Jiang Xingzhi and Jiang Xi walked towards the study in Songhe Garden, one in front of the other. 0

Upon reaching the study, Jiang Xingzhi slammed the door shut and immediately made his stance clear: "I do not agree with your marriage to the Regent." 0

Jiang Xi was not surprised by his words; she knew their positions were fundamentally different. 0

With a determined gaze, she replied, "I have made up my mind. Even if you disagree, I fear you cannot stop me." 0

Jiang Xingzhi's expression darkened further as he glared at Jiang Xi and shouted, "Do you even know what you're doing? You are the daughter of the Jiang Family. Feng Yang has always been loyal to the current emperor, not the Regent. If you truly marry him, you will be tied to him for life." 0

He grew more agitated, stepping closer with a face full of anxiety and concern as he continued to persuade her. "Have you thought about it? Once the emperor secures his throne, the first person he will deal with is the Regent. How do you think he will spare you then?" 0

Jiang Xi merely smiled faintly and replied calmly, "Father need not worry. I have already devised a foolproof plan. Since I have chosen to marry him, I will bear whatever happens alongside him." 0

Furious, Jiang Xingzhi slammed his hand on the table and yelled, "What is there to be at ease about? The Regent is after you because of your mother's wealth! He is scheming ahead to prevent being controlled by the emperor when it comes to military funds. What can you bear? Even if you are not afraid of death, don't drag your mother down with you!" 0

Jiang Xi laughed outright, a mocking smile curling at her lips as she retorted, "Father's words sound so righteous; if outsiders heard them, they might think you are deeply devoted to my mother." 0

Jiang Xingzhi was momentarily speechless, a lump caught in his throat. After a while, he managed to calm himself down and began appealing to her emotions again. "The engagement with Huo Xingwen has been called off; I won't force you to marry him. But marrying the Regent is absolutely out of the question. You should know that when a ruler is enraged, countless lives are lost. You wouldn't want to see Jiang Manor destroyed because of your actions, would you?" 0

Jiang Xi understood that her father was not concerned for her well-being but only worried about himself. 0

Thus, she responded dismissively, "Father does have a point; I will consider it carefully." 0

Thinking that Jiang Xi had taken his words to heart, Jiang Xingzhi sighed in relief and continued, "Regarding the Regent's proposal, you need not rush to refuse him." 0

At this, Jiang Xi fixed her gaze on him for quite some time, as if she could see through his thoughts. Then, with a half-smile and raised eyebrow, she asked, "Father, what do you mean by that?" 0

Jiang Xingzhi felt uneasy under her scrutiny; it seemed as though all his hidden intentions were laid bare before her. He avoided her gaze, unable to meet her eyes directly. 0

"The meaning of your father is that you can continue to associate with the Regent, but there's no rush for the marriage. If he shows any unusual behavior, you'll be able to withdraw in time." 0

Jiang Xi couldn't help but chuckle inwardly; it was just like the same old tricks from her past life, the same calculations at play. 0

Hmph, once was enough for a fool. This time, she was determined not to be manipulated again. 0

With a faint smile, Jiang Xi said, "If Father has nothing else, I will take my leave." After speaking, she turned and opened the door, walking out without looking back at Jiang Xingzhi's grim expression. 0

As she stepped out of Songhe Garden, she lifted her gaze and spotted Fong Yang standing under a nearby phoenix tree. Fong Yang stood tall and straight, perfectly flawless from both the front and side views. Bathed in sunlight, he seemed to radiate a soft halo, making him particularly eye-catching. 0

Jiang Xi's heart filled with joy as she lifted her skirt and skipped over to him. Coming to a halt in front of Fong Yang, she tilted her head slightly and looked up at his face with sparkling eyes. The more she looked, the happier she felt. Unable to contain herself, she stood on her tiptoes and gently kissed his cheek. 0

Fong Yang felt a warmth spread through his heart and thought to himself: How is Jiang Xi becoming more accustomed to kissing me? This feeling is wonderful. 0

Since that morning when he woke up, Jiang Xi had occasionally kissed Fong Yang. Each time filled him with delight, yet he often felt it wasn't enough. He would sometimes be overwhelmed by the impulse to hold Jiang Xi tightly in his arms and kiss her thoroughly, wishing he could merge her into himself so they could become one. 0

However, he only kept those thoughts to himself. Fong Yang was afraid of scaring Jiang Xi; whenever he was about to speak, he had countless words swirling in his mind but ended up only asking softly, "Are we having lunch at home or staying here with your mother?" 0

Jiang Xi paused slightly, pondering how it sounded as if the Regent's Palace were her home. 0

She wasn't sure if Fong Yang had said it intentionally but took a moment before replying softly, "I'll go ask my mother." 0

Just then, Madam Jiang walked out from inside and overheard their conversation. She interjected, "You don't need to stay; I have something to attend to and will return only tonight." 0

Jiang Xi quickly asked, "Mother has something to do? Do you need my help?" 0

Madam Jiang smiled gently and shook her head. "You know nothing about business; what help could you provide? You don't need to worry; just go back with the prince." 0

Jiang Xi was momentarily taken aback, pondering why both Mother and Fong Yang seemed to have accepted that the Regent's Palace was their home. However, she quickly dismissed the thought, knowing that she would eventually become a part of the Regent's Palace. 0

She then asked, "Mother, how did your discussion with the prince about the marriage go?" 0

Madam Jiang instinctively glanced at Fong Yang before turning to Jiang Xi with a smile. "It went very well. I need to hurry and prepare your dowry. I want my daughter to have a grand wedding, even more impressive than a princess's." 0

Jiang Xi took her mother's hand, a hint of worry on her face as she replied, "Stealing the princess's thunder might not be a good thing." 0

Madam Jiang calmly explained, "You don't understand. The more I act like a country bumpkin with money, the more some people will feel at ease. I'm doing this for you and the prince. Don't worry; I know what I'm doing. You and the prince should head back today, and come visit me when you have time. I might be busy in the next few days and won't be around much." 0

Jiang Xi frowned slightly, asking with concern, "Will Father cause you any trouble again?" 0

Madam Jiang chuckled softly, a hint of disdain in her smile as she said, "Ever since your father became Prime Minister, he's been wanting to divorce me, but he hasn’t dared to actually bring it up. He just makes noise without taking real action. You can rest easy." 0

Hearing this reassured her somewhat, and she waved her hand. "Then we'll head back now." 0

Fong Yang nodded slightly and bid farewell to Madam Jiang. "Goodbye, Madam." 0

Madam Jiang waved her hand with a smile. "Take care, Prince." 0
