Liu Yuan looked at Chen Yan and asked, "What's wrong?"
Chen Yan replied, "Nothing."
Liu Yuan remained silent and took Beibei inside.
Chen Yan turned to him and said, "Mr. Fu, long time no see."
Fu Shaokang looked at him, surprised. "You know me?"
Chen Yan smiled, "Yuan Yuan often mentions you."
Fu Shaokang raised an eyebrow, "Is that so?"
Chen Yan nodded.
Fu Shaokang didn't respond.
Chen Yan continued, "I didn't expect you to be married; your child is already so big."
Fu Shaokang chuckled, "Yeah, I didn't expect it either."
Chen Yan added, "Yuan Yuan and I are married too; our daughter is six now."
Fu Shaokang looked at him in disbelief. "Really?"
Chen Yan smiled again, "Yes, I'll bring her out to play next time."
Fu Shaokang nodded, "Sounds good."
Chen Yan said, "Well, I’ll head over now."
Fu Shaokang replied, "Alright."
Chen Yan turned and walked away.
Fu Shaokang watched his retreating figure, narrowing his eyes.
What did he just say? He and Liu Yuan are married and have a child? How could that be? How could Liu Yuan marry him?
He had gone to the bar to drown his sorrows because of Liu Yuan. He loved her so much, yet she married a man he didn’t even know.
He was unwilling to accept it.
Fu Shaokang took out his phone and dialed a number. "Hello, please check Chen Yan's marital status for me." After he finished speaking, he hung up the call.
He squinted, his gaze turning cold.
...
Liu Yuan and Chen Yan walked into the restaurant with Beibei. The three of them sat down and began to order.
Chen Yan looked at Liu Yuan. "That man earlier, is he your childhood friend?"
Liu Yuan glanced at him. "Yes."
Chen Yan continued, "You haven't seen each other in a long time, right?"
Liu Yuan replied, "Yes, he went abroad before and just returned."
Chen Yan nodded. "Oh."
Liu Yuan then asked, "What's wrong with you?"
Chen Yan responded, "Nothing."
Liu Yuan fell silent, lowering her head to look at the menu.
Chen Yan asked again, "Are you close with him?"
Liu Yuan answered, "It's okay."
Chen Yan remarked, "He seems to really like you."
Liu Yuan lifted her head to meet his gaze. "What are you trying to say?"
Chen Yan replied, "Nothing."
Liu Yuan looked at him firmly. "We're just ordinary friends."
Chen Yan said, "Oh."
Liu Yuan pressed on, "Do you not believe me?"
Chen Yan shook his head. "No."
Liu Yuan challenged him, "Then why did you ask me that question?"
Chen Yan looked at her. "I'm just curious."
Liu Yuan remained silent, lowering her head to continue looking at the menu.
Chen Yan watched her without saying a word.
Beibei looked at them. "Mom and Dad, can you stop arguing, please?"
Liu Yuan glanced at her. "We're not arguing."
Beibei looked at her again. "Then can you order faster? I'm hungry."
Liu Yuan smiled. "Okay, Mom will order soon."
Beibei nodded. "Alright."
Liu Yuan turned to Chen Yan. "What do you want to eat?"
Chen Yan replied, "Anything."
Liu Yuan looked at him. "There's no 'anything' here."
Chen Yan responded, "Then you just decide."
Liu Yuan nodded. "Okay."
She lowered her head and began to order from the menu. Once the order was placed, the waiter took the menu away.
Liu Yuan turned to Beibei. "We can eat soon; just hang in there a little longer."
Beibei nodded. "Mm."
Liu Yuan asked her, "Do you need to go to the bathroom?"
Beibei shook her head. "No."
Liu Yuan continued, "Then why don't you drink some water?"
She handed Beibei her water cup.
Beibei took the cup and had a sip.
Liu Yuan then looked at Chen Yan. "Do you want some water?"
Chen Yan replied, "No, thanks."
Liu Yuan didn't say anything further and took a sip from her own cup.
Chen Yan looked at her and asked, "Do you see Fu Shaokang often?"
Liu Yuan replied, "No, I just happened to run into him today."
Chen Yan responded with an "Oh."
Liu Yuan then asked, "Why do you keep asking me this question?"
Chen Yan shrugged, "I was just curious."
Liu Yuan fell silent, lowering her gaze to the patterns on the table.
Chen Yan continued, "Do you keep in touch with him?"
Liu Yuan shook her head, "No."
Chen Yan pressed on, "Not even once?"
Liu Yuan shook her head again, "No."
Chen Yan inquired, "Then why don't you contact him?"
Liu Yuan looked at him defiantly, "Why should I contact him?"
Chen Yan replied, "You two are friends."
Liu Yuan clarified, "We played together as kids for a while, but we haven't really kept in touch since."
Chen Yan nodded, "Oh."
Liu Yuan then asked, "Why are you so concerned about my affairs?"
Chen Yan smiled softly and said, "Because you're my wife."
Liu Yuan didn't respond but felt her cheeks flush.
Seeing her blush made Chen Yan find her adorable, and he couldn't help but smile.
Beibei interjected, looking at them, "Mom and Dad, can you stop talking about boring stuff and eat already?"
Liu Yuan turned to her and said, "Okay."
Beibei then asked eagerly, "Can I have a cookie first?"
Liu Yuan smiled and replied, "Sure."
Beibei beamed back at her, saying, "Thank you, Mom."
Liu Yuan chuckled softly, "You're welcome."
Beibei took a cookie and started eating it.
Liu Yuan looked at her and said, "Eat slowly, don't choke."
Beibei nodded in response.
...
The food was served, and the three of them began to eat.
Chen Yan helped Beibei with her food, piling her plate high.
Beibei looked at him and said, "Dad, I can't finish this."
Chen Yan replied, "Then just eat a little more."
Beibei insisted, "I really can't finish it."
Chen Yan suggested, "Just leave it there. Once I'm done, I'll help you finish it."
Beibei frowned, "But that would be wasteful."
Chen Yan chuckled, "It won't be. Dad won't let you waste food."
Beibei asked, "Really?"
Chen Yan nodded, "Really."
Beibei smiled and said, "Thank you, Dad."
Chen Yan responded, "You're welcome. Now eat up."
Beibei lowered her head and began to eat.
Chen Yan watched her with a smile and added a piece of fish to her plate.
Beibei looked at the fish in her bowl and said, "Dad, I can't eat fish."
Chen Yan asked, "Why not?"
Beibei replied, "I'm allergic to fish."
Chen Yan said, "Then eat something else."
Beibei nodded in agreement.
