The little girl bounced over, grabbed Tang Mufeng's hand, and stuffed a bag of candy into it, smiling brightly, "Brother Tang Mufeng, this is the candy I brought for you! You should try it!"
Tang Mufeng accepted the candy, gently ruffled the little girl's hair, and said softly, "Thank you."
The little girl giggled and ran off.
Tang Mufeng picked up a piece of candy, unwrapped it, and held it to my lips. "Miss, have a piece of candy."
I stared at him in a daze.
He sighed lightly and said, "Miss, why aren't you wearing something warmer?"
It was then that I realized I was only wearing a thin shirt, and I felt cold all over.
"I'm fine," I forced a smile.
Tang Mufeng frowned. "You’ll catch a cold like this."
"You know I can get sick?" I couldn't help but raise my voice.
Tang Mufeng fell silent.
I took a deep breath and softened my tone. "Tang Mufeng, I just want to ask you one question."
"What is it?"
"Do you have me in your heart?" I looked straight into his eyes.
Tang Mufeng gazed back at me quietly for a long moment before slowly saying, "Miss, you are my master; everything I have belongs to you."
My heart raced wildly.
"Does that include... your heart?" I pressed on.
A complex expression flickered across Tang Mufeng's face.
"Yes," he said softly. "Miss, my heart is always thinking of you; all my thoughts are with you."
My cheeks burned with heat.
Was he telling the truth? Could I really trust him?
I couldn't suppress the joy swelling inside me.
It felt as if snow had fallen in my world, with sunlight shining on the snow-covered ground, reflecting a dazzling light.
"Very good," I said with a smile, reaching out to poke his chest. "You heard me right; I think you misunderstood—"
"Wait a moment." Tang Mufeng suddenly interrupted me.
I froze, looking at him in confusion.
"Miss," Tang Mufeng frowned and said softly, "what do you mean by that?"
I immediately stiffened.
Oh no, in my excitement, I had completely reversed my lines!
"I meant to say, I think you misunderstood that I don't like you."
I quickly corrected myself.
"What I mean is that I really like you, is that clear?"
Tang Mufeng looked even more puzzled. "But you clearly said before…"
"That was before," I asserted firmly. "Now I like you, is that a problem?"
Tang Mufeng lowered his head for a moment in silence, then he chuckled to himself: "Hmm, that's more like it."
What?
I looked at him suspiciously. What did he mean by that?
"Miss, miss." Tang Mufeng lifted his head and smiled gently at me. "This version of you is just right."
I was speechless.
His smile was pure and clean, his gaze steady and focused, as if nothing in this world could shake his conviction.
Suddenly, I felt that my previous words and actions had indeed been a bit… too unreserved.
Clearing my throat twice, I said, "Um, I was just giving an example; I didn't really mean that I want to be with you…"
"I know," Tang Mufeng said with a smile. "I will wait for you."
I was speechless. Why did it seem like he was getting happier with every smile?
The next day, when I woke up from my hangover, I found myself lying in the barracks. Beside me was Tang Mufeng, looking quite satisfied.
I immediately realized that everyone must know about our relationship now. A wave of embarrassment and shame washed over me, and I wished I could just disappear into a crack in the ground.
Meanwhile, Tang Mufeng seemed unfazed. He casually turned to look at me, even humming a cheerful tune. I glared at him in a mix of anger and humiliation, but he just winked back at me, a smirk playing on his lips.
