I was completely stunned. I never expected that during the time I was driving, besides me and Hu Fang, there had been a third person hiding in the shadows of the back seat, watching us. The thought sent chills down my spine, making my hair stand on end as a bone-chilling cold pierced through my coat.
“W-What are you?!” My voice trembled uncontrollably.
Meanwhile, Hu Fang had already crossed her arms, avoiding the hand that reached out from the back seat with a cane, curling up against the car door as if ready to jump out and escape at any moment.
At that moment, a hoarse voice emerged from the shadowy back seat. “Thank you for giving me a ride…” Accompanying that deep and heavy voice, a disfigured face peeked out from the back seat. In the cold moonlight, that face looked extremely terrifying.
Seeing this, Hu Fang let out a terrified scream. Her voice was piercingly sharp, even catching the attention of Yang Master and his group who were approaching us from a distance. They stopped in their tracks, shouting towards our direction, “Who’s there?! Come out!” There was a hint of threat in their tone.
But at that moment, I couldn’t care less about Yang Master’s group; all I could think was, “Isn’t that wealthy businessman dead?!” Without waiting for the monster in the back seat to respond, I shouted to Hu Fang, “Quick! Get out of the car!” At the same time, I yanked open the car door and leaped out.
Just as I hit the ground, a muffled thud came from behind in the car. I didn’t have time to consider what that monster was doing inside; I hurried around to the other side of the car and pulled Hu Fang up from where she had fallen, dragging her toward the back of the vehicle.
But just then, an overwhelming killing intent spread behind me as if warning me to stop. Yet I thought to myself, “Damn it! If we don’t run now, we’ll die even faster!”
“What’s going on?! Why is there a monster in our car?!” Hu Fang asked in terror as we ran.
“If you’re asking me, who should I ask? I want to know why there’s a monster in the car too! But this isn’t the time for questions; we need to run first…”
Suddenly, a flash of red light appeared behind us, followed by a deafening explosion right in front of me. Instantly, I felt a wave of cold air hit my face as if the blast had kicked up a cloud of snow and mist.
Hu Fang and I were completely unprepared for this sudden explosion. Startled, we lost our footing on the uneven ground littered with debris and stumbled simultaneously to the ground, hitting our bodies painfully against the protruding stones.
I wanted to struggle to get up and continue running, but both my knees were injured, and as soon as I stood, I collapsed again. "Stop running; you can't escape..." The hoarse, deep voice came from behind me again, accompanied by heavy footsteps approaching me and Hu Fang, who lay on the ground.
Hearing this, I felt unwilling to give up and struggled to stand, but with my knees and elbows injured, I simply couldn't support my body. No matter how many times I tried, I couldn't get back on my feet. It seemed that Hu Fang beside me was in the same situation. "Shen, how are you...?" Hu Fang asked with difficulty.
I replied, "I can't move; it feels like the debris from that explosion injured my joints..."
As soon as I finished speaking, the heavy footsteps stopped beside us. I quickly turned my head to look. In the faint moonlight, I could vaguely see a figure standing next to me and Hu Fang, dressed in a long robe and holding a staff that symbolized a Yang Master. However, since he was facing away from the moonlight, I couldn't see his face clearly and couldn't determine if he was the monster from before.
"Why are you following us? Who sent you?" he said in a condescending tone while pressing his staff against my chest.
At that moment, I noticed that the staff he held was intricately carved with three lifelike dragon patterns. In contrast, the Death Apostle's staff had only one dragon pattern. In other words, this person was two levels above the Death Apostle.
Realizing this, I recalled what had been said earlier while driving and suddenly had an idea. Putting on a timid demeanor, I said, "We were just passing through here and got lost; we really meant no harm. You must have misunderstood..."
"Misunderstood?" he sneered coldly. "Let me explain what misunderstanding means. Driving at night without headlights on such a treacherous gravel path—are you really lost? Am I the one misunderstanding you, or do you think I'm a fool?" With that, he suddenly jabbed his staff forcefully into my chest. Instantly, I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me, followed by a violent coughing fit.
Seeing this, Hu Fang quickly struggled to crawl over to me and angrily confronted the man with the staff. "I warn you not to hurt him; otherwise, I won't let this go!"
The man scoffed at her words. "Not let it go? Just based on you?!" With that, he raised his staff and struck Hu Fang across the face with a loud crack, knocking her down from beside me.
"What are you doing?! If you have a problem with me, come at me! What kind of coward hits women?!" I shouted in agitation.
He sneered dismissively at my outburst. "Still have some sense of justice... I don't have time to waste on you right now. You have two choices: First, tell me honestly why you're following me and who sent you. Second, you can choose not to answer—and then I'll choose to kill both of you..."
He raised his hand and struck fiercely at Hu Fang, who was already on the ground beside him.
At that moment, his actions completely enraged me. "You will regret this!" I exclaimed, suddenly reaching into my backpack behind me and pulling out Jiang Ling. Without hesitation, I thrust it into my chest. Instantly, time froze, and the pain from my injuries vanished.
"How much power do you have now?" As soon as I felt Void Spirit awaken, I asked it.
Void Spirit replied seriously, "The last battle drained too much energy. Even after breaking Onizuka, I only have about thirty percent of my power left. To defeat this enemy, I need to recover to at least forty percent."
"I don't care! Whether I fight or not, I'm dead either way, so why not give it my all!" With that, I suddenly stood up and, while time was still frozen, quickly infused my energy into Jiang Ling. In an instant, a Red Dragon coiled around me. Then, with a roar of fury, I swung at the person in front of me wielding a staff, unleashing a black Slash Mark laced with red light.
As the Slash Mark appeared, time resumed. "What the..." the person gasped, leaping into the air at incredible speed to evade the Slash Mark.
Seeing him airborne, I aimed at his position and prepared to strike again before he landed, hoping to take him down while he couldn't dodge...
