Racing at full speed, the carriage returned to the castle in just four days.
Everything and everyone in Josie's home was left far behind, but the pain left for Daphne was something she couldn't shake off. After all, she had been bitten on the neck by a vampire she didn't like, even detested, and even though he hadn't taken much of her blood, Daphne could never forget the feeling of his fangs sinking deep into her neck.
The wound was too deep, and Daphne had three layers of bandages wrapped around her neck, but she still couldn't take them off when she got home.
Bell's desperate bite did pierce her artery and hurt her windpipe. Although it healed in no time, her neck still aches every time she speaks.
Miller also saw his sister so silent for the first time. This silence was different from her usual quietness when she didn't need to speak; it was a kind of unwillingness to talk, a form of withdrawal.
It seemed that there was nothing that could make her happy anymore, as if all the interesting things in the world were no longer relevant to her.
Miller has given Daphne a two-month leave, partly to help her recover emotionally and partly for next month's Wedding.
He really wants to hold his sister and tell her seriously that he doesn't mind her being bitten by someone, and even if she is... he wouldn't mind, because he loves her and wouldn't care about what she feels is "losing her chastity."
However, Miller knew that Daphne minded a lot. Because he had once told her that if it was just the two of them for a lifetime, Daphne would care a lot about the purity between them.
For the first time, Miller really wanted to beat up his past self for speaking nonsense at the banquet. Now, only the letters sent from the Arabella family every few days could barely ease his mood.
Daphne refuses to go down to the garden pond to play every day, just sitting on her balcony, holding a cup of blood and staring blankly at the stars in the sky.
Miller pushed open the bedroom door, looking at her delicate figure, and walked up behind her.
"Flora……"
He hugged his sister from behind, his cheek against her cold face, and closed his eyes. "If, I mean if, if one day, a vampire stronger than me appears, and she forcibly drinks my blood, I wouldn't even be able to die with her."
Daphne listened to his words, her eyelashes quivering and her brows furrowing, as if she could imagine a feeling that pained her heart.
"Flora, do you still want to love me?" Miller asked her.
Daphne raised her hand and placed it on his arm, saying softly, "I love my brother."
"Then why are you unwilling to forgive your brother? Are you hating him for not protecting you? Brother won't make the same mistake again. Can Flora please not be sad anymore?"
Daphne leaned against Miller's chest, tears slowly streaming down from her eyes: "But, but I was bitten... brother, I was bitten by someone."
"You didn't betray me, you weren't willing." Miller gently licked away the tears on her face and said softly, "Don't be upset, Flora, I want to truly make a commitment with you about everything between us."
"Agreement?"
"Yes, an agreement on the principles between us. For example, the first rule, the physical chastity can never be placed above the innermost."
Daphne turned her head and stared blankly at the face in front of her. In her brother's eyes, she saw seriousness, without a trace of cajoling.
"Of course, until it's absolutely necessary, one should never actively seek out relationships with other people."
He said, "I just want you to know that this really isn't a big deal. After all, too many couples go looking for lovers after marriage. Compared to them, you and I are already a good example of Deep love between a goosefish and a plaice."
"But, brother said that our bodies and hearts can only belong to each other."
"The fact that a thief holds something in his hand for a while does not mean that the thing belongs to him."
Daphne further asks, "What else?"
"Anything else?"
"Yes, what other agreements are there?"
Miller looked at her and pretended to think for a while, "I haven't thought of it yet. Let's decide later."
"Brother, you're so casual." Daphne reached out and pinched his face, her eyes curved like crescent moons, finally showing a smile.
Miller focused on her smile, suddenly reached out and took her right hand.
"Daphne Van Zandt." He took out a ring and aimed it at her finger. "I want to live with you until the end of the world. Will you marry me?"
