I was surprised. "Who would target me?" 0

Cao Feng shook his head. "I need to look into this. You should rest well, and I'll come see you tomorrow." 0

Cao Feng left, but Cui Jie sat down. 0

She looked at me without saying a word, and for a moment, I didn't know what to say. 0

"You..." 0

"Are you wondering why I haven't left?" Cui Jie asked. 0

I nodded. 0

Cui Jie said, "I wanted to talk to you." 0

I asked, "About what?" 0

Cui Jie fell silent for a moment before saying, "I feel like you've been intentionally avoiding me lately." 0

Instinctively, I wanted to look away from her gaze. 0

She stared at me and said, "Cao Feng mentioned that when you lie, you can't meet people's eyes." 0

I looked at her, neither denying nor admitting it. 0

Cui Jie continued, "He also said you bought me a birthday gift?" 0

"Ah! That Cao Feng is so unreliable; he can't keep his mouth shut," I shook my head. 0

Cui Jie said, "So that means you admit it. Why didn't you give it to me?" 0

Since she had asked, I felt there was nothing I couldn't say. I replied, "Because I thought you might have something better already; maybe you wouldn't even like this one." 0

Cui Jie frowned slightly. "Don't speak in riddles. If you didn't give it to me, how do you know whether I'd like it or not?" 0

I remained silent. 0

Chen Jiehua then asked, "Is it because you saw me with Liang Hao? The other day in the hallway, your expression was terrible." 0

I stayed quiet and nodded. 0

Chen Jiehua was annoyed. "You're such a fool! That day was the first time Liang Hao and I acted together. During the audition, we couldn't get into character, so we found a similar scene from the script and tried to get into it in real life." 0

A realization hit me; how did I not think of that? 0

I stammered, "It was too far away; how could I see clearly?" 0

Chen Jiehua retorted, "Then why didn't you come closer to take a look? Where's that usual cluelessness of yours?" 0

"You were holding each other like that, and with the rumors in class about Liang Hao pursuing you, plus how outstanding he is, I..." I felt my confidence dwindling as I spoke. 0

Chen Jiehua retorted angrily, "So? You think just because of what you believe, you can ignore me? You didn't even ask before deciding to cut ties with me, did you?" 0

I stammered, "I didn't..." 0

Chen Jiehua playfully slapped me, "You didn't? If I don't reach out to you, you won't reach out to me. If I don't say a word, you won't say anything either. You jerk!" 0

Her slaps weren't hard, but they landed right on my sore spot, sending a sharp pain through me. 0

"Ow~~~," I winced in pain. 0

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you!" she exclaimed. 0

Cui Jie looked anxious as she leaned down gently to check my injury. 0

For a moment, her hair brushed against my face, and a sweet fragrance enveloped me, causing my heart to race... 0

Suddenly, the door swung open with a bang as Cao Feng returned. 0

" Hua, I almost forgot! director Zhang said... uh, never mind, I didn't see anything. You two carry on," Cao Feng said before turning to leave. 0

Cui Jie's face flushed slightly as she called out to the doorway, "Cao Feng, come back!" 0

Cao Feng peeked in with a grin. 0

Cui Jie feigned annoyance, "I accidentally touched Hua's wound; it hurts! And look at you acting all casual." 0

Cao Feng laughed, "Oh, look at you worried! I think this guy did it on purpose." 0

A deep blush spread across Cui Jie's face. 0

I shot him a glare. "Why are you making such a fuss? What did director Zhang say?" 0

" director Zhang said to let you rest properly. Your camera work can wait until you're better." 0

I raised an eyebrow. "That's it?" 0

Cao Feng nodded earnestly. "Yep, that's it." 0

"You act like it's some big deal; don't you know we're in a hospital?" 0

I wanted to shout but as soon as I opened my mouth, the pain from my head injury flared up. In the end, my shout turned into a pitiful whimper. 0

Cui Jie gently patted me and said, "Don't speak, don't move." I had never been so obedient before, instantly suppressing my urge to talk. 0

Cao Feng chuckled, "I'm fine now. The message has been delivered. You all continue; I'm leaving. Bye!" With that, he slipped away like the wind. 0

Cui Jie and I exchanged glances, a playful smile dancing in her eyes. The tension in my heart eased, and I felt an overwhelming sense of relief. 0

Cui Jie’s expression turned serious as she extended her hand. "Give it to me." 0

I was taken aback. "What?" 0

Cui Jie shot me a glare. "My birthday gift!" 0

I cleared my throat. "Um, it's in my pocket..." 0

Cui Jie retrieved the hairpin, examined it closely for a moment, then put it on and looked at herself in the mirror before sitting down in front of me, staring intently. 0

Her gaze made me feel a bit uneasy, so I tentatively asked, "You... don't like it?" 0

Cui Jie changed the subject. "The company is preparing two major productions. director Zhang is interested in having you take on a leading role in one of them." 0

I was stunned, thinking to myself, how did we get from here to there? Do women's thoughts really jump around like this? Then I felt a spark of excitement: "Really?" 0

Cui Jie mischievously smiled. "Of course! Want to know who the female lead is?" 0

I was taken aback. "Isn't it you?" 0

Cui Jie pouted. "I'm playing the female lead in the other production." 0

"Uh, then who will it be?" 0

Cui Jie grinned slyly. "In your production, it's our class's flower, Huang Liling." 0

I was a bit surprised but not shocked. "She turned down several roles before this one; it's unexpected that she accepted this one." 0

Cui Jie nodded. "Yes, she has high standards for scripts and won't take on anything subpar. That's something we should learn from." 0

I agreed. "You all are worth learning from." 0

Cui Jie teased, "Oh, such sweet talk! Tell me, are you excited?" 0

I replied, "I am a bit excited." 0

Cui Jie added with a grin, "Oh, just a little excited? Your heart must be blooming with joy!" 0

I was speechless. "What does that have to do with anything? I was talking about this play." 0

Cui Jie leaned in and chuckled, "Did I say you were talking about people?" 0

I was at a loss for words. "I can't argue with you." 0

Cui Jie smirked, "Exposed, huh?" 0

I forced a laugh. "Not at all. What have I done? Exposed myself?" 0

Cui Jie leaned closer and asked, "With Huang Liling's great conditions—she's beautiful and talented—aren't you tempted?" 0

Her bright, curious eyes sparkled with interest. 0

I shook my head, then nodded slightly. 0

Cui Jie blinked and murmured, "First shaking your head, then nodding means you're interested." 0

After saying that, she stood up. 0

I don't know where I found the courage, but I grabbed her arm and said, "You're also beautiful and talented. I'm interested, but not in her." 0

Cui Jie froze for a moment, then a blush crept onto her cheeks as she reached out to ruffle my hair while saying, "Let me see if your brain is still injured." 0

I held her hand; she tried to pull away, but I winced to show it hurt. 0

She stopped moving and let me hold her hand, asking, "What do you want?" 0

I replied, "You haven't answered me yet." 0

She asked softly, "What?" 0

I said, "The hairpin. Do you like it?" 0

She pouted. "The one I wanted isn't nice." 0

I laughed. 0

She asked, "What are you laughing at?" 0

I said, "Then I'll give you another one that you didn't ask for but I'm offering anyway." 0

"What is it?" 0

"Me." 0

"Full of yourself." 0
