom and attempting Escape multiple times ended in failure each time.
The Sleeping Bloodline within her awakened during an encounter with a Dark Elf in Ancient Times, igniting a thirst for blood. One night, someone unknown slipped Human Blood through the window; to this day, Lin Yu had no idea who it was. However, after that first taste, there was no turning back.
How did Professor R obtain the Rare Serum? She had no clue how Wen Kai got news of Xiao Qiang. When they emerged from the Stratum, all she saw were the pulsing Capillaries—nothing else.
With one bite… Wen Kai fell victim. She found information about Xiao Qiang within his Capillaries, but it was fleeting. Professor R intervened just in time to stop her from drinking further; if she continued, he would have become nothing but an empty shell.
The information about Xiao Qiang obtained from the serum rendered Lin Yu's inquiries and Wen Kai's responses irrelevant. She felt her life had lost its fundamental meaning, becoming a walking corpse. Although she possessed the ability to remain youthful, genuine emotions had vanished; now she was no different from a cold-blooded creature.
The horse galloped swiftly, leaping out of the forest as a cursed werewolf appeared. Under the cover of night, Lin Yu could see the werewolf up close, its gaping maw revealing sharp fangs—dangerously close. But her horse was swift and strong; with a fierce neigh and pounding hooves, they dashed through the Gorge and trees.
The werewolf panted but did not slow its pursuit. Several times it nearly bit at the horse's legs but was struck down by Lin Yu's Silver Bullets, collapsing beneath the horse's feet. A deadly chase between human and Werewolf unfolded under the night sky.
Lin Yu pressed against the horse's back, squeezing tightly with her legs. Suddenly, she veered into a deep and steep Gorge; if she traveled straight for several miles down this path, she could enter Dongjiawan Boundary.
This Gorge was famously known as Wolf Gorge. It was narrow enough for only one horse to pass through at a time. The horse skillfully navigated the tight space; just a hair's breadth away could lead Lin Yu to collide intimately with the rocks. This environment posed a life-or-death test for the Werewolves as well; those pursuing from both sides risked losing their balance and crashing against the rocks—a fatal outcome.
Named Wolf Gorge for good reason, it was said to be a forbidden area where Werewolves dared not tread. Hunters had once set traps here and wiped out dozens of them in one fell swoop.
However, with prey running before them now, those Werewolves had long since discarded any fear of this taboo. If they could cross Wolf Gorge, safety would be within reach. Lin Yu shot like a storm—whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Each Silver Bullet whistled through the air as she targeted the nearest Werewolves.
As each werewolf fell dead, their true forms emerged—naked corpses littering the ground. It seemed they had glimpsed death itself; the remaining Werewolves howled primal cries of despair that echoed throughout Wolf Gorge. Those who received the warning halted their advance, helplessly watching Lin Yu ride away on horseback—her silhouette strikingly heroic as she vanished into the distance with an anguished wail.
Xiao Qiang was no easy opponent either; his iron fists pierced through a werewolf's chest cavity and yanked out its liver. The sight of the bloody organ sickened him beyond measure; before he could discard it, another werewolf lunged at him.
After several rounds of fighting, Xiao Qiang gradually felt his strength waning. The effects of the drug injected by Matt had not fully kicked in, leaving him somewhat disoriented.
As Xiao Qiang struggled against the werewolf, a shadowy figure watched him intently from the darkness. Several times, this person contemplated stepping out of the shadows but hesitated, wanting to observe the outcome further.
The glint of a dagger was particularly striking against the night. Xiao Qiang's arm was deeply clawed by the werewolf, blood streaming from the wound. The werewolf howled in excitement, "Awooooo!" With no time to bandage his injury, Xiao Qiang narrowly avoided having his throat slashed by another swipe from behind.
This couldn't continue; he would surely exhaust himself. Xiao Qiang sensed something was amiss; it seemed these people did not intend to kill him immediately but rather to wear him down.
The sound of hooves clattering approached from a distance, drawing the attention of the figure hiding in the shadows. He felt it was time to act decisively and not wait any longer.
A human voice called out from the darkness, "Help! There's a werewolf!" Just then, a bullet whizzed through the air, striking the werewolf that was battling Xiao Qiang with pinpoint accuracy.
The werewolf collapsed to the ground, and in an instant, it reverted to its human form. A bluish light erupted from its abdomen and mouth, dissipating into nothingness before Xiao Qiang's eyes and those of the other werewolves.
Who was it? Xiao Qiang had no time to ponder as he swung his fist again at the remaining werewolves. To his surprise, those fierce creatures suddenly crumbled and retreated, vanishing into a tunnel.
That powerful figure? "Show yourself!" Xiao Qiang shouted while pressing his left hand against his bleeding right arm. As he scanned his surroundings, he suddenly saw a tall and robust figure emerging from the shadows. It appeared to be human, but why had he saved him? Why did the werewolves retreat after hearing him shout about shooting one? Did he possess some kind of talisman that frightened them?
As the newcomer approached, Xiao Qiang remained cautious. He barked, "Who are you?"
"Xiao Qiang, don't you recognize me?"
"Li Hang? What are you doing here?"
"What's wrong? Don't you believe your buddy?"
"Thank you."
"My car is parked over there; let me give you a ride," Li Hang said as he pretended to offer support and affectionately linked arms with Xiao Qiang.
"It's been a while since I've seen you guys; I must have missed you." Xiao Qiang recalled what Matt had said about Professor R's acting but realized he hadn't sensed Li Hang's presence when they went to that lodge. "How is Professor R?"
"Not good."
"What happened?"
"You've known for a while that the professor has a terminal illness."
"Is he...?"
"He's almost like a corpse now. Right now, he..." Li Hang said emotionally, wiping the corner of his eye.
It seemed that Matt and the others had misunderstood the professor. Xiao Qiang comforted him, saying, "Don't be sad; good people have their own protection from heaven."
The sound of hooves eventually faded into the vast night, the horse too exhausted to rise after collapsing. Lin Yu could only run on foot towards Dongjiawan Tunnel, but he was a step too late.
The clouds thickened, and the full moon had been hidden behind them for quite some time. Standing still, he caught the scent of blood in the air—a familiar smell, mingled with that of wild beasts.
A blinding light emerged from the southwest, flickering as if countless rays were reflecting in midair. Inside the car, Matt and Wu Yi saw the full moon slip behind the clouds and wanted to turn back to assist Xiao Qiang.
