Since Xiao Qiang disappeared before Jill and the others, the Waji Mountain People have not forgotten him. His appearance and his brave fighting skills are deeply rooted in the memories of these simple Waji Mountain People.
The closest Saint Mother to Jill is elderly, but her foresight has reached new heights. After receiving notice from the Saint Mother, the leader of the Waji Mountain Tribe, Amayi, arrived early at the meeting house to quietly await her arrival.
Jill is now a mother, and her husband is a warrior from the Waji Mountain Tribe chosen by the Saint Mother.
On the sacred Waji Mountain, Mammoths are still frequent visitors, but they have reached an understanding with the humans here. Each visit is brief; they never cross the crops cultivated by the hardworking Waji Mountain People.
In peaceful days on Waji Mountain, children grow up, and warriors become braver. Wapu always remembers the words of Saint Xiao Qiang, who saved them from slavery: to unite and stand together against their enemies.
They often interact, learning and improving from one another.
In historical records, there was no paper in Ancient Times. However, wise humans would carve what they saw into stones in their living or passing environments; for example, cave walls bore images of their captured prey, which would later be discovered by examining scientists.
Amayi has matured from youth to adulthood under the guidance of Wapu and allied leaders, mastering many hunting techniques. Prehistory is divided into five periods: Paleolithic, Proterozoic, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic.
In Amayi's time, they are considered to be in the late Cenozoic era. The Cenozoic includes the Old Tertiary, New Tertiary, and Quaternary periods, which is the most recent geological era.
Surrounding them is a green world. Once dominated by angiosperms during the Tertiary Period, humans of the Cenozoic have made reasonable use of these plants. They have greatly developed the cultivation and management of these plants, transforming previously monotonous coniferous forests into lush evergreen broadleaf forests filled with flowers and fruits.
For these plants, close attention must be paid to climate changes. However, as the climate became drier and colder, many areas experienced xerophytic phenomena.
Thus, in the early new era emerged grasslands dominated by monocotyledonous herbaceous plants. In the Quaternary period appeared tundra vegetation—also known as Tundra—primarily consisting of mosses, lichens, perennial grasses, and hardy shrubs found above the tree line in polar regions and temperate highlands.
Yet throughout Earth's natural chain changes, it is still characterized by an unprecedented flourishing of mammals; thus, the Cenozoic is also known as the Age of Mammals. The lush angiosperms in humid tropical forests greatly promoted mammalian development, while insects thrived alongside these flowering plants.
The widespread distribution of angiosperms and insects further facilitated avian prosperity. As grassland areas expanded, many herbivorous grassland animals emerged among ungulates and rodents, followed by an increase in carnivorous animals.
These numerous carnivores brought vitality to Cenozoic humans while also burying many deadly dangers. For instance, there were giant short-faced bears, Ankylosaurus, Saber-Toothed Tigers, Giant Hyenas, Hyenas, Cave Bears, Terror Birds, and an unevolved Simulacrum Lion—also known as Cave Lion.
These animals possess extremely powerful fangs capable of crushing a human skull; after all, a human's skull isn't as hard as a Jeep! They could easily crush a Jeep.
Among these carnivores, the weakest is the Terror Bird. It was previously mentioned that it was a giant bird that attacked Amayi and his companions in the forest—this was indeed a Terror Bird.
Amayi is the leader; his dwelling is adorned with various animal skins. Among these carnivores, they regard the Saber-Toothed Tiger as a divine beast and naturally would not attempt to surround or capture it.
Finally, there was movement at the door, and he saw the Saint Mother being supported by Jill as she walked in.
"Esteemed Saint Mother, is there something important today?"
"Yes, you must hurry to rescue Saint."
"Saint?" Both Jill and Amayi exclaimed in surprise. Especially Jill, whose face briefly flashed with a complex expression.
"Yes, he has come..." The Saint Mother's eyes were no longer visible; she relied entirely on her intuition to sense what was happening and whether there was any danger.
"Esteemed Saint Mother, can you tell me Saint's exact location?"
The Saint Mother raised her head to look directly at Amayi. Her pupils, long devoid of color and luster, seemed to see someone trapped in another distant space. "He is beneath Mirage Tower."
"The legendary treasure?"
"Yes."
"Is Saint a person or...?"
"There are three of them," the Saint Mother said, her expression changing when she mentioned the three. She shook her head and added, "What a sin!"
Amayi and Jill exchanged glances, both unsure of what the Saint Mother meant by "sin." Just as they were about to ask further questions, the Saint Mother shook her head again and said, "I must leave now. This is my final repayment to Saint and my last foresight."
The Saint Mother was leaving!
A look of sorrow appeared on Amayi and Jill's faces as they solemnly stared at her. They held her withered hands tightly, tears spilling from their eyes.
"According to the old customs."
Amayi shook her head. "No, I will build a temple to honor your golden body."
The Saint Mother became furious. "Do you wish to defy the rules left by our ancestors?"
"We are all Cenozoic, I..." Amayi hesitated under the silent gaze of Saint Mother, unable to continue.
Jill wore a troubled expression, feeling utterly distressed. With Saint Mother being of such age, they still had to... follow the old rules! Hadn't they stopped using them for many years?
"Honorable Saint Mother, when can we set off?"
"Finally asking the right question," Saint Mother said with a hint of approval in her smile. "There's no better day than today; you can depart tomorrow. This time, you must find someone from the family of the alliance leader Wapu. Only then will you be able to locate the trapped Saint in Stratum."
On the peak of Waji Mountain, a woman appeared in the fading sunlight. Facing the setting sun, she slid her wrist adorned with a seven-star bracelet, lost in thoughts of someone.
Wapu's son was the current leader of the Sun Tribe. He and Amayi were good friends and allied leaders. He gladly agreed to their request and set off that very day with the new sage and the valiant warriors of the Sun Tribe to search for the Wildfire Sage in the desert.
The Sun Tribe used bamboo poles planted in the desert to define time by their shadows. The sage mentioned that at 12:53 PM, there might be tectonic movements, causing anomalies in the desert.
They needed to find those trapped beneath the desert's Stratum in the shortest time possible and bring the Saint out before the tectonic activity subsided completely.
Noon was when the sun was at its most scorching, with temperatures in the desert soaring far above other places. However, they had brought enough water bags, and given their understanding of desert habits, they should not encounter any unexpected situations.
