The man on the fence noticed Lin Yu's distressed expression. With a dirty neck stretching out long, he stood on tiptoe, leaning over the fence and repeatedly asked, "Are you okay?"
Seeing that Lin Yu ignored him, his body hunched over in discomfort like a shrimp, he began to vomit a pool of clear water. He hurriedly reassured her, "It's nothing serious. It feels like this at first, but you'll get used to it. Eventually, you'll even find the taste authentic and addictive."
Noticing that this person spoke clearly and appeared calm, without any signs of madness on his face, Lin Yu thought to herself that she had to subdue him and extract the secret of the broth. Perhaps he was just trying to scare her with exaggerated claims. With this in mind, Lin Yu lay down, pretending to be in great pain, and softly groaned... accidentally knocking over a clay pot with a crash! The pot shattered into several pieces, and the remaining broth spilled all over the ground.
As expected, the weird man fell for it. He couldn't let this woman, who could bear children and continue his lineage, come to harm. Thinking this way, he quickly grabbed the rope hanging from the pot and slid down, leaning in to ask, "Are you okay?"
The foul odor emanating from him made Lin Yu feel an urge to die. However, she held back... Just as he was half a foot away from her, she seized the opportunity and struck decisively, using a shard of pottery to press against his carotid artery while whispering harshly, "Take me out of here."
The man who claimed to be a chef never expected that this seemingly weak woman possessed such strong willpower and cunning. In an instant, he had fallen into her trap...
Lin Yu straightened up, her gaze sharp as she pressed against his carotid artery with intensity. She said sternly, "In your eyes as men, women are merely tools for reproduction. But that's not true. So don't provoke a woman lightly..."
"…Lady, let me go. I'll show you the stored meat..." At this moment, all he had left were those pieces of human flesh he couldn't bear to eat.
"Shut up; stop disgusting me. If it were in the past era, you would deserve a thousand cuts..."
The scruffy-looking weird man listened to Lin Yu's words and then carefully examined her attire with a puzzled expression before muttering, "What year is it now?"
"2050..."
The man was taken aback and mumbled to himself, "2050... 2018." After saying this, he began counting on his fingers. His expression was one of shock; his gaze was lost as he took stiff steps toward the exit and said slowly, "It's been 32 years. I've been trapped here for 32 years."
Weird Man, at the age of fifty-one, was known only by his nickname, "Chef," thanks to his exceptional cooking skills. He had long forgotten where he came from, claiming he hadn't returned home since he left. The last time he saw the sky was on a beautiful night filled with twinkling stars. Eventually, he found himself in this place with a group of petty criminals, trying to evade the police after one of their own had committed a serious crime.
It was rumored to be a robbery and murder.
This band of outlaws had heard whispers of treasure on a deserted island. Seizing the opportunity to escape their pursuers, they decided to dig for the treasure together.
However, after digging a massive hole and entering the Stratum, they discovered there was no treasure to be found. Instead, they stumbled upon a palace-like spaceship filled with strange writings and an overwhelming number of pipes and passages, resembling a labyrinth that seemed impossible to escape.
Under the leadership of their boss, they slept during the day and ventured out at night to steal food from the Ground base. They lost track of time until one day, a group of well-dressed men and women arrived, seemingly educated and accompanied by guards who stationed themselves at every exit.
The Chef and his companions were terrified, mistaking them for police and refraining from any rash actions. They quietly observed and soon realized it wasn't what they thought. However, they were puzzled by what these newcomers were training for; it looked like they were acting in a play, but it felt all too real. Scenes of people brutally killing each other unfolded before them in a gruesome display.
Later on, things took a turn for the worse when a Skeleton Monster appeared. The creature devoured many people, and those who couldn't escape were left terrified, hiding within their enclosure. They assumed that once the monster had eaten enough, it would leave. But the monster showed no signs of departing, trapping them inside.
A year passed with dwindling supplies. Twenty or so people exchanged fearful glances daily, living in constant dread while enduring hunger and remaining vigilant against monster attacks.
The leader attempted to send a group out but was chased back by the creature. In desperation, they decided to send out someone brave and cautious to scout ahead. However, those who ventured out vanished without a trace; not one returned. When the third batch of three set out to find an escape route, it remained unclear whether they had fled or been consumed by the monster. Regardless, their leader never sent anyone out again.
Eventually, the leader ceased forcing anyone to search for an exit and planned to consume their remaining food first. Secretly, he instructed the Chef to dispose of some burdensome members who couldn't keep up. When everyone woke up one day, he claimed that those sent out had gone missing.
The leader conspired with the Chef to store excess meat for gradual consumption... Initially, their stomachs rejected it, leading to bouts of vomiting. But gradually they adapted; not eating became impossible.
Lin Yu interrupted the Chef's tale: "So later on, you ended up eating your leader too?"
The chef's dark gaze flickered as he said, "I haven't even had a chance to eat before running into you."
"Are you really that cruel?" Lin Yu pieced together from his fragmented explanations that this group of chefs were actually bandits. Those scientists, disguised as humans and pretending to conduct research, were nothing more than robbers. The owner of this spaceship might very well have met their end at one of their hands; otherwise, these horrifying events wouldn't have unfolded.
Holding a shard of tile, she seriously considered stabbing him in the neck to let him bleed out.
The chef let out a low cry, pleading, "Miss, I promise I won't offend you again. Please, just let me go this once..."
A scream from not far away interrupted his pleas. He looked around nervously and anxiously. Then he whispered again, "Miss, let me go! There's a monster that eats people coming; neither of us will escape."
Lin Yu glanced ahead and then behind her. She thought to herself: rather than killing him, it would be better to let those Skeleton Mutants have him; carrying him along was just a burden.
Thinking this, she decided to release him and took off running. Suddenly, a sharp killing intent sliced through the air behind her. Hearing the commotion, she turned to see the chef wielding a bone knife, having decisively severed the head of a Winged Skeleton Mutant that lunged at her.
The head of the Skeleton Mutant, now evolved into its Bat form with bulging eyes, sprayed foul blood as it rolled to Lin Yu's feet. She remained expressionless, not even lifting her eyelids, and with a symbolic nod murmured, "Thank you." With a push against the ground, she dashed away swiftly in search of Xiao Qiang and Wen Kai.
