I hurriedly lifted my shirt, eager to see the Nine Star Diagram on my body and check if Onizuka had been dispelled. However, upon inspection, I found that five stars still remained, with one of them significantly dimmed but not completely erased. This meant that the power contained within Onizuka had merely been weakened, not eliminated.
"How could this be?!" I muttered to myself.
Beside me, Yao Long looked puzzled. He glanced at my lifted shirt and said, "What happened to you? You were just unconscious for a while, and now you're talking nonsense..."
Ignoring him, I turned my gaze around. Behind Yao Long lay the woman from earlier, seemingly taken down by him. Nearby, a box spilled out green liquid that emitted a pungent stench, likely some toxic gas.
In such an air-stagnant environment, allowing that liquid to evaporate freely could lead to poisoning. I quickly said to Yao Long, "We need to sort this out quickly; let's get Li Zhisheng and Hu Fang home first..."
As I spoke, I hastily got to my feet. But the moment I stood up, a wave of dizziness hit me, accompanied by an overwhelming sense of weakness that nearly caused me to collapse again. At that moment, I felt my soul once more trying to detach from my body.
Seeing this, Yao Long rushed to support me and asked anxiously, "Are you hurt? Do you feel unwell?!"
I weakly replied, "I'm... okay. We need to get home fast; otherwise, I might not hold on much longer..."
With that, Yao Long helped me unsteadily walk back to where we had left Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng. I strained to lift Hu Fang onto my back while Yao Long seemed still in good shape; he grabbed Li Zhisheng from the ground and effortlessly hoisted him onto his shoulder before turning back to support me. "Come on, let's move..."
As he urged us forward, black scales rapidly grew around his legs, enveloping them completely. Then he wrapped an arm around my shoulders and leaped into the air with great force.
In an instant, Yao Long propelled us through the hole he had created earlier. Once outside, I immediately felt a rush of fresh air fill my lungs; it was clear that the underground air was terrible. Yet the sensation of my soul detaching persisted, and that intense weakness continued to gnaw at my body.
"Should we take a taxi or find another way?" Yao Long asked.
"Do you have any better options besides a taxi?" I countered.
Yao Long smiled slightly. "I have my ways." As soon as he finished speaking, he leaped again while still holding onto me, bounding across the ruins around us as he swiftly made his way toward the Amusement Park's exit. My feet never touched the ground; I was carried along as he sprinted at full speed.
Flying in the air, I was astonished. "You could use your abilities like this when no one is around, but now, in broad daylight, aren't you worried about being discovered by some strange organization and getting taken for human experimentation?!"
Yao Long, without looking back, continued to leap across the rooftops. "Li Zhisheng and Hu Fang are unconscious, and you're in danger now. We can't afford to worry about that. If we took a taxi, we wouldn't make it in time." He quickened his pace, moving effortlessly like a gust of wind across the rooftops.
Hearing this, I glanced at the twinkling stars in the sky and silently prayed that we wouldn't be discovered...
Before long, Yao Long came to a stop on a rooftop in the suburbs. "We're here."
At this point, the detachment of my soul had become quite severe; my vision was starting to blur, and speaking was becoming difficult. "Hurry, take me home..."
Seeing that I was barely hanging on, Yao Long didn't hesitate. He quickly jumped down from the rooftop. In mid-air, he aimed for the window of our floor and kicked hard. With a loud crash, the glass shattered and scattered onto the floor inside.
"Do you need your notebook?" Yao Long asked as he placed us away from the shards of glass and turned on the light.
I nodded weakly. "Yes, it's in that brown cabinet in the room. You’ll see it if you open it..." My consciousness was fading, and even speaking felt laborious.
Without another word, Yao Long dashed into the room and quickly retrieved the notebook and pen.
I lay on the ground, struggling to prop myself up with my elbows as I opened the notebook and poured all my strength into recording what had happened in my dream.
Once I finished writing, I closed the notebook and felt the mark on my arm gradually fading. I could distinctly sense that it was diminishing significantly, and my soul was slowly returning to my body along with the fading mark.
"I made it... I'm saved..." I sighed deeply and collapsed onto the floor.
"Are you okay now?" Yao Long asked with concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine..." I turned to look at Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng, who were still lying unconscious nearby. "But they don't seem to have woken up yet." I couldn't help but furrow my brow.
Yao Long noticed my improved complexion and slowly walked over to Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng. He checked their breathing and scrutinized them for a moment before saying, "Their breathing is normal, and there shouldn't be anything implanted inside them. There are no obvious external injuries either. It seems that Yang Master’s people didn’t do anything to them this time."
Hearing this, I felt a wave of relief wash over me. "Yang Master’s group wanted to use them as hostages, so they naturally wouldn’t dare to harm them. Otherwise, they wouldn’t get what they wanted."
"They didn’t get anything at all..." With that, Yao Long and I lifted Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng onto the sofa.
After putting away the booklet, I took out the book titled "Divine Anomalies Classic: Nine Star Life and Death Diagram" that the Death Apostle had given me. I sat down alone, flipping through it in confusion while muttering to myself, "What exactly is this? Why does everyone want it? What secrets does it hide?"
Yao Long chimed in, "According to typical TV drama plots, things that everyone wants to snatch usually turn out to be treasure maps or some kind of secret manuals."
After hearing this, I raised the "Divine Anomalies Classic" in front of Yao Long. "Does this look like a secret manual or a treasure map to you? Aside from the mark on my body at the end, the rest is just an ancient text..."
"Well, could it be that the key lies within the Nine Star Diagram at the end of the book?" At that moment, Li Zhisheng surprisingly woke up. He had overheard our conversation and was scratching his head while talking to himself...
