The submarine executed a sharp turn under the helmsman's command, as an unidentified flying object launched from the seabed drew ever closer on the radar. Fortunately, the Virginia-class submarine had detected the anomaly in time. The unidentified flying object narrowly grazed the submarine's turbine before soaring towards the distant surface of the sea, where it exploded moments later—revealing itself to be an anti-ship missile.
The crew inside the submarine remained in a state of shock. At such depths, had that torpedo struck the hull, survival would have been highly unlikely, especially with members of the Task Force aboard, equipped with advanced weaponry.
“Calling the submarine, do you require assistance?” An Xiaotian communicated with the vessel.
The captain let out a sigh of relief in the command room and replied, “All is normal, Fierce Eagle. Continue your operations; we will coordinate as needed.”
“They're right below us!” An Xiaotian pointed towards deeper waters.
“Then let's take them out!” Nars responded eagerly. Both their thrusters surged to maximum output, diving down like swordfish, hurtling towards the most elusive internal human stronghold.
As they descended further, Nars's analysis visor detected the protruding muzzle of an underwater cannon. At that moment, the cannon was no longer targeting the submarine but had turned to aim at Fierce Eagle and Blue Face Hero.
Faced with the dark maw of the cannon, they did not retreat; instead, they instinctively drew their weapons—Fierce Eagle unlocked his Battle Sword Groove and switched his battle sword to laser cannon mode. A time portal appeared behind Blue Face Hero, readying a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher from his arsenal. Under Liu Xuan's visor lock, he launched twenty small warheads that followed closely behind Fierce Eagle's laser beam like blooming light pillars entwined with petals.
The underwater cannon fired a second round, but it was swiftly intercepted mid-flight by Blue Face Hero's micro-warheads. The laser sliced past it, creating a muffled explosion beneath the sea; the flames existed for only a fleeting moment before vanishing. The laser did not collide with the missile but struck the edge of the Dome Shield instead. Although it did not penetrate completely under such brief exposure, red-black cracks appeared on the shield’s surface and began to heal almost immediately.
“Xiaotian, they have another cannon!” Liu Xuan shouted.
In his holographic analysis visor, he saw another cannon protruding from the western side of the dome. As its iron armor unfolded, it aimed directly at them!
“Celestial Warriors, watch out! Nine o'clock direction—another cannon has appeared!” The captain of the Virginia-class submarine issued a warning almost simultaneously. Just then, Nars unlocked a 'Backdrop' style Plasma Barrier from his Third-Order Space-Time Equipment Library and waved his hand; a semi-circular shield materialized in front of them, protecting both Fierce Eagle and himself from this incoming shot. The cannon’s power was immense; after it exploded, it seemed to shake the entire sea area, even causing fish several nautical miles away to flip belly-up—likely unable to withstand such shockwaves.
“That was close! If it weren't for Nars's equipment, my battle shield would have struggled to hold up,” Fierce Eagle said as he lowered his recently deployed shield. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed energy fluctuations coming from his right—the previously healing dome shield had lost its energy ripples. Through his viewport, he could see that those ripples vanished without a trace in mere moments.
Seeing this unfold sparked a bold idea in Fierce Eagle’s mind. He turned to ask Blue Face Hero: “Nars, based on your experience, how much energy do you think that last shot required?”
“Very significant; it was likely a full-power shot after overloading,” Nars analyzed. “Fortunately, my third-order equipment Curry has countermeasures.”
“Then it’s exactly as I imagined!” Fierce Eagle exclaimed. “In deep sea conditions like these, their energy systems struggle to supply power; thus their energy pathways are relatively simple. All their firepower and defense systems draw from a single source. Since their Dome Shield hasn’t healed after that last shot, we can coordinate with the submarine to absorb their next shot and let their torpedo breach that dome!”
“Good idea!” Blue Face Hero agreed. “Let’s draw fire from that cannon and buy time for the submarine to launch its torpedo!”
“Calling the submarine; we need your cooperation! Aim at where we initially attacked; once they fire again, deliver a devastating blow to their Dome Shield!” Fierce Eagle instructed over the channel.
“Submarine received; torpedoes are armed.”
However, the operator of that cannon was clever; seeing that it could not harm the Celestial Warriors, they redirected their target towards the human submarine. Blue Face Hero quickly maneuvered through the water and reached in front of it just before it fired again. He spread his arms wide to manifest his field and positioned his 'Backdrop' shield in front of the incoming missile. The cannon exploded against Blue Face Hero’s shield once more; however, this time it shattered a hole through it. The immense force combined with rushing water sent Blue Face Hero tumbling away.
“Now’s our chance! Fire!” Fierce Eagle commanded.
As expected by Fierce Eagle, there were no signs of healing on the previously damaged Dome Shield after the cannon fired again. With Blue Face Hero’s protection in place, the submarine launched its torpedo just in time; it detonated at the spot where they had previously struck against the dome. Amidst flames and debris from deep within the ocean came sounds of shattering—confirming that they had breached an opening in the Dome Shield!
“Nars, Liu Xuan, assist Submarine in dealing with that cannon,” Fierce Eagle ordered. “Calling Submarine; Sonar scan this entire underwater structure and transmit images for our next move.”
The current sonar detection technology has made significant advancements and improvements compared to the early 21st century, especially in military equipment where advanced sonar technology can now detect and locate enemies hiding behind obstacles, displaying their outlines.
Soon, a dynamic image appeared on the screen of the Fierce Eagle. Through the breach in the Dome Shield, sonar detected numerous silhouettes hiding within the semi-circular underwater bunker. The moment sonar scanned them, it retained their poses. The Fierce Eagle could see that the internal humans in the bunker seemed quite busy; some were transporting something while most appeared to be armed and on high alert.
It seemed that once they entered the bunker, a fierce battle would ensue. The Fierce Eagle retracted its mechanical wings and began to strategize. If it ventured alone without Blue Face Hero and the Submarine, it was likely that the enemy had already set traps specifically for such an approach. Acting solo would be reckless; it needed to wait for Blue Face Hero to coordinate an attack together. However, Blue Face Hero was still protecting the Submarine, and if the internal humans' artillery were destroyed, any remaining energy could be used to allow the Dome Shield to continue healing. If it truly healed, the hard-won opportunity would be wasted. The Fierce Eagle needed to enter first to ensure the mission could proceed.
The Fierce Eagle's advantage lay in its powerful firepower, but at that moment, it felt there was no opportunity to leverage that strength. "If I can breach any part of this bunker with heavy firepower from my armor after getting past the shield, perhaps the influx of seawater will assist me by clearing traps while also creating a path for me. The Fierce Eagle Armor can help me maintain balance underwater; this would be a significant advantage... Let's give it a try!"
With determination made, the Fierce Eagle did not wait for Blue Face Hero and flew toward the breach alone. "An Xiaotian, don't act alone! Come back!" Blue Face Hero exclaimed anxiously as he saw the Fierce Eagle flying into the dome's gap. He understood better than anyone how cunning the internal humans could be; the Fierce Eagle couldn't handle this alone unless it truly had confidence and a plan.
Ultimately unable to shake off his worries, Blue Face Hero saw that artillery had been destroyed by torpedoes launched from the Submarine. He retracted his Backdrop-style barrier and activated his Thruster to quickly fly toward the breach.
"Captain, The Celestial Warriors have broken through," reported the Submarine operator from his seat as he turned to address the captain standing behind him.
"Notify Task Force to follow immediately and prepare for combat. The Submarine will wait outside for support," ordered the captain.
"Received the order to attack! The team will take action immediately! Go, go!"
All members of Task Force donned state-of-the-art underwater combat suits, equipped with specially modified weapons capable of functioning underwater. They swam out from the Submarine alongside Blue Face Hero into the breach, ready to engage in combat with the internal humans.
At this moment, the Fierce Eagle had already entered inside the Dome Shield. It spotted an entrance to the bunker but had no intention of entering through that door. The Fierce Eagle raised its arm as a mini missile pod called Wolf Spider emerged from its armor. With two loud bangs, mini missiles were launched and easily detonated against the bunker. The structure collapsed as torrents of seawater rushed in, sweeping away those internal humans who were prepared for battle amidst screams and gurgles as they were submerged.
The bunker began flooding; it was only a matter of time before it was completely submerged.
Inside the bunker, "Activate emergency drainage immediately! Hurry!" commanded a Stalker. "Heavy infantry, do not retreat! Buy time for everyone else! The rest retreat to the storage room; it's elevated and prepare defenses! We must hold onto the Quantum String Engine Locator at all costs; it's our last one!"
She directed everyone to fall back while there was still time before seawater reached the storage room containing the Quantum String Engine Locator. She transformed into a shadow and concealed herself beneath a flickering light—this was one of the few rooms still illuminated despite power being affected by seawater; only in shadows could she utilize her super abilities.
Meanwhile, at the outermost front line, Fierce Eagle charged into the corridor of the bunker. At this point, water had not yet reached knee-deep inside; Heavy Infantry had weight and defensive advantages that formed a wall blocking Fierce Eagle outside.
"Get out of my way," Fierce Eagle drew its battle sword. "I might spare you if you let me pass; otherwise, don’t blame me for being merciless."
However, since Heavy Infantry had already taken their positions here, they were prepared to face death and fight fiercely against Fierce Eagle until one side perished. They fired their weapons faster than Fierce Eagle could react; gunfire from Neutron assault rifles echoed throughout the corridor.
Though protected by armor, Fierce Eagle instinctively raised its left hand as a Particle Shield unfolded—not just against these rifles but against a heavy weapon drawn by one of Heavy Infantry—the Light Sphere Cannon. The Light Sphere Cannon fired off a massive orange orb that slowly floated into view but directly pulled Fierce Eagle into mid-air; as it grew larger, it seemed intent on enveloping Fierce Eagle within itself to slowly digest him!
