Before the Wedding's Uncertainties
We are getting married!
My name is Xuan Xuan, and I have accompanied Fu Yi from having nothing to becoming wealthy. Our story began when I was twenty-four; Fu Yi, three years older than me, had already been navigating the business world for a few years. At that time, he had just started a company and urgently needed staff, especially young people like me who had just entered the workforce. He attracted me with a hopeful vision, and I joined his team. From that moment on, we experienced countless days and nights together, staying up late to meet deadlines and drinking until we were sick to entertain clients. Even when other companies offered me higher salaries, I never wavered.
One night three years ago, after a drinking session, Fu Yi finally mustered the courage to confess his feelings: "Xuan Xuan, now that the company is on track, we've fought hard for so long and know each other best. Will you be my girlfriend?" In that moment, a flood of emotions surged within me—joy, gratitude, excitement intertwined. I liked him not just for his handsome face but also for his dedication to dreams and love for life. So, without hesitation, I agreed.
Since then, our relationship has grown stronger. We witnessed the dawn in Jiangcheng together and lay under the starry sky discussing our future. Once, to secure an important project, we drank with clients until dawn. On the way back, Fu Yi suddenly asked the driver to stop and pulled me into the center of the square. With a tipsy demeanor, he said, "Xuan Xuan, one day I will move the company building here." That was the most expensive area in Jiangcheng, with an average price of a hundred thousand. I thought he was joking and laughed as I replied, "Go get some sleep; dreams can be anything." But he looked at me seriously, his eyes sparkling like stars, saying, "And I'll buy you a big apartment here."
At that moment, I was completely moved by him. From then on, my feelings for him deepened. The company gradually grew larger, and our branch office was successfully established. At the celebration banquet for the branch office, Fu Yi hugged my shoulders in front of everyone and said, "Without Xuan Xuan, the company wouldn't be where it is today; neither would I. Let's raise a glass to Xuan Xuan." Although it sounded exaggerated, I knew that our efforts over the years had not been in vain.
However, happiness is always fleeting. A week before the wedding, while trying on wedding dresses, I accidentally stumbled upon Fu Yi's ex-girlfriend Du Kaka's TikTok. In the video, she held hands with Fu Yi tightly while text at the bottom read "Still in love." My heart sank instantly. Three minutes later, Fu Yi responded on TikTok: "I want to be intimate with you again." That comment felt like a sharp knife piercing my heart.
The shop assistant noticed my silence and gently asked, "Is there something wrong with the wedding dress?" I looked up at myself in the mirror wearing a pure white wedding dress; it should have filled me with joy but now only forced out a faint smile as I replied, "It's nothing; just a small issue." I stood up and left the fitting room. In the corridor, I called Fu Yi but he hung up on me. Then a message appeared: "In a meeting." Yes, he had just gone on a business trip two days ago for an important project that required his personal involvement. It seemed that project was more important than me.
"Xuan Xuan, what's wrong?" His voice revealed he still didn't know about the turmoil with his ex-girlfriend reaching my ears. I've known Fu Yi for almost five years now.
From my twenty-fourth to my twenty-ninth year of life, I accompanied him from being broke to becoming the owner of two companies. We may not be wealthy aristocrats but we are certainly respected figures in Haicheng. Our initial meeting happened because I was looking for a job after graduation. He was three years older than me but had already started working independently.
The company had just been established and was short-staffed—especially lacking someone like me who had just entered society and could easily be lured by promises of success. His vision captivated me so much that over these five years I've drunk with him until sick countless times while working tirelessly to meet deadlines. Even when other companies offered higher salaries trying to poach me later on, I never considered leaving. I rose from an intern to become one of the company's leaders.
Three years ago after one drinking session he confessed his feelings: "Xuan Xuan now that the company is stable and we've fought together for so long and understand each other well—will you be my girlfriend?" I didn't want to give up someone who treated me so well and had been by my side for so long; I was genuinely happy at that moment.
After all, by then I had secretly liked him for quite some time; it was easy to fall for him given his charming face. We had witnessed many sunrises in Jiangcheng together while rushing projects or lying under vast starry skies after entertaining clients with drinks until dawn—enduring sneers and setbacks together along the way. Once again during another project negotiation we drank until dawn; on our way back through Jiangcheng's square he asked the driver to stop and pulled me into the center of it all saying confidently: "Xuan Xuan one day I'll move our company building here." That area boasted an average price of a hundred thousand—a truly upscale neighborhood.
I laughed and said to him, "Why don't you wash up and go to sleep? In dreams, anything is possible." Suddenly, he turned to me, looking serious as he said, "By the way, I'll buy you a spacious apartment here." As he looked at me, the entire starry sky reflected in his eyes, and his smile was almost dazzling. His tone was so earnest. I think that was the moment I truly fell for him.
