Chapter 073: Through the Gap
"I encountered a werewolf." As Xiao Qiang spoke these words, he caught a glimpse of fear on Wu Yi and Matt's faces. "I've been to 2080 and witnessed vampires and werewolves firsthand. You might not believe it, but I even stayed in their lair for a while."
Matt was stunned, disbelief etched on his face as he swallowed hard. "Is that when you left for the year 2080?"
"Yes, you don't want to know what happened in 2080."
From Xiao Qiang's words, Matt and Wu Yi grasped the severity of the situation. Matt trembled, his lips quivering as he asked, "What was it like?"
"The rulers of Earth are vampires, who enslave werewolves. Humans rely on vampires for protection while vampires plunder human resources and land, expanding the werewolf population."
Hearing this made Matt and Wu Yi feel a chill run through their bodies, their joints trembling despite their efforts to remain calm. Their faces still bore the pallor of fear.
"What can we do?" Wu Yi finally managed to utter this rather bland question after a long pause.
"Nothing. The difference between my last return and this incident is significant. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing."
"What do you mean?" Matt asked urgently. With his graying hair, he had experienced both having and losing too much to bear any more. What good is your knowledge? The tides of time cannot be changed by an individual.
"When I returned from 2080, I came to find you, but things weren't like this." Xiao Qiang really didn't want to bring up that matter again. He hesitated for a moment before finally saying under their expectant gazes, "When I came back from 2080, you both were dead, including Lin Yu... the only one who survived was..."
"Who?"
"Xiao Yu."
Wu Yi looked puzzled at Matt. "Who is Xiao Yu?"
"My son, the child of Lin Yu and me."
"Your son?" Matt exclaimed in surprise, puzzled. "But I heard that Lin Yu gave birth to a daughter."
In the distance, the clouds swirled ominously around the high mountains. On the ground, a car sped along a winding road that stretched like a ribbon. The scenery on both sides was dry and unremarkable, only the wind stirring the stillness hinted at this desolate place devoid of human presence.
Inside the car, they continued their earlier conversation. "That's impossible, I saw it with my own eyes..." Xiao Qiang denied Matt's statement.
"Then there's something wrong," Matt replied thoughtfully. "Why would they hide whether Lin Yu's child is a boy or a girl?"
"Is that a problem?"
"Do you know what that villa is used for?" Matt countered.
Xiao Qiang shook his head. "No, it's my first time going there."
"They use it to study Superhuman Species. Your child was lucky to be chosen, but unfortunately, it was so well hidden that it was still discovered by those things."
Xiao Qiang tensed up at the mention of critical issues and hurriedly asked, "Discovered by whom?"
"Let me tell you what happened that night!" Wu Yi seemed to seek Matt's approval. Seeing he had no objections, he nodded at Xiao Qiang and continued, "What happened that night was over ten years ago, but it remains vivid in my memory as if it happened yesterday."
Lin Yu's condition was not good; as her pregnancy progressed, her emotions became increasingly agitated. She feared exposure and even resorted to self-harm, cutting her wrists several times to let the blood flow freely.
Later on, they bound her to the bed and treated her like a patient with a plant disease. With advanced technology and medical equipment at their disposal, they could provide her with the necessary nutrients for her pregnancy on a regular basis while managing everything else.
However, things took a turn for the worse. She rejected food, her eyes turned bloodshot, and the nursing staff noticed abnormalities in her teeth. In their relentless pursuit of the fetus in her womb, they continued to treat her according to their established methods.
Lin Yu refused to eat; her eyes became pitch black, resembling dark glass beads that were unsettling to behold. With strength like an ox, she broke free from Shu Bo's restraints and attempted to escape from the room where she was being held captive.
Several times she had been caught and sent back, and the ordinary prison cell had transformed into a special prison cell. On the night before the incident, the sky was dark and heavy, with a torrential downpour that lasted for half an hour, while Lin Yu, in her special prison cell, remained surprisingly calm.
She curled up on the bed, surrounded by cold, three-dimensional superalloy walls and invisible intelligent surveillance lines. The rain poured down, occasionally interrupted by the rumble of thunder, with lightning flashing intermittently as the lights flickered in response to the thunderclaps.
In the brief moments when the surveillance screen flickered between black and bright, someone seemed to catch a glimpse of a terrifying face that quickly vanished from view. They called for the guard, who entered with an electromagnetic baton to check on Lin Yu's room.
Lin Yu remained curled up on her bed, indifferent to the commotion at the door.
The guard opened her door but found nothing unusual and left again.
"What is it?" Xiao Qiang asked impatiently.
"Don't rush me; let me tell you slowly," Wu Yi said, focusing on Xiao Qiang as he continued, "Actually, at that time, Lin Yu was still clear-headed. She was trying every possible way to contact us."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Qiang felt a wave of helplessness wash over him. His nose tinged with bitterness, his eyes moist and breathing rapid as he said, "She must have suffered."
"Of course. If you hadn't gone to that damned Ancient Times with her, things might not have been so bad," Matt unexpectedly chimed in after remaining silent.
"Are you blaming me?" Xiao Qiang felt an urge to lash out.
"No..." Matt saw that Xiao Qiang was also someone who wore his heart on his sleeve; his eyes were red like a rabbit's, so he chose his words carefully. He turned to Wu Yi, who had paused in his narration. "You continue; I'll take over driving manually."
"Tell me how Lin Yu managed to contact you."
"She used her powerful telepathic waves to reach out to us despite the risk of premature labor. Although we made contact, we could only determine her direction but couldn't pinpoint her exact location. We wasted time while searching for her."
"If it weren't for Li Hang and their interference, how could this have happened?" Matt couldn't help but interject.
“Li Hang? Professor R is also involved?”
“Yeah, their target is the child in Lin Yu's womb.”
“What the hell... what is going on?” Xiao Qiang said, clutching his head in pain, murmuring, “Poor Lin Yu, suffering so much.”
“Things got a bit strange after that…” Wu Yi stretched out his tone, a habit he couldn't shake off.
Xiao Qiang snapped, “What are you playing at? Just spill it already!”
“Stop with the suspense and just explain everything clearly,” Matt added angrily.
“While Lin Yu was in contact with us, he also reached out to others,” Wu Yi said with a mysterious expression. “That very night, a mysterious creature appeared. They helped to abduct Lin Yu and burned down the villa.”
“The child…” Xiao Qiang murmured weakly, feeling as if the world was spinning around him, utterly drained.
“When the firefighters finally arrived to extinguish the flames, the child was dead—a charred body twisted beyond recognition, with a bloody hole on its neck marked by bite marks.”
