Chen Yan was away on a business trip.
Liu Yuan glanced at her phone, seeing the messages from Chen Yan.
"I have some matters to attend to these next couple of days and won't be able to see you all," it read.
"But I will call you."
"Let me know what you want to eat or do, and just tell me."
Liu Yuan smiled at the messages and replied with a simple, "Okay."
Chen Yan didn't send any more messages. Liu Yuan set her phone down and turned her attention to the television.
After a while, her phone rang. She took it out and saw that it was a call from Chen Yan.
She answered, "Hello."
"Did you receive the messages I sent earlier?" Chen Yan asked.
"I did," Liu Yuan replied.
"Then I'll hang up now," Chen Yan said.
"Wait," Liu Yuan interjected.
"Is there anything else?" Chen Yan inquired.
"When are you coming back?" Liu Yuan asked.
"I'll be back the day after tomorrow," Chen Yan responded.
"Oh," Liu Yuan said.
"Is there anything else?" Chen Yan repeated.
"Nothing else," Liu Yuan replied.
"Then I'll hang up," Chen Yan said again.
"Okay," Liu Yuan confirmed.
Chen Yan ended the call.
Liu Yuan put down her phone and watched the television. After a while, her phone rang. She took it out and glanced at the caller ID. It was a message from Chen Yan. She opened WeChat and looked at the message. It was a transfer notification. She smiled at the amount of money and said, "What a wealthy person."
She set her phone down and continued watching TV. A little later, her phone rang again. She picked it up to see another message from Chen Yan. Opening WeChat, she read, "This is Beibei's living expenses; you keep it." Liu Yuan smiled at the message and replied, "Thank you." Chen Yan did not send any more messages.
Liu Yuan placed her phone down again and resumed watching TV. The next morning, Liu Yuan got out of bed, finished washing up, and stepped out of the bathroom. She looked at Beibei on the bed and smiled, saying, "Sweetheart, it's time to get up."
Beibei looked at her and said, "Mommy, I don't want to go to kindergarten today."
Liu Yuan asked, "Why don't you want to go?"
Beibei replied, "I want to be with you."
Liu Yuan responded, "No, you have to go to kindergarten."
Beibei sighed and said, "Alright then."
Liu Yuan encouraged her, "Quickly go brush your teeth and wash your face."
Beibei nodded and replied, "Okay."
She ran to the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face. Liu Yuan walked into the living room and looked out the window. She took out her phone and checked WeChat. There were many messages waiting for her. She glanced at them and replied one by one.
After a while, Beibei ran over and looked at her. Liu Yuan turned to her and asked, "What's wrong?" Beibei replied, "Mom, I'm hungry." Liu Yuan responded, "Then I'll go make you breakfast." Beibei nodded, "Okay."
Liu Yuan headed to the kitchen with Beibei following closely behind. They had breakfast together before heading out. Liu Yuan dropped Beibei off at kindergarten and then drove to the shop.
Inside the shop, she examined the renovation materials, pondering how to proceed with the decoration. Suddenly, her phone rang. She pulled it out and checked the caller ID. It was someone from the Renovation Company calling.
She answered the call, saying, "Hello." The person from the Renovation Company asked, "Miss Liu, are you at the shop?" Liu Yuan replied, "Yes, I'm here." The caller responded, "I'll come over now." Liu Yuan said, "Alright," and hung up.
She continued to look at the renovation materials. After a while, someone from the Renovation Company arrived.
They were discussing the renovation plans. After a long discussion, they finally settled on a design. The people from the Renovation Company left. Liu Yuan looked at the renovation materials and took out her phone to check WeChat.
She opened Beibei's WeChat and looked at her living expenses. After a moment of thought, she sent Chen Yan a message: "How much do you give me for Beibei's living expenses each month?"
Chen Yan did not reply. Liu Yuan glanced at her phone, smiled, and said, "Whatever, I have money anyway." She put her phone away and continued to examine the renovation materials.
In the afternoon, Liu Yuan drove to the kindergarten to pick up Beibei and bring her home. Once they were back, Liu Yuan looked at Beibei and said, "Sweetheart, play by yourself while I make dinner."
Beibei replied, "Okay." Liu Yuan walked to the kitchen with Beibei following closely behind. They had dinner together and then watched television.
Suddenly, Liu Yuan's phone rang. She took it out and saw that it was a call from Chen Yan. She answered the phone, saying, "Hello."
Chen Yan asked, "Where are you now?"
Liu Yuan replied, "We're at home."
Chen Yan said, "I'll come over to see you."
Liu Yuan responded, "Aren't you working?"
Chen Yan replied, "I've already finished work."
Liu Yuan said, "Then come on over."
Chen Yan agreed, "Okay."
He hung up the phone.
Liu Yuan put down her phone and looked at the television.
Beibei glanced at her and asked, "Mom, who is coming over?"
Liu Yuan replied, "It's your dad who's coming over."
Beibei looked at her curiously, "Why is he coming?"
Liu Yuan answered, "He's your dad, of course he should come."
Beibei nodded, "Okay then."
They continued watching TV.
After a while, the doorbell rang.
Liu Yuan turned to Beibei and said, "Sweetheart, go answer the door."
Beibei responded, "Okay."
She ran to open the door.
Liu Yuan remained seated, focused on the television.
Beibei opened the door and saw the person outside.
Chen Yan smiled at her and said, "Beibei, I'm here."
Beibei smiled back, "Dad, you’re here."
Chen Yan replied, "Yeah."
He stepped inside and closed the door behind him.
He walked over to Liu Yuan and looked at her.
Liu Yuan greeted him, "You came."
Chen Yan nodded, "Yeah."
Liu Yuan asked, "Have you eaten?"
Chen Yan replied, "I have."
Liu Yuan gestured for him to sit down, "Then please take a seat."
Chen Yan nodded again.
He sat down and watched the television.
Liu Yuan looked at him and asked, "Why did you come over today?"
Chen Yan replied, "I missed you all."
Liu Yuan continued, "You have to work tomorrow. Aren't you tired?"
Chen Yan shook his head, "I'm not tired."
Liu Yuan then asked, "Are you staying here tonight?"
Chen Yan nodded, "Yeah."
Liu Yuan suggested, "Then you should go take a shower first."
Chen Yan agreed, "Okay."
He stood up and walked to the bathroom.
Liu Yuan smiled as she watched his back and said, "What a silly dad."
Beibei looked at her and asked, "Mom, who are you calling a silly dad?"
Liu Yuan replied, "I'm talking about your dad."
Beibei inquired, "Why do you say he's a silly dad?"
Liu Yuan answered, "Because he's really silly."
Beibei pressed further, "Why do you say he's really silly?"
Liu Yuan struggled to find the words.
Beibei persisted, "Why?"
Liu Yuan still couldn't figure out how to respond.
