After Xiao Qiang exited the Hut, he observed that this small village was nestled in an inconspicuous valley, far from other concentrated human settlements.
Could these dead humans all be werewolves? Were they killed by that masked group he had just encountered? A sharp gust of wind, filled with murderous intent, swept past him from behind, interrupting his thoughts and startling him.
He swiftly dodged, extending his arm to grab the whip that lashed at him. The whip snapped back like a Spirit Snake. He turned abruptly to see a petite figure standing solemnly about five meters away.
Through his night vision, he noted her dark and cold appearance; her complexion was pale, devoid of the warm breath of humanity. Strangely, however, Xiao Qiang sensed her blood...
Vampires were a peculiar and alternative race. They possessed a physical form equivalent to humans, complete with organs, hair, and blood. The only difference was that they lacked the most basic life characteristic of humans—metabolism!
The human body is a vast cellular conglomerate, composed of countless cells that engage in continuous chemical reactions at an astonishing speed in a watery environment under the influence of enzymes. By repeatedly inhaling beneficial substances, accumulating energy and waste, and releasing energy, humans maintain their living state.
Vampires, on the other hand, were different. They had the same cellular structure but lacked the same chemical reactions and transformations of matter and energy. Countless cells existed in a completely static state. From a human perspective, this stillness could be seen as a form of lifelessness.
However, Xiao Qiang felt that this theoretical stillness was different from ordinary cell death. When regular cells die, they lose the ability to retain matter and energy—like a destroyed warehouse that can no longer store items; everything within it is obliterated. In contrast, these static cells resembled sealed warehouses; they could neither store nor retrieve items but preserved what had been stored before their stillness. This might explain why vampires do not grow or age.
Yet every vampire must undergo a process of death. In this world, the existence of life seemed like an invisible shackle—an unbreakable bond that tightly restrained human spiritual power.
In other words, to achieve immortality and unlock humanity's vast potential spiritual power, one must first be mentally prepared to end their original life. This is the fundamental process through which humans evolve into immortal vampires.
But what stood before him was a Female Vampire—not one evolved into immortality but one who possessed this state due to innate genetic traits. Xiao Qiang sensed this from her blood and was secretly astonished while remaining vigilant.
Fortunately, he had hidden a time machine by the river; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to confront this Female Vampire wholeheartedly. The origins of the Female Vampire were mysterious; in his understanding, vampires were typically products of mutation and evolution. Yet this one seemed different—she appeared to be a result of hereditary genetics as described in legends.
Xiao Qiang observed the whip in the hands of the Female Vampire. It was unique, with a blade at the end. If it struck him, it would surely leave deep wounds.
Meanwhile, the Female Vampire was also studying the handsome yet strangely imposing man before her. He was definitely not an ordinary human, nor was he a member of the vampire clan, and he had no connection to werewolves at all.
As she gazed toward the eastern horizon where dawn was breaking, the Female Vampire felt a sense of urgency; the sun was about to rise, and she could not afford to delay any longer. She turned and ran swiftly, leaving Xiao Qiang bewildered as he wondered why she was fleeing. Suddenly, he saw her turn back and leap onto a tall horse.
A vampire on horseback! She cracked her whip like a skilled wrangler, aiming it at Xiao Qiang.
With a blade on the whip, Xiao Qiang knew he couldn't just stand there and take it. He dodged to the side but missed his grab. The Female Vampire urged her horse forward, charging at him.
You scoundrel! Trying to trample me with your horse? Xiao Qiang spun around, his form shifting rapidly…
If Xiao Qiang continued to fight this Female Vampire, it was uncertain who would win. However, a third party unexpectedly entered the scene, causing a subtle shift in the situation.
A barely perceptible sense of danger spread from all directions. Both Xiao Qiang and the Female Vampire sensed this information simultaneously, halting their attacks and movements. They strained their ears to listen to the sounds of heavy breathing and rustling from the forest.
Xiao Qiang had never witnessed a werewolf pack in action, so he lacked that primal fear. In an instant, he caught a glimpse of tension flash across the Female Vampire's face.
If even this powerful vampire showed signs of anxiety, then whatever creature was about to pounce must be terrifying. Xiao Qiang quickly shifted his stance, every cell in his body poised for action.
Suddenly, the Female Vampire's steed reared up in fright, whinnying loudly. At that moment, a robust and agile Wolf Shadow burst from the underbrush, launching itself toward her mount.
The Female Vampire swung her long whip, releasing waves of lethal intent like phosphorescent light. The first werewolf to charge met the blade-whip with a howl but did not retreat; whether it was starving or seeking revenge, it pressed on relentlessly. It seemed that the Female Vampire was about to meet her doom in the jaws of the werewolf.
Xiao Qiang launched into the air, extending his strong arms to embrace the Female Vampire who had previously lashed out at him, lifting her off the Ground.
The werewolf howled in frustration, pounding its chest and baring its sharp, chilling teeth! As the werewolf's howl echoed through the night, countless robust Wolf Shadows burst forth from the forest.
The Female Vampire did not resist Xiao Qiang's rescue; once he lifted her, she kept her gaze fixed on his gray-brown eyes.
The transformation of the werewolf was triggered by the full moon, and tonight's moon was particularly round—the Blood Red Full Moon—slowly sinking behind the clouds. The Ground fell silent as the Female Vampire's mount had been devoured by the werewolf; her cold gaze turned toward her distant home.
This was how Xiao Qiang came to know Cold Star. If he had known that his actions here would lead to peril, he would not have gone out of his way to save this Female Vampire.
Everyone is but a fleeting existence in this world, emerging from nothing and destined to return to nothing. Nothing and no one can change that; solitude is his fate, and perhaps meeting Cold Star was also part of that fate!
Initially, Xiao Qiang was filled with curiosity about Cold Star's identity. Saving her was merely a way to bridge their distance, allowing him to better understand her past and future.
