Xiao Qiang did not step back. With a furrowed brow, he took a brave step forward and earnestly said, "Sir, we are newcomers and there are many things we are not accustomed to. Please bear with us. If we make any mistakes in our speech, I hope you can overlook them and give us a chance, alright?"
The Eye Patch Man's fierce gaze lingered on Xiao Qiang's face for several seconds, his mouth emitting a growl as if venting his anger. The grip on Wen Kai's collar slowly loosened.
Wen Kai, feeling relieved, scurried away from the Eye Patch Man like a mouse. He left Xiao Qiang and Lin Yu behind and joined his buddies, swallowing hard and no longer daring to speak out of turn.
With a sullen expression, the Eye Patch Man had beads of sweat forming on his forehead after his earlier outburst. Under the light, his greasy face looked uncomfortable, resembling a slick human mask.
The Eye Patch Man did not continue to make things difficult for them; instead, he quickly laid out the tablecloth and brought in the food. He gestured for them to start eating before stepping out alone.
Wen Kai, still shaken, nervously watched the Eye Patch Man's retreating figure and swallowed another mouthful of saliva that had been lingering in his mouth for a long time. Only then did he slowly join his two friends at the table to eat.
Faced with the rather lavish spread of food, no one dared to touch their utensils to start eating. They sat like wooden statues at the table, filled with suspicion as they exchanged glances at the food in front of them.
Xiao Qiang lowered his eyes and said to Lin Yu, "What are you afraid of? Just eat..."
Lin Yu looked worriedly around and leaned closer to whisper, "I feel something is off. Are we on a pirate ship?"
"Don't talk nonsense."
Wen Kai, already trembling with fear, felt even more anxious at their leader's words. "Should we leave quickly?"
"Where to?" Xiao Qiang and Lin Yu asked in unison.
"Shh, keep your voices down," Wu Yi said nervously as he glanced at the door, worry etched on his face.
"What are you afraid of? Just eat..." Xiao Qiang shrugged it off and picked up his utensils. The clinking sound of fork cutting through steak filled the air as a small piece of steak entered his mouth. Chewing with delight, he exclaimed, "Not bad! Authentic Western steak flavor. If only I had a glass of real Bloody Mary to go with it—now that would be wonderful! One word: utterly satisfying!"
Seeing Xiao Qiang enjoying his meal so much, Lin Yu couldn't sit still anymore and also picked up his utensils to eat. Soon after, Wen Kai followed suit along with Wu Yi and Li Hang.
The boat glided smoothly across the lake without any bumps as Xiao Qiang and the others enjoyed their meal. Just as they were having a good time eating, the Eye Patch Man rushed back in. Under their watchful eyes, he quickly emerged from inside carrying a new type of weapon—01CWG11.
Seeing this scene unfold, how could Xiao Qiang and the others continue eating in peace? They all gaped in shock, various speculations racing through their minds as they stared at the Eye Patch Man.
The Eye Patch Man casually glanced at them before nonchalantly exiting the cabin with the firearm in hand.
"Are we going to fight?" Among the five, Wu Yi was the most cowardly, always terrified to the point of nearly wetting his pants whenever a situation arose.
"I'll go take a look." Wen Kai loved excitement, his heart pounding with both thrill and fear. He had been itching to get a closer look at the new weapon that Eye Patch Man had just brought out. Unfortunately, his previous actions had offended him. Eye Patch Man seemed to have a strong sense of pride; otherwise, he wouldn't have treated Wen Kai so harshly.
"Maybe you shouldn't..." Xiao Qiang's attempt to stop him was undoubtedly like poking a hornet's nest.
"Shut up, what’s it to you?" Wen Kai was indeed not one to back down easily; he brushed off the friendly warning with a defiant wave of his fist.
Wen Kai left the dining table.
Lin Yu shot a disapproving glance at Wen Kai and quietly comforted Xiao Qiang.
Wu Yi and Li Hang followed after Wen Kai like eager little puppies, wanting to see the commotion.
Outside, muffled gunshots echoed, similar to the sound of a silencer. Though the noise was not loud, it startled Xiao Qiang and the others in the cabin.
It was said that this war had long ended; how could there still be fighting?
Wen Kai and the others dared not approach but instead huddled in a hidden spot, peeking out cautiously...
Xiao Qiang fidgeted restlessly and finally glanced at Lin Yu. "You stay here; I'm going to check it out."
As he reached the cabin door, he caught sight of Wen Kai and the others curled up together in a comical manner as they peered out. Suddenly, someone burst through the door with force.
Xiao Qiang nearly collided with Eye Patch Man, who looked terrified as if he had seen a ghost... mumbling incoherently, "Quick... close the door."
What was going on? He could talk? Xiao Qiang didn't have time to ask further and hurriedly pulled the cabin door shut with a loud thud.
Wen Kai, who had been crouched on the floor peeking without success, was astonished that Eye Patch Man could speak. He looked confused, unsure of what exactly Eye Patch Man was afraid of. However, it was clear that he had indeed fired those shots earlier.
Lin Yu, being a girl, felt a surge of panic as she saw Eye Patch Man looking so frightened. "What’s wrong?" she asked him, momentarily forgetting her manners in her urgency.
"Turn off the lights; turn off all the lights in the cabin," Eye Patch Man shouted hoarsely at Xiao Qiang, seemingly ignoring Lin Yu's question as he believed Xiao Qiang was braver than the others.
As dawn approached, the sky began to lighten with a faint glow. Wen Kai turned off the lights in the cabin, and the scene outside became vaguely visible. He leaned against the cabin door, arms crossed, closely observing the movements outside. He was curious—could someone as fierce as Eye Patch Man really be afraid? What was out there?
The cabin had several bulletproof polycarbonate windows. From their perspective, they could see clearly outside, but those outside could not see in. So when Wen Kai spotted heads slowly rising from the surface of the lake not far from the ship's edge, he nearly wet himself. He shuddered and forgot to scream, bolting away in a panic.
Except for Lin Yu, who was forcibly kept in his original seat, everyone else had moved closer to the cabin. Xiao Qiang also noticed the strange shadows when Wen Kai did.
To be more precise, these shadows emerging from the water were not mere shadows; they were 'people.' They wore matching dark glasses, their expressions blank and movements stiff and slow as they gradually pushed through the water towards their location.
Wu Yi and Li Hang were equally terrified when Wen Kai fled from the doorway. Their legs felt weak as they desperately followed their leader and sat down next to Lin Yu, anxious and uneasy.
"What are those things?" Xiao Qiang asked fearfully, his heart pounding in his chest yet unable to leave. He was closest to Eye Patch Man and whispered his question.
"Living Dead..." Eye Patch Man replied expressionlessly. It seemed he had experienced this situation countless times before; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to provide an answer so quickly.
Upon hearing that terrifying term, "Living Dead?" Xiao Qiang froze, images of the legends about the Living Dead devouring people flashing through his mind.
"They don't eat people; they just occupy your body..." Eye Patch Man seemed to read Xiao Qiang's thoughts and hurriedly explained.
