In just a second, Li Hang was so startled that his calves cramped and sweat poured down his face. If it weren't for Xiao Qiang grabbing him just in time, he would have lost his meal along with his body. 0

As the control room's Gate closed, there was a sharp sound followed by a loud clang, the harsh noise of metal colliding. The three of them were stunned, and when they focused their eyes, they saw a heavy Steel Bar wedged into the Gate. At the same time, Xiao Qiang caught a glimpse of the creature attacking them through the gap in the door that had not yet closed; it was a skeletal figure that seemed alive—a Mutant. 0

The skeleton stood two feet tall, and its appearance could only be described in four words: clawing and terrifying. Its face looked as if a layer of skin had been peeled away, revealing capillaries that resembled wriggling earthworms clinging to a grotesque visage. 0

Because it had missed grabbing Li Hang, the Skeleton Mutant opened its gaping mouth and let out a piercing screech towards the gap in the door. 0

Without hesitation, Xiao Qiang raised his arm and fired a Flame Projectile. With a thunderous boom, the Skeleton Mutant seemed to sense danger. In that split second when the Flame Projectile was launched, it pulled away the Steel Bar—just as the Flame Projectile shot out. 0

In an instant, all three held their breath, anxiously watching the fiery projectile soar through the air. Their hearts raced. If the Gate closed before the Flame Projectile reached a safe distance, Xiao Qiang would have truly made a foolish mistake—the Laser Flame Gun was powerful; if it hit the Gate, which was made of bulletproof steel with a density of one hundred percent and a thickness of fifty-two centimeters, it wouldn't penetrate but would rebound back into the control room. 0

In slow motion—the Skeleton Mutant pulled away the Steel Bar—three pairs of eyes were fixed on the rapidly approaching Flame Projectile—then came a deafening bang as it miraculously shot past their line of sight just as the Gate closed. Boom! An explosion followed. 0

The three looked as if they had just survived a bullfight. Apart from their heavy breathing, beads of sweat covered their foreheads and faces. In slow motion, one could clearly see Xiao Qiang's sweat rolling down his face, creating a vivid scene as it dripped from his pores with faint ticking sounds. Then came a sigh of relief; they all exhaled deeply. 0

"What on earth was that?" Wu Yi asked, his face turning pale and his expression tense. After that moment of anxiety, he felt utterly drained and collapsed into a chair beside the control room Monitor. 0

"Probably some monster that wanted to snack on us," Li Hang said nonchalantly, trying to act unfazed. But his heart was still racing. 0

Xiao Qiang remained silent; his taut nerves had yet to relax. He stepped cautiously toward the door, straining to listen for any sounds outside—though it was futile; the Gate was soundproof. 0

He turned back and wiped away cold sweat. Uneasy, he said, "This isn't just some baseless rumor. This Supernatural entity possesses human-like thoughts, consciousness, and intellect—far more troublesome than Living Dead creatures. It's quite powerful; don't let your guard down." 0

“Afraid of birds? Are we really unable to handle a skeleton?” Li Hang said confidently, without a hint of shame. 0

Wu Yi remained silent, still gripped by fear and not in the mood for conversation. 0

Xiao Qiang casually glanced at his watch; it had been nearly an hour since he lost contact with Lin Yu. They were currently trapped in the control room and needed to establish communication with her quickly to prevent her from worrying too much. The control room was sealed, and relying solely on his watch for connection was impossible. They needed to repair the control room's communication equipment to regain connectivity. 0

“Until we have confirmed facts, we shouldn't underestimate the situation,” he said, leaning closer to the Gate once more, always trying to catch any sound. His cautious movements only heightened Wu Yi's anxiety. 0

“Did you hear anything?” Wu Yi's voice trembled. To be honest, when it came time for battle, he would definitely charge to the front lines. But before the fight began, he experienced an instinctive fear—an anxiety rooted in a subconscious fear of combat. 0

Li Hang thought Xiao Qiang was being overly cautious; he was uninterested in what was happening outside and began working on restoring the electromagnetic connection. 0

After a while of busying themselves, the three took a break and found themselves staring intently at the Gate in unison. 0

Xiao Qiang let out a heavy sigh. “We can't always remain on the defensive, can we?” 0

“What do you want to do?” Wu Yi and Li Hang asked in unison. Their sweat had dried in the waiting silence, and their hearts had calmed considerably as they waited quietly. 0

Xiao Qiang furrowed his brow, deep in thought—then suddenly looked up, his gaze firm as he spoke each word with conviction: “We need to take the initiative…” 0

The Gate slowly opened, and they watched with tense anticipation. They expected that when the Gate opened fully, the Skeleton Mutant would appear naturally. Then they would unceremoniously raise their Flame Laser Guns and send it packing back to where it came from. 0

In reality, when the Gate finally opened, it was eerily quiet outside. The skeleton seemed as if it had never been there at all; just a trail of blood marked its passing about a meter away from the Gate, with nothing else in sight… 0

Seeing the bloodstains, Xiao Qiang's heart skipped a beat for no apparent reason. He suddenly blurted out, "Where's Wen Kai?" 0

"He's... dead!" Brainless Wu Yi looked at Xiao Qiang in surprise, not understanding why he suddenly brought up a member who was already gone. 0

Li Hang seemed to grasp what Xiao Qiang meant. Without having time to say much, he hurried to check the hidden body of Wen Kai— 0

Sure enough, Wen Kai's body was missing. This was yet another heavy blow that left the three of them bewildered. 0

"Damn it, that damn skeleton is eating the living and now it wants to eat the dead too?" Li Hang said jokingly, unintentionally cursing. 0

Thinking of the Skeleton Mutant's sharp, knife-like teeth that could tear through their skin and devour their organs, coupled with Li Hang's words, Wu Yi felt a chill run down his spine and shivered uncontrollably. 0

However, Xiao Qiang thought of something else—an unbelievable yet unavoidable fact. The skeleton had used Wen Kai's body as bait to lure them into searching for it. If that was the case... 0

They couldn't leave Wen Kai's body behind here; even if they had to leave, they needed to bring him back to Ground. This was not just Xiao Qiang's thought but also a shared desire of Wu Yi and Li Hang. 0

Next, Xiao Qiang made arrangements: Wu Yi and Li Hang would stay in the control room to investigate the malfunction in the Monitor system and restore contact with Ground as quickly as possible while he went alone to search for Wen Kai's body. 0
