"No, we can't panic at a time like this; we need to stay calm..." I tried to steady myself and asked Li Zhisheng, "Do you feel cold?"
As soon as I asked that question, I suddenly felt a chill enveloping me, as if I were standing in the depths of winter, causing me to shiver involuntarily.
"A little..." Li Zhisheng replied.
Hearing this, I thought, "It's strange. Why do Li Zhisheng, Hu Fang, and I all feel the cold while Meng Zhuang seems unaffected? Could the chill be emanating from him?"
With that in mind, I confirmed with Meng Zhuang again, "Meng Zhuang, you really don't feel cold at all?"
He shrugged off his shirt and responded with a questioning tone, "Cold? Why would I feel cold? I don't feel anything at all."
However, Hu Fang beside Meng Zhuang was still shivering uncontrollably. Worried about her, I took off my leather jacket and walked over to drape it over her. This time she didn't flinch but gladly accepted my coat.
"Are you feeling better?" I glanced at the still trembling Hu Fang.
Hu Fang didn't answer; she just nodded slightly and then turned her head to look at me with those pitiful eyes. For some reason, I felt her gaze was filled with expectation, which made me uneasy.
"It's good if you're feeling better..." I quickly averted my eyes from her.
At that moment, Li Zhisheng suddenly called out to me, "Shen Xu, come here for a second; I have something to ask you..." He turned and limped toward the elevator area.
"Okay," I replied and said to Hu Fang and Meng Zhuang, "You two keep an eye on the Death Apostle; don’t let anything happen. I'll be right back."
With that, I followed Li Zhisheng to the corner of the elevator area. "Perfect timing; I wanted to ask you something too." I spoke first, "Have you noticed that all the codes we've found have disappeared? It's as if that Evil Spirit already knows our intentions..."
Li Zhisheng nodded. "Yeah, I've noticed your concern too. But bringing it up when we can't be sure could mislead us into making wrong judgments because of that Evil Spirit. Yet not finding out about its presence quickly is dangerous; it's indeed a tough situation..." He shook his head repeatedly.
As I pondered silently, I thought to myself, "Given the current situation, both Hu Fang and Meng Zhuang have their suspicions. First of all, all three of us felt the cold, yet Meng Zhuang seemed completely unfazed. As for Hu Fang, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about her, but I couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was."
Li Zhisheng noticed my silence and gave me a nudge. "Here's what I'm thinking: right now, our clues are limited, and we can't clearly identify who the true Evil Spirit is. So let's test them and see if we can uncover more clues."
"How do we test them?" I asked.
"We can use the previous signal. If they know..."
"Wait!" Before Li Zhisheng could finish, I suddenly spotted a square object in the corner of the room. I hurried over to pick it up.
"What did you find?" Li Zhisheng followed me and asked.
Holding the item I had picked up, I said seriously, "It's Meng Zhuang's cigarettes. There are exactly four left inside, and even my lighter that I put in there is still with them."
"Let's go! I'll use this to see if Meng Zhuang is genuine or not!" With that, I helped Li Zhisheng back to the Intensive Care Unit.
"Meng Zhuang, do you remember how many cigarettes are left in your Cigarette Case?" I held up the Cigarette Case and asked.
Meng Zhuang didn't directly answer my question. "Shen, where did you find this..." He reached out his hand towards me, wanting to take back the cigarettes.
Seeing this, I quickly withdrew my hand and said, "I can't give it to you just yet. First tell me, how many cigarettes are left in your Cigarette Case?"
Meng Zhuang scratched his head, looking somewhat frustrated. "Actually, people who smoke often don't really keep track of how many are left in their Cigarette Case. Besides, Shen, you smoked some too."
Upon hearing this, I found there was some truth to his words and momentarily didn't know how to continue questioning him. Instead, I turned to Li Zhisheng beside me.
He saw that his inquiries yielded no results, so he opened his mouth to ask Hu Fang, "Hu Fang, where did your bow tie go?"
Hu Fang tightened the leather jacket draped over her shoulders with her hand. "I don't know, it might have fallen off when the power went out earlier. Why are you asking about this?"
Li Zhisheng chuckled. "Don't worry about what I want to do; just answer my question..." He continued, "Let me ask you again, how many gems are embedded in your bow tie?"
Upon hearing this, I thought to myself, "Right, the bow tie was tied by Hu Fang herself; she must know how many gems are on it..."
To my surprise, Hu Fang readily replied, "There are still two left. I accidentally lost one while washing clothes before. Why are you suddenly interested in my accessories?"
At Hu Fang's answer, both Li Zhisheng and I were taken aback. After exchanging glances, Li Zhisheng whispered, "What do we do now? I have no more ideas."
I didn't respond but kept pondering in my mind, "When we walked to the elevator earlier, I didn't feel any chill. Without a doubt, that chill was emanating from Hu Fang and Meng Zhuang. But Meng Zhuang didn't feel cold; why is that? What exactly is going wrong here..."
Suddenly, a light bulb went off in my head. I turned to Li Zhisheng and asked, "Li Zhisheng, what do you think is our common point?"
Li Zhisheng thought for a moment and replied, "Smart? Both men? Or..."
I waved my hand dismissively. "How did you become so slow? I'm not going to explain everything right now; just use your Soul Burial power to grab Hu Fang!"
I emphasized the last two words, and as soon as Li Zhisheng heard them, he immediately understood. He gathered the power of Soul Burial around his palm, and dark energy quickly enveloped his entire hand.
At the same time, Li Zhisheng's uninjured leg suddenly exerted force as he jumped on one foot and swiftly reached Hu Fang's side.
Hu Fang was startled by Li Zhisheng's actions and attempted to retreat. However, at that moment, Li Zhisheng had already closed in on her and reached out to grab her neck.
Hu Fang showed a moment of surprise, then immediately reacted, shouting at me, "Shen Xu, Li Zhisheng has been possessed! Quickly save me!"
I looked at Hu Fang calmly and said, "At this point, stop pretending. I was able to tell that Li Zhisheng was possessed before; do you think I can't see through you now... Evil Spirit!"
Meng Zhuang, who had initially been stunned by Li Zhisheng's actions, suddenly darted behind me as soon as he heard me say "Evil Spirit," trembling as he asked, "Shen, how can Hu Fang be the Evil Spirit? Are you sure you’re not mistaken…?"
I replied, "I'm not mistaken. It was in that instant when the power went out that she was possessed by the Evil Spirit—the same one that disappeared with the nurse! She deliberately let us discover her to confuse our judgment, making me think one of us was a 'traitor,' but I never considered that direction!"
"As for why Hu Fang is the one possessed by the Evil Spirit, she just admitted it herself!" With that, I extended a hand and pointed fiercely at Hu Fang.
Upon hearing this, Hu Fang immediately retorted, "I didn’t do anything!" She reached out and desperately clawed at Li Zhisheng's hand gripping her neck, trying to break free. However, with Li Zhisheng using the power of Soul Burial, her efforts were futile.
"Still unwilling to admit it? Fine! Then I'll make you accept it willingly..."
Seeing this, Hu Fang attempted one last struggle. Tears streamed down her face as she put on a pitiful expression and said, "Shen Xu! Can't you see?! I like you!"
