Amidst the swirling snowflakes, Xiao Qiang spotted a dark and eerie ancient castle. With Lin Yu on his mind, he hesitated to linger any longer and turned to retreat, only to see her approaching in a manner similar to his own.
"What is this place?" she asked.
"I don't know."
"Are you cold?"
Lin Yu disliked being here but didn't know how to change Xiao Qiang's mind about continuing the exploration. "I'm not cold. Can we go back?"
"Are you tired? How about we rest over there for a bit?"
"Okay." With Xiao Qiang's support, Lin Yu navigated through the strange ice sculptures of ancient architecture. As they drew closer to the ominous castle, an inexplicable sense of unease grew within her.
Xiao Qiang held her slightly cold hand, kissed her icy forehead, and pulled her tightly into his embrace. They stepped toward the castle, entering the grand hall through the main door, where the snow and chill vanished, replaced by warmth that enveloped them both. They continued forward and saw a staircase reminiscent of those in ancient buildings, leading up to what appeared to be a throne fit for a king.
Lin Yu mechanically followed Xiao Qiang toward the throne, noticing a slightly smaller chair beside it. As they ascended the staircase, a fireplace that seemed piled high with snow emitted soft popping sounds, and strange flames suddenly ignited.
The scene was too bizarre; it felt as if they were under the influence of some mysterious force. Lin Yu halted once more, urging Xiao Qiang to leave this place.
The warmth from the flames enveloped them both, making it hard for anyone to want to leave. Xiao Qiang insisted that Lin Yu rest here for a while, stubbornly continuing onward.
When they reached the throne, he hesitated for a moment before sitting down involuntarily.
Lin Yu stared at Xiao Qiang in shock, feeling that he had become somewhat obsessive after passing through the Bronze Mirror. What did it mean for him to sit on this throne without a care?
"Come on, sit over there," he said.
"Why?"
"I think it's quite enjoyable," Xiao Qiang replied with a satisfied expression.
Lin Yu shot him an annoyed glare and reluctantly took a seat in the smaller chair.
"Do we look like a king and queen?" he asked.
"Stop being so narcissistic," Lin Yu retorted. Feeling hungry, she urged him to take out food from his backpack. It was then that Xiao Qiang suddenly remembered he had left the backpack behind when he discarded it during their passage through the Bronze Mirror, deeming it a burden.
Xiao Qiang got up to grab his backpack, while Lin Yu stood up to survey the surroundings.
Similarly, the walls of these ancient buildings were adorned with patterns. Unlike the patterns outside, those inside depicted a bizarre creature high above, with various beings resembling elves worshipping it below.
Suddenly, she looked at the Throne and then at the mural, realizing that the Throne matched the one depicted in the mural. The creature sitting on the Throne, with a pair of enormous Wings, felt strangely familiar.
"Hey, is there any fire to warm up?" Xiao Qiang approached quietly, startling her when he spoke. Turning to look at him, she inexplicably associated him with the winged creature in the mural.
"What are you thinking about?" Seeing Lin Yu lost in thought, Xiao Qiang smiled at her and gently shook her shoulder. "Weren't you hungry earlier? Let's eat something, okay?"
Lin Yu ignored Xiao Qiang's friendly gesture and stared intently at him. "Did you already know about this place? Is that why you tricked me into coming here?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Look at the patterns in the mural."
Xiao Qiang was puzzled by Lin Yu's sudden anger and reluctantly walked over to examine the mural.
"If I'm not mistaken, you've been reincarnated as a human. You must have been that demon king in your past life."
"O(∩_∩)O Haha~ What are you thinking?"
"Isn't it true? You also have a pair of Wings."
Xiao Qiang was genuinely startled by Lin Yu's reminder and looked closely at the mural again. Sure enough, the creature sitting high on the Throne bore a striking resemblance to his transformed self. Nevertheless, he argued vehemently, "Don't believe everything you hear. What does that have to do with anything? I'm your husband, and you're carrying our child. Besides, you know better than anyone who caused my mutation."
"Fine! Explain the meaning of these murals to me, as well as those outside."
This left Xiao Qiang in a bind. Was he supposed to tell her that the mural outside depicted a group of Wolfman Slaves worshipping Elder Zombie Han Shaoyu?
"Got nothing to say now? Fine, you can stay here as your demon king while I’m leaving," Lin Yu said angrily as she stood up to leave.
"Don't be like that! Let's take a break and eat something so we have the strength to continue exploring." What should have been a simple matter had become complicated due to these strange murals.
Lin Yu refused to eat and insisted on leaving.
In a desperate situation, Xiao Qiang racked his brain and suddenly thought of Silver Nitrate. "Hey, what do you think about using Silver Nitrate to eliminate vampires and werewolves?"
"What do you mean? Are there vampires here?" Xiao Qiang's incoherent words only deepened Lin Yu's suspicion.
"Let's calm down for a moment. I came here on a whim, and I didn't expect to see all this. Can you give me some time? I want to understand what this place really signifies."
Lin Yu wasn't unreasonable. Seeing Xiao Qiang's sincere attitude, he decided not to persist in his stubbornness. He silently sat down on a chair, took a large gulp from the water pouch in one hand, and with the other, he picked up some food, taking small bites along with the water.
As Lin Yu ate, his anxious emotions began to settle.
Xiao Qiang was fully absorbed in contemplating the mural and its connection to the Bronze Mirror and this ancient castle. His thoughts became fixed, and he stared into space... Unbeknownst to him, he seemed to enter an illusory realm.
In this space, he saw the Light Spirit and countless other types of spirits... Suddenly, red blood appeared in his vision! A Flying Bat burst in, shattering the tranquility of the spirit world.
The Elf Demon King led the resistance, but it was futile. The Crystal substance fell like snowflakes... This Crystal material was the nemesis of the Flying Bat; it couldn't enter, and the spirits couldn't escape. Cunningly, the Flying Bat sent a werewolf to guard the entrance.
Lin Yu, still eating, didn't notice Xiao Qiang's movements. Initially sulking and unwilling to speak with him, he suddenly realized that Xiao Qiang had a dazed expression, his eyes unusually focused on one spot.
Xiao Qiang had never been in such a state before; she was bewildered. With a sharp gasp, she grabbed him and shook him vigorously.
