Xiao Qiang was still a bit confused and uneasy about the seemingly ordinary guitar case, wondering how a set of movable Arabic numeral keys on it could possibly send him back to the year 2050.
Han Ming couldn't guarantee anything, but he hoped Xiao Qiang would be willing to give it a try.
"What? You don't even know if it will work, and you're asking me to try?" Xiao Qiang exclaimed, his eyes wide with disbelief. "What if it fails? What am I supposed to do then?"
"Uh," Han Ming's face flushed slightly, feeling a bit awkward. "It would be better if you sacrificed yourself; that way, you won't be trying to hit on my girlfriend."
"Come on, are you serious? Can I really trust you on this?" Xiao Qiang replied incredulously.
"How would we know unless we try?" Han Ming countered.
"This is the password key?" Xiao Qiang pointed with his finger, casually glancing at Fang Shanshan, who had been silent beside them. "If I disappear in front of you two, would you even look for me?"
Han Ming struggled to suppress his laughter and replied meaningfully, "Well, I certainly wouldn't be looking for you."
"Han Ming, is this thing really reliable?" Fang Shanshan nudged Han Ming with her elbow and asked in a low voice.
"..." Han Ming feigned annoyance and said, "What does a woman know about these things?"
"Thanks for your concern, beautiful," Xiao Qiang grinned mischievously and deliberately provoked Han Ming. "Isn't it said that beautiful women love heroes? How about Shanshan joins me for the test?"
"Are you trying to get yourself killed? Don't even think about it," Han Ming said as he activated the password key and entered the time Xiao Qiang had specified: 2050, 3, 4, 14:35. Then he shoved the box into Xiao Qiang's arms with a wicked grin. "Not my problem."
As the box was thrust into his hands, Xiao Qiang instinctively caught it. The moment he embraced the box, he felt a shiver run through his entire body.
The feeling of dizziness was unlike the swirling black hole energy of the Reincarnation Card; Xiao Qiang felt as if he had just awakened from a dream. As he came to, he found himself inexplicably sitting on a sofa, still holding the box in his arms.
Looking around, the environment was meticulously arranged, and it seemed like someone was standing guard outside. At first glance, it didn’t appear to be a military camp but rather the office of a military or political official.
Suddenly, the closed mahogany office door swung open from within, and someone stepped out. Xiao Qiang froze, thinking that perhaps these people couldn’t see him. But unexpectedly!
“Wildfire, the commander requests your presence.”
Xiao Qiang was taken aback and looked up. The person addressing him was tall with fair skin, resembling a delicate young man, somewhat like a guard.
“You’re calling me?” he asked, pointing at himself.
“Yes, I’m calling you.”
Xiao Qiang was puzzled. How could someone from this era know his nickname? He hesitated, wondering who he was about to meet.
“Hurry up! You were just anxious to see the general; why are you not in a hurry now?”
“Just now, did you get my name wrong?” Xiao Qiang felt flustered and didn’t know how to explain the sequence of events clearly.
“Go on! The general has many matters to attend to. If you weren’t a War Correspondent, you wouldn’t have such easy access to him.”
“What? War Correspondent?” Xiao Qiang was thoroughly confused by this person in front of him. Could it be that Han Ming had set this all up? Had he assigned an identity to him? It seemed impossible upon reflection.
If he had to go, then so be it. At this point, he could only muster his courage and see what kind of deity this general truly was.
On the snow-white walls hung incomprehensible oil paintings, and the bookshelf was heavy with books. On the spacious redwood desk, a simple pen holder held one red and one blue pen. Standing by the window on the gleaming, polished redwood floor was a man with broad shoulders and a sturdy build, exuding an air of solemn righteousness.
Xiao Qiang knew that this man must be a general.
As he entered the office, he felt a bit nervous. The general turned abruptly to face Xiao Qiang upon hearing someone enter.
The general's gaze was deep and distant, his thoughts complex and shifting. He occasionally regarded Xiao Qiang with a cold and shadowy look. At first glance, this general possessed an aura that commanded respect and an unshakeable authority.
"Wildfire?"
Puzzled, Xiao Qiang silently pondered his chaotic questions. He respectfully replied, "Yes."
"Metal Slut, is this your report?"
"Metal Slut?" The general's words completely stumped Xiao Qiang. He tentatively responded, "Is there a problem?"
"Well, not at the moment, but I need you to conduct an on-site investigation."
"What do you mean?"
The general stepped behind the desk and gestured to the leather chair opposite him. "Sit down and talk."
"Metal Slut has made significant contributions, but new challenges have raised some concerns. I hope you can go and investigate in person, and report back to us about the frontline situation as soon as possible."
"Go to the battlefield? Who am I fighting?" Xiao Qiang wondered if he had come to the wrong place. However, when the general mentioned Metal Slut, it sounded familiar, as if he had heard it somewhere before or perhaps had mentioned it himself at some point.
"Bionic Alien, you previously reported on the heroic deeds of Metal Slut. How could you not remember? Why are you asking me, General?"
The general's voice turned authoritative, his gaze sharp as he stared directly at Xiao Qiang. "Kid, you are completely enjoying a life that someone your age shouldn't be living."
Xiao Qiang felt a flush of embarrassment! Wasn't it true? His girlfriend Lin Yu was currently missing, and he had no idea what era he was in. Lost in thought, he began to zone out.
The general's eyes were fixed on him like a hawk. He tapped his fingers on the desk. "Hey, young man, speak to me and don't zone out."
"Uh!" Xiao Qiang panicked for a moment and suddenly blurted out, "I can't agree to that; I still have some important personal matters to handle." He wanted to return to Han Ming's time to clarify what was going on and whether there was an issue with the time control device.
The general ignored his insolence and showed no intention of stopping him, merely observing coldly.
As soon as Xiao Qiang pulled open the two large doors of the office, armed soldiers rushed in from the corridor. He quickly stepped back and turned to the general. "What is this?"
The general slowly lifted his eyelids and coldly glanced at him. "If you can walk out that door, I'll abandon my plan to send you to the battlefield."
Xiao Qiang broke into a cold sweat. Faced with several armed soldiers, there was only one path available for escape. Without his Ability, how could he possibly rush out? Wait!!! Suddenly, he remembered that his arm had been injured in 2038; why didn't he feel any pain? In a moment of contemplation, he secretly raised his injured arm but felt no pain at all. A sense of relief washed over him, and he was secretly delighted yet puzzled: Could it be?
