Lucia entered from the doorway and was startled to see the rose pinned behind the young lady's ear. She asked, "Miss, is this from Lord William for you?"
Daphne touched her ear and nodded gently.
Lucia wanted to persuade her to take it off, but seeing her expression, she asked tentatively, "Do you really like it, Miss?"
Daphne took it off and placed it on the table, shaking her head, "No, I can't accept this. It belongs to Mr. William."
Even if she wants to wear flowers, she can only wear the ones she picked herself and the ones her brother picked for her.
Lucia saw that she understood and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Miller feels that something is not quite right today.
He couldn't say why, only that it was an inexplicable intuition.
He signed the last name on the document, and the pen left a flying ink mark on the paper before he capped it and put it back in the pen holder.
Miller shook the bell and, when Louis entered, looked at him expressionlessly and asked, "What is Daphne doing now?"
Louis felt a cold sweat on the back of his neck and answered with lowered eyes, "Miss Daphne is in the garden."
If you're still playing in the fountain pool, then Louis will tell Daphne directly like before.
Miller squinted, clasping his hands under his chin. Staring at his guilty expression, he became more certain of his thoughts and pressed on, "She's in the garden? Where, doing what?"
"The lady is in the western pavilion... admiring the moon."
Miller looked at him for a long time, then suddenly smiled meaningfully and said, "Louis, are you too busy recently? Maybe I should have Terry come over from the branch to help you share some of the workload?"
Terry is the steward of the second branch, with power second only to Louis.
Louis pulled out a handkerchief, somewhat resigned, and said, "It's too late, my lord. Miss has already met Lord William, and now Lord William has left."
Miller Before Louis could finish speaking, he stood up, leaning on the table. He casually grabbed his coat from the shelf, not even sparing a glance for the butler, and left the room in big strides like a gust of wind.
Daphne was still walking slowly on her way back, looking down at the ground. Her mind was in a state of chaos, as if she was thinking about something, yet also as if she wasn't thinking about anything at all.
Lucia has been silently following behind her.
Because she was looking straight ahead, she saw the figure that had already walked to the statue in front of her.
Lucia felt a tightness in her shoulders and trembled as she warned Daphne ahead, "Miss... Miss! Look out!"
Daphne shuddered as she raised her head to see her brother approaching with a dark expression. Her mind went blank, and she quickly lifted her skirt and turned to run.
She also remembered to instruct the maid, "Lucia, don't follow me!" She dashed into the maze of trees, wandering around like a headless fly, following her instincts.
I don't know how long I've been walking. I feel like I've reached the center of the maze now, so I stop and listen carefully for any footsteps around me.
There's no sound at all. It seems like I've temporarily lost my brother.
She had just relaxed and let out a sigh of relief when, the next second, a hand suddenly reached out from the bushes, grabbed her arm, and pulled her into the tree inside.
She had never been inside a tree wall inside, and Daphne really didn't know that it was empty inside, with a neatly manicured lawn below, like a little world of its own.
Daphne was so scared that she trembled all over and fell into her brother's arms.
