The "darkness" here is not the natural night but a suffocating symbol of a specific era. The "black" is also the result of stifling light; thus, the night becomes the grave of illumination, and evil begins from this moment.
On the large screen in Matt's monitoring room, a point of light that had been missing for quite some time suddenly appeared, gathering around a heat-emitting flying object. He put on the Nano Tracker display, activated the screen expansion, and zoomed in on the suspicious object being tracked.
"Damn it—it's transformed," Matt cursed.
Yun raised a finger to his lips. "Shh! Didn't you want to protect him?"
"I do want to protect him, but during the outbreak of the V2 Zombie Virus, everyone in the country is searching for him. His blood..." Matt's face turned grim as he paused and whispered, "Unless he burrows underground or goes to the Post-Century."
"This isn't the time for lamenting our fate. The question is, what should we do?" Yun said anxiously.
"We can't go; we're too conspicuous. Let's hope no one discovers the secret in his Capillary," Matt said, pacing back and forth impatiently while occasionally glancing at the large screen. "What does he want to do now?"
"Unpredictable," Yun shook his head helplessly. "Ever since you injected him with Nanobots, I can no longer foresee his actions."
"That's magnetic interference. But never mind, could you step outside for a moment? I need to think."
"Alright, I'll go check on the kids."
"Go ahead! Don't mention this to Wu Yi and the others."
"Understood."
Matt turned back to the large screen; it seemed there was still a dark shadow at the front of the point of light. He zoomed in again... Hiss~ hiss~ hiss! It was not electromagnetic noise but rather magnetic interference from that unknown dark creature.
The large screen completely crashed, going black! Matt slammed his fist against the frame. "God, are you being held captive or pursuing something with intent?"
Lin Yu frantically searched for Xiao Qiang everywhere—the bathroom, basement, rooftop—nothing. He was gone. After searching back and forth several times, even the last lingering scent in the air vanished in an instant.
He had begun to suspect Matt. Was it he who had taken Xiao Qiang away? Or had the brutal madmen kidnapped him because they knew he was a carrier of the V2 virus? Without further ado, he drove out onto the street to look.
The dark streets were no different from during the day; everyone was on edge due to the outbreak of the V2 virus. No one wanted to risk their lives by appearing on the desolate streets, leaving themselves vulnerable to those sadistic madmen seeking thrills.
The car sped down the road without a sign of Xiao Qiang. Lin Yu once again helplessly leaned over the steering wheel, crying. Just then, a call came through, and he answered it with a glimmer of hope.
"Hi, darling, how are you?" It was M's voice.
He struggled to control his emotions, taking a deep breath, but couldn't hide the sob in his tone as he replied, "Not so good."
"What happened? Is something wrong?"
"He's gone."
"Xiao Qiang is gone?" M sounded surprised.
"Yes, I woke up and he was gone."
"Should we come see you? Or maybe you could come here?"
"No, I need to keep looking."
"Darling, relax. He's an adult... you understand what I mean?"
"Yeah."
"How about we go to New World Maldives Bar? Where are you right now?"
"In the Imperial Capital Avenue Film and Television City."
"Alright, we'll wait for you there."
M and Luo Wei went to pick up Lin Yu at the New World Maldives Bar. The bar was owned by a Maldivian, and the Dhivehi are one of the ethnic groups from the South Asian subcontinent, residing in the Indian subcontinent region.
Guests entering the Maldives bar came from all corners of the world, with no distinction of nationality. Inside, there were Egyptian beauties performing belly dances, along with other women of various skin tones and nationalities.
Luo Wei showed no interest in these robotic beauties; a drink and a conversation helped ease Lin Yu's troubled emotions.
"What do you think he will do?"
"I don't know." Lin Yu couldn't reveal much and had to bear the pressure alone.
"It's strange; I always feel like he's quite unconventional," Luo Wei expressed his thoughts about Xiao Qiang.
"He's very reclusive, with almost no friends in real life. His former companions have all gone their separate ways, busy with their own lives..."
"I understand that, but if he hasn't gone out, how could anything happen? Either he chose to leave you," Luo Wei said this and suddenly realized it might upset someone again.
Lin Yu forced a bitter smile, playing with her wine glass using her slender fingers, showing no intention of bringing it to her lips. "It's all my fault; I didn't truly consider him."
"Hey, N! Don't be too hard on yourself, okay? Not everything is your fault," M seemed to empathize with Lin Yu and felt sorry for her current situation.
Luo Wei gentlemanly raised his glass, the purple liquid swaying inside. "To our friendship, cheers! To Xiao Qiang's safety, cheers!"
"Thank you, but I think I should head back now." Lin Yu pursed her lips into a bitter smile; the faint taste of alcohol left her feeling somewhat sour.
M and Luo Wei both understood the pain she felt, yet they were powerless to help.
Choosing one person meant choosing a way of life, and that meant one would inevitably pay attention to the actions of the person they had chosen. This was Lin Yu's private life, and no one could take the place of the person she held dear, not even M.
Thus, they agreed to meet up when Xiao Qiang returned home, and then parted ways to head back home.
Lin Yu was unwilling to lose track of Xiao Qiang. Caught in a whirlwind of conflicting emotions, she impulsively considered reaching out to Matt multiple times. In the end, she dismissed those impulsive thoughts; he was not an irresponsible person. How could he casually abandon his loving partner? She refused to believe it… and was reluctant to accept it.
Her mind was in turmoil, a nameless anguish settled over her, loneliness and despair once again etched on her delicate features. The car drove itself forward as she lost track of time, closing her eyes as Xiao Qiang's shadow flickered in her mind, growing more chaotic with each passing moment! It seemed she had arrived home; opening her eyes… there was light in the living room window!!! Had he returned? Or had he simply forgotten to turn off the lights in his rush earlier?
Entering the house, Lin Yu was stunned by the scene before her. There were bloodstains on the living room floor, and sounds came from the bathroom. She shouted, "Xiao Qiang!" her voice sharp and nearly frantic as she stumbled toward the door, pushing it open with force—bang!
Xiao Qiang was covered in blood, a knife placed on the sink, feathers scattered across the floor.
Seeing him there, Lin Yu exclaimed in a mix of joy and sorrow, her expression filled with doubt. Under his panicked gaze, she cautiously stepped inside.
"I didn't kill anything," Xiao Qiang said, seemingly trying to cover something up, his nervousness evident as he spoke deliberately to Lin Yu.
