The room was a complete mess, and the Monitors had become the most luxurious decorations, rendered useless due to lack of power. The Voice Simulator could activate automatically because of the magnetic fields and bioelectricity generated by the five of them when they entered the Heart Zone. Unintentionally, it triggered the simulated female voice sensor to greet them with a sweet welcome.
As their bioelectric energy began to deplete, the simulated female voice lost its basic activation function. No matter how Wen Kai tapped at it, it simply wouldn’t continue to engage him politely.
Wu Yi and Li Hang felt exhilarated and stimulated; upon entering the Heart Chamber, they had long forgotten their previous discomfort and fear. They explored eagerly, their eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Xiao Qiang bent down, looking at the colorful buttons, instinctively reaching out to press them, hoping for a miracle… Ultimately, he left in disappointment and moved to another Monitor, nervously continuing to press buttons. After a series of crackling sounds, the Monitor remained a dull gray.
Lin Yu sighed, “Can’t any of these be activated?”
Xiao Qiang stood there for a long time with his palms forming an '8' shape as he held his chin, deep in thought. Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck him as he recalled the Micro Robot that had appeared at the door. “Got it.”
“What?” Lin Yu asked just as Xiao Qiang dashed out.
“Crazy,” Wu Yi scoffed.
“A unique oddball,” Li Hang flattered Wen Kai.
“Pfft, guess what he’s up to?” Wen Kai feigned shock.
“Shut up, all three of you. If you can get these Monitors activated, I’ll admit you’re not just wasting time gossiping behind people’s backs,” Lin Yu snapped. His words caught Wen Kai's attention. He shot her a meaningful glance and said in a drawn-out tone, “Yu Yu, I’m curious. You used to be on my side; how come you’ve changed so much? Always defending this oddball—did he give you something?”
“Shut your mouth! At this moment, we should unite and think about how to survive and complete the mission assigned by headquarters. Who has time for your nonsense? Wake up!” Lin Yu retorted angrily before storming out of the Heart Chamber to see what Xiao Qiang was doing.
“Yay…” Wen Kai made an obscene gesture behind Lin Yu's back, sticking out his tongue exaggeratedly… He showcased his talent in front of his two close friends. His long tongue could even lick his own nose…
“Boss, that’s really disgusting; look at all that spit…” Seeing that his friend was displeased, Li Hang quickly changed the subject and dared not say more.
Xiao Qiang was indeed fiddling with the Micro Robot. On the ground lay the robot's round head and arms; despite having only two fingers, one should not underestimate those claw-like digits—they could easily crush any human bone.
The disassembled robot was truly unimpressive. It looked like a pile of scrap metal, but Xiao Qiang thought otherwise. He carefully organized the wires and resistors, holding a handful of blue, black, red, green, and white wires. There were three main types of circuit faults: short circuits, open circuits, and high-resistance faults.
"Do you understand this stuff?"
"Inherent talent."
"Ah, how narcissistic!"
"Call it what you want..." Xiao Qiang was too busy to care, his mind focused entirely on repairing the robot. He swiftly connected the wires and secured them in the back of the robot before closing the protective cover. He began the startup process...
Finally, it powered on successfully. The robot's round head blinked with two beams of infrared light—its eyes. A rectangular opening about 3.3 centimeters long on its chest glowed with a blue light—its heart. As the heart activated, its claw-like fingers twitched, followed by movement in its arms.
"Wow, you're amazing." Lin Yu smiled brightly and impulsively kissed Xiao Qiang. He was momentarily stunned by the unexpected kiss, feeling a bit dazed. Lin Yu seemed to realize her action was a bit abrupt; a blush crept onto her fair face as she lowered her head and hurried away.
With Lin Yu gone, Xiao Qiang felt more at ease to explore...
"Ouch! That hurts," came a youthful and melodious voice from the robot. As it spoke, a buzzing sound of electricity filled the air.
"Pfft. Do you even know what pain is?"
The robot waved its arms and spun its round head. After scanning Xiao Qiang with its eyes, various information entered its database. After careful filtering and confirming that he was one of their own, it spoke again: "Xiao Qiang, male, hormone levels normal. Age eighteen, height one hundred seventy-two centimeters. Black hair, yellow skin, personality grade A."
Xiao Qiang smiled at the robot and gently grasped its claw-like fingers. "Hello! Thank you for your high evaluation of me. Now tell me, what is your name?"
"Amy."
"Amy, do you know what happened here?"
Beeping sounds echoed as the robot turned its round head as if searching for relevant data. After a moment, a flash of blue light appeared on its chest. "Scared... scared," it uttered before suddenly shutting down.
Xiao Qiang panicked and hugged its round head, shouting, "Amy, wake up!" It seemed that the scientists who had initially settled on the isolated island had been prepared for any potential dangers to the base, equipping the robot with two automatic shutdown functions.
Can a robot without consciousness feel fear? This was a novel concept that Xiao Qiang had never encountered before. He resolved to uncover the reason behind the robot's fear.
He pressed the button again, activating manual mode. A flash of light appeared in Amy's round head, and it buzzed back to life, saying, "Amy wants to rest, hibernation." Amy pouted childishly.
"Amy can't rest; you must help your companions."
"Understood, please give instructions." Amy became serious, resembling a Sentinel.
To prevent it from shutting down again, Xiao Qiang decided to steer clear of the previous topic. He engaged in casual conversation, tossing around various topics before finally asking, "What is this place? I really want to know." As he spoke, he led the way forward, guiding the sliding robot into the Heart Chamber under the astonished gazes of Lin Yu and Wen Kai.
"DBL6 Experimental Base."
"Can you tell me where our friends have gone?" Xiao Qiang cautiously broached the subject, mentally preparing himself for the robot to shut down again. To his surprise, it not only remained active but continued to respond in its programmed manner: "They have left."
"What does 'left' mean?" Xiao Qiang asked, staring at the still gray display screen and casually pressing for more information.
