I quickened my pace, half walking and half running, until I reached the cliff at Yunpo Mountain.
Looking up, the towering cliff was dotted with jagged rocks, making it nearly impossible for an average person to climb. Even seasoned adventurers equipped with professional climbing gear would likely struggle to overcome it.
After surveying the area, I began searching around to see where the hidden entrance to the secret path was, the one that Mo Shu had shown me when I left.
However, after rummaging through the knee-high weeds for a while and feeling along the steep rock face, I still couldn't find the entrance to that secret passage.
"This is strange; it was right around here when I came. Why can't I find it now..." I muttered to myself in confusion, furrowing my brow and scratching the back of my head.
"Is it you?" A woman's voice suddenly came from behind me.
I turned around sharply and saw the woman who had argued with Li Zhisheng standing behind me, carrying a basket filled with unfamiliar leaves on her arm. "It's you..." I quickly replied, "I wanted to come back and check on my friends, but I can't find the way up. Could you take me up? Also, I've prepared some gifts for Mo Shu Old Senior and need you to call some people down; I can't carry everything by myself."
Upon hearing this, the woman nodded thoughtfully. "Alright then, wait here for me. I'll go up and tell my master and bring some people down. You can take them up with your things." Just as she was about to turn away, she paused and looked back at me. "Your friend is doing well; the one with glasses can already get out of bed and move around. The other one is out of danger too but is still a bit weak. You'll see when you go up." With that, she turned and walked towards the rock face.
"Really? That's great news! Thank you so much!" I exclaimed repeatedly while keeping my eyes fixed on her, thinking to myself that I wanted to see how she found this secret passage.
I watched as she approached the rock wall, pulled out a lighter and a short candle from her pocket. This candle was different from ordinary ones; it was semi-transparent and slightly yellowish. Under the sunlight, it had a smooth texture that resembled amber.
"A candle made from Ghost Oil?!" I whispered in astonishment. The woman didn't hear my murmurs; she lit the candle and used its light to search along the rock wall before pressing down on a recessed spot.
Suddenly, there was a rumbling sound as a two-meter-high crack appeared in the rock face before me. The stones on either side slowly began to part, revealing a hidden door after a moment.
The woman stepped into the secret chamber and casually pressed a switch inside, causing the door to close again. Once it was fully shut, there was no sign from outside that anything had changed. "So that's why I couldn't find the door; it was a hidden entrance using Ghost Oil," I realized.
I sat down on a stone in the haystack, a straw in my mouth, patiently waiting.
I didn't know how long I had been there when I heard the sound of the hidden door opening again behind me. Startled, I quickly got up and saw several strong middle-aged men stepping out of the secret passage, armed with Black Soldiers, standing before me with an imposing presence.
I was taken aback and thought to myself, "Aren't they here to help move things? Why do they look like they're ready for a fight, weapons in hand..."
"What are you all doing?" I asked, pointing at the Black Soldiers in their hands.
"Don't misunderstand. This is what the master instructed. Whenever we leave here, we must carry our weapons; it's become a habit for us," the leader said with a smile, appearing harmless.
"Junior sister sent us to help move things, but where are they?" another man looked around.
"They're not here; the vehicle is parked by the roadside. Follow me," I said as I led them to where the car was parked.
At that moment, the date seller was growing impatient, having opened the trunk and sitting beside it smoking a cigarette. Hu Fang and Death Apostle had also gotten out of the car and were chatting by the driver's side.
When Hu Fang saw me approaching from a distance, he waved eagerly. The date seller dropped his cigarette and stood up to look around.
Initially, the seller greeted me with a broad smile, but when he noticed several burly men following me with weapons in hand, his expression froze and turned pale.
I walked up to Hu Fang and Death Apostle with the group of killers behind me. "I'm back and brought some helpers..." I said, turning to gesture at those behind me.
The date seller was visibly shaken; in this desolate area, seeing such a large group of strong men made him think I was about to rob him. His legs were already starting to tremble. "W-what are these people...?" he stammered.
I chuckled and reassured him, "Hey, don't be afraid. They're here to help move things... Here’s your payment." I pulled out my wallet from my pocket and paid him according to our previously agreed price.
After that, each of us carried a sack of jujubes as we headed towards Yunpo. Due to the lack of manpower, the men among us were basically carrying two sacks each, leaving no hands free. This forced us to let Hu Fang carry the last sack.
Along the way, Hu Fang complained incessantly. By the time we finally reached the Mountain, aside from those we had called for help from the Slayers, the three of us were already exhausted. We plopped down in the hall filled with Black Soldiers, where dozens of sacks of jujubes were laid out before us.
“Mo Shu Old Senior, where are you?!” Not seeing Mo Shu around, I shouted at the top of my lungs.
After a moment, I heard Mo Shu's voice coming from one of the doors: “Oh, you’re here! I’m right here…”
Following the sound, I saw Mo Shu slowly walking out from behind the door, one hand holding a cane and the other stroking his white beard. Upon seeing the piles of sacks in the hall, he paused for a moment and then asked, “What are these? How come…” He sniffed and immediately understood, exclaiming in delight, “Jujubes! Fragrant and sweet big jujubes! Oh my, I didn’t expect you really bought them for me…”
Without waiting for a response, he eagerly walked over, grabbed one of the sacks, and tore it open. Bright red jujubes rolled out.
Mo Shu picked one up casually, wiped it on his clothes, and popped it into his mouth. “Delicious! Truly wonderful! You keep your word; I really appreciate you…”
