Zhou Shiwan was tightly embraced by them, her body stiff as wood.
Lin Ziping asked in disbelief, "Excuse me, are you really Zhou Shiwan's biological parents?"
Zhou Shiwan's Biological Mother excitedly grasped Lin Ziping's hand. "Yes, young man, you must be my daughter's partner."
Lin Ziping forced a smile. "Yes."
Zhou Shiwan's Biological Mother shoved a blue cloth bag into Lin Ziping's arms. "What's this?"
"Fresh vegetables from our home garden, consider it a gift for meeting you."
"What? Vegetables?" Lin Ziping looked confused. "No need for that, Auntie."
"Auntie insists you take it; we’ll be family from now on, so don’t be polite. I know city folks can’t get such fresh produce, so I brought it specially."
This scene should have been touching. Unfortunately, it appeared rather comical.
I turned to Jiang Mingyue and found her face clouded with frost, showing no recognition of the three people before us.
Noticing my gaze, her expression softened instantly, and the corners of her mouth lifted slightly. "Have you seen enough? It’s time to leave."
"True, watching this kind of drama gets boring after a while."
Zhou's Father said to Zhou Shiwan, "Go back with your biological parents; we've packed your things and will send them over in a few days. That’s all."
Her mother continued to chatter with Lin Ziping: "When do you two plan to get married? I’ll arrange the wedding when we get back."
"That hasn’t been decided yet," Lin Ziping replied with a slight frown. "By the way, Auntie, where do you live?"
"Of course, we’re going back to our hometown in the countryside."
Lin Ziping's tone changed entirely: "The countryside?"
Jiang Mingyue and I returned to our new home. The earlier scene had lifted my spirits, and I hummed a little tune as I walked into the bedroom.
The modern minimalist room was filled with a festive atmosphere.
I heard the sound of a door closing behind me. Jiang Mingyue was taking off her coat, revealing a fitted evening gown that accentuated her perfect figure. "Are you tired?" she asked.
"Not really, I'm quite excited," I replied.
She suddenly let out a light laugh, her delicate fingers brushing against her earrings. "Is that so? I'm excited too."
There was something inexplicably alluring about her demeanor, and I couldn't help but swallow hard. Why did it feel like we were talking about different things?
In this first marriage, I felt completely at a loss, racking my brain for something to say. Suddenly, I felt a tightening around my waist as Jiang Mingyue wrapped her arms around me from behind.
"Song Song, you've been paying too much attention to unimportant people today. It's my turn now," she said softly.
Her warm breath brushed against my ear, causing my heart to race. Just as I was about to speak, her soft lips pressed against mine, silencing me.
Our lips met and lingered for what felt like an eternity before she whispered, "Want to try something exciting?"
"Sure," I said, feigning calmness as I headed to the wardrobe for my pajamas, only to bump into Jiang Mingyue at the bathroom door.
The situation felt a bit awkward.
"You go ahead and wash up," I suggested.
Before I could finish my sentence, she had already grabbed my wrist. With a click, the bathroom door closed behind us, and her kiss came rushing back.
She looked up at me and said, "Song Song, from now on, we are husband and wife."
I vividly remembered her presence on the debate stage. Back then, she was sharp-tongued and graceful, exuding an air of noble elegance.
Was she pretending back then, or had she truly changed?
That question quickly faded away, drowned in a night of passionate entanglement.
The next day.
As Jiang Mingyue was getting ready to head to work, I was still lost in my dreams. I had stayed up late last night, and at this moment, I was too tired to open my eyes.
"Honey, I'm off to the office."
