I couldn't afford to think much longer upon seeing the situation, so I hurriedly circled around the massive magic circle and ran toward the Lumberyard.
At this moment, the Lumberyard had been abandoned for quite some time, with decaying wood piled up all around, along with rusted and aging machinery and dilapidated buildings.
Since the Lumberyard was quite large, I shouted at the top of my lungs as I ran, "Hu Fang! Death Apostle! Where are you?"
In the empty Lumberyard, I could only hear my own voice echoing and the sounds of explosions from Gu Kai's battle outside the factory. The ground occasionally trembled from their fight.
After running for a while, I felt my already aching legs becoming even more unbearable. The powerful force from Jiang Ling was still surging within me.
"Shen Xu, you can't use that sword anymore. If you keep this up, you'll die! Your body won't be able to withstand this power and will explode!" Void Spirit warned me sternly from within.
However, I didn't know if there were dangers lurking around me. If I withdrew my power now and encountered a threat, even Gu Kai might not be able to come to my rescue.
"Void Spirit, listen. You need to help me control this power. I can't lose it until I find them!" As soon as I finished speaking, a chilling Yin Qi rose up behind me.
I quickly turned around and saw a pair of blood-red eyes staring intently at me. The owner of those eyes had their head resting on my shoulder, yet I felt nothing at all.
"What is that?!" I exclaimed in shock, instinctively turning and swinging my sword. A Slash Mark erupted from the blade and shot out rapidly.
But at that moment of attack, the Demonic Mark that had been watching me from my shoulder vanished without a trace, followed by a series of sharp laughter echoing in midair that sent chills down my spine.
"Shen Xuxin, behind you!" Void Spirit warned me from within. But it was too late; I suddenly felt a searing pain on my back as if something had clawed me fiercely. The pain spread across my back instantly.
I stumbled forward a few steps, nearly falling to the ground. Before I could regain my balance, I used my momentum to turn around.
This time I saw clearly that what was behind me was an Evil Spirit similar to those I'd encountered before—one that could hide in shadows and launch sudden attacks.
"Hello there, fresh soul!" the ghost greeted me with a sharp voice.
But I had no intention of responding; instead, I quickly raised Jiang Ling and stepped forward, ready to strike it down. However, just as I got close enough to it, the Evil Spirit vanished without a trace.
“Useless, useless~ You cannot kill me; I can hear the voice of your soul~” With a sharp voice echoing in the air, I felt as if the Evil Spirit had clawed at my back again, accompanied by a strong sensation of pain.
My legs weakened, and I nearly fell to the ground. At that moment, the Void Spirit said to me, “Shen Xu, don’t push yourself too hard. If it comes to it, just use Hatred!”
“No, it’s not time yet. I can do this!” I insisted, forcing myself to stand firm while trying to calm down and sense the changes in the atmosphere around me.
As my mind settled, the sound of the wind rustling through the grass and the distant sounds of Gu Kai fighting became remarkably clear.
“Shen Xu, you’ve changed; you’ve grown stronger,” remarked the Void Spirit.
“Isn’t that what you told me…” I thought back to Void Spirit: “You told me to feel with my heart back in the Cursed Realm…” Just then, I suddenly sensed a cold Killing Intent rising behind me.
“Here!” I shouted suddenly, gripping Jiang Ling with one hand and sweeping around. Before Jiang Ling could unleash its Slash Mark, I quickly infused it with power, merging the immense force within Jiang Ling with that of the Void Spirit, slightly suppressing its energy.
Although I managed to suppress some of the power within Jiang Ling, the strike of Slash Mark was still formidable. The Evil Spirit hadn’t even reacted before it was instantly cleaved in two by the Slash Mark, and its shattered soul was immediately absorbed back into it, further enhancing the power of Slash Mark.
In an instant, I saw Slash Mark collide with a distant hill, forming a massive black-and-white sphere that sucked in all surrounding trees, evaporating them completely.
“It seems that the power I released is comparable to that of Yao Long. The only difference should be with Worm King…” I glanced at Jiang Ling in my hand and muttered to myself before continuing my search for Hu Fang and Death Apostle.
I twisted and turned along my path until I seemed to have arrived at the place where workers used to live near the Lumberyard. A low, simple house appeared before me.
“Will they be here…” I mumbled and then shouted, “Hu Fang! Death Apostle! Are you there? Answer me if you hear this!”
As soon as my words fell, a voice from one of the rooms called out: “Shen Xu! Shen…” Before finishing, it sounded like something had blocked Hu Fang’s mouth.
At that moment, the Void Spirit inside me said, “The third room from the left.”
“Got it!” I replied and dashed toward that room. But just a few steps in, several figures resembling Yang Masters blocked my way. They wielded numerous Soul Threads, wrapping their arms into sword-like shapes while more threads extended from behind them, swirling around their bodies.
Seeing this, I whispered, "The minions still want to block my way..." Before I could finish my sentence, I suddenly surged forward.
A flurry of sword shadows flashed by, and the minions blocking my path were swiftly sliced into pieces, scattering across the ground. With the obstacles in front of me eliminated, I dashed towards the room indicated by the Void Spirit without hesitation.
Arriving at the door, I noticed that the wooden door was tightly shut. Without a second thought, I leaped forward and crashed into it with a loud bang.
As soon as I burst inside, a strong smell of blood assaulted my senses. Thanks to the moonlight streaming in from outside, I saw that my feet were surrounded by various dismembered bodies. The layer of crimson blood on the ground hadn't even dried yet, indicating that the killings had just taken place.
"Hu Fang, are you here?!" Unable to see clearly into the dark corners of the room, I had no choice but to call out loudly.
To my surprise, it wasn't Hu Fang who responded but rather a voice from an unfamiliar woman: "Hu Fang? What a dull name. I would never call myself that, even in death."
As the voice spoke, a woman slowly stepped into the moonlight. Dressed in a vibrant red qipao, she approached gracefully and said, "You can call me Mei..."
