"It's fine, having Li Zhisheng with me is enough. You all just wait for my good news at home..." After I finished speaking, Death Apostle frowned slightly. He pulled Yao Long closer and whispered something in his ear. I noticed that after listening, Yao Long showed a hint of reluctance on his face but still nodded slightly in agreement.
Curious, I asked, "What are you two discussing?"
Death Apostle smiled slightly and said, "Nothing much, I was just asking him what we should have for dinner tonight."
But I knew well that what he had just confirmed to Yao Long was not about dinner. Seeing that he didn't want to elaborate, I didn't press further. I glanced at the clock on the wall; it was already close to evening, and the light was gradually fading. My stomach was growling since I hadn't eaten anything.
So, Hu Fang and I casually prepared some food and called everyone to join us for dinner...
After finishing dinner, it was already past eight o'clock, and it had become almost completely dark. Sitting at the dining table, I looked at the time and said to Li Zhisheng, "It's about time; let's get ready to go."
Li Zhisheng nodded in agreement, and we both stood up to prepare to leave. Li Zhisheng went back to his room to grab his phone while I returned to my room and took out the three tokens that Death Apostle had given me earlier from the drawer. I selected one and put it in my pocket for emergencies.
Then, we left together with Li Zhisheng...
After leaving the house, we took a taxi straight to the Cemetery. Along the way, the neon lights flickered around us, and traffic was heavy, but I wasn't in the mood to look around; instead, I kept pondering what kind of ghosts or monsters I might encounter next or if this was just an ordinary human incident.
As the vehicle moved forward, the number of cars and people around us gradually decreased. I even felt that the streetlights beside us were dimming considerably; whether it was my imagination or because we were approaching the outskirts, I couldn't tell.
Before long, the taxi stopped in front of the Cemetery gate. After paying the fare, Li Zhisheng and I got out of the car. Standing outside the gate, we saw a tall iron gate looming before us, with several heavy metal locks hanging from it. There wasn't a soul in sight.
I stepped forward and pulled on one of the locks hanging on the gate, which made a clattering sound.
"The lock is dead; there's no way to get in," I said as I turned back to Li Zhisheng.
"Since this person called us here but locked the gate, what could their intention be? This isn't how you play tricks on people," Li Zhisheng said in confusion.
"Hey! Is anyone there?!" I shouted a few times but received no response. Aside from my voice echoing back at me, there was complete silence all around.
"No one is here... It seems we have to find another way," I said as I returned to Li Zhisheng's side. Together, we continued along the outer wall of the Cemetery, hoping to find another entrance.
As we walked, Li Zhisheng asked me, "Shen Xu, did you mishear him? Did he say to come tomorrow night?"
I replied firmly, "No, I definitely didn't mishear. He told me to come tonight; there was no mention of any other time."
He muttered a few words to himself, sounding somewhat disgruntled, but I couldn't catch what he said clearly.
At that moment, for some reason, the further we walked, the darker it became around us. Soon, I could barely see the ground beneath my feet.
Since this was a suburban area with uneven terrain and scattered stones, I worried about tripping. I turned to Li Zhisheng and said, "Didn't you bring your phone? Use it for light; I can hardly see the path."
Li Zhisheng agreed and took out his phone. Just as he turned on the flashlight, a horrifying face suddenly appeared before me. The face was gaunt and yellowed, with disheveled hair cascading down from the top of its head. Its hollow eye sockets were just a few feet away from me.
I gasped in shock and instinctively stepped back a few paces. As I retreated, that face quickly vanished into the surrounding darkness.
However, Li Zhisheng seemed oblivious to what had just happened. He turned around and looked at me with a strange expression. "What's wrong? Did you see a ghost?"
Although I was initially startled by the sudden fright, I quickly regained my composure. Steadying myself, I replied to Li Zhisheng, "You might be right; I really did see something. A face just appeared right in front of me! Didn't you see it?!"
Li Zhisheng raised his phone and scanned the area around us. The light illuminated only some old houses and the Cemetery's outer wall beside us.
After a moment, he shrugged and said, "There's nothing here; you're imagining things..." Yet deep down, he knew I wouldn't joke around in such a situation, nor was I someone who made such jokes. Despite his words, I could sense the power of Soul Burial within him stirring restlessly, as if ready to erupt at any moment.
"Maybe it's just because we've been in this dark environment for too long," I suggested. "When the light suddenly came on, my eyes weren't used to it and caused an illusion." With that thought in mind, I reached into my pocket and grasped the item hidden within.
In the darkness, Li Zhisheng continued to hold his phone for light as we kept moving forward...
I lost track of how long we had been walking when suddenly Li Zhisheng's phone flickered once before plunging into darkness. Instantly, we were enveloped in pitch blackness again.
I quickly reached out and grabbed Li Zhisheng's shoulder. "What's wrong? Is your phone broken?"
Li Zhisheng didn't respond immediately upon hearing my voice. I heard him patting something, presumably his phone, before he finally replied, "It shouldn't be broken. I didn't pay attention to the battery when I left earlier, so it must have run out of power."
Upon hearing his voice, a chill ran through me—not because of his phone, but because of the sound itself.
Li Zhisheng's voice came from a position slightly in front of my left side, while the person I was holding onto stood right beside me, seemingly right behind Li Zhisheng.
Panic began to set in. I realized that if I showed any sign of fear, this "person" beside me would likely spring into action and attack both me and Li Zhisheng.
Thinking quickly, I forced myself to remain calm and brainstormed solutions in my mind. "We are currently in darkness. Even if Li Zhisheng could easily kill this 'person,' if it manages to escape from my grip, we would find it extremely difficult to take it down again and would be left in a very passive position."
As these thoughts raced through my mind, I felt a wave of cold wash over me, but I dared not loosen my grip on this "person" beside me...
