The journey had been nothing short of madness. Yan Sui Fa struck down every enemy that dared to approach with a thunderous force. However, this came at a heavy cost; only three members of the Squad remained alive.
If it hadn't been for Chen Yang's unexpected breakthrough, the losses could have been even more devastating. Even so, aside from Zhao Yanwu, everyone in the team was injured. With every sacrifice comes a reward, and they finally arrived at the front of the town.
Looking ahead at the dilapidated city walls, they saw people running back and forth, transporting the wounded and the dead, some still stained with blood.
In front of the city gate, a squad of Garrison soldiers watched the four of them with vigilant eyes.
"Who goes there? This town is under martial law! If you advance any further, we will kill without mercy!" A captain stepped forward and shouted at them. Meanwhile, the remaining cannons on the city wall were already aimed at them.
"Dark Realm Squad," Yan Sui Fa called out as he halted and tossed a token from a distance.
The captain took the token and his expression changed drastically. He raised his hand to stop the actions on the city wall and rushed forward.
"Please forgive us, Dark Lord. The town has just been ambushed by Dark Realm; many in the Garrison have perished, and the town has suffered heavy losses. So..."
Yan Sui Fa raised his hand to interrupt him.
"We are on a mission. Take us to the Teleportation Town immediately."
Hearing the captain's words, Yan Sui Fa felt a sinking sensation in his heart. He never expected Dark Realm would go this far, openly attacking even towns.
"This...," the captain hesitated.
"What? Is there a problem?" An unease suddenly gripped Yan Sui Fa.
"Reporting to you, my lord, the town's Teleportation Array was destroyed during the battle." The captain looked at Yan Sui Fa with concern.
"What?" Yan Sui Fa couldn't believe that his worst fear had come true.
"Captain Yan, we can head directly to the Teleportation Array," came Zhao Yanwu's voice from inside the airship.
"Understood," Yan Sui Fa replied, unaware of the cold glint that flashed in the eyes of the captain bowing respectfully before him, which vanished in an instant.
"Lead the way," he gestured to the captain.
The captain hesitated, looking at him with some difficulty.
"What? Is leading the way a problem?" Yan Sui Fa's anger flared at the captain's demeanor.
"My lord, forgive me, but this airship..." The captain glanced at the airship and fell silent.
"Captain Yan, it's fine. There's no need to make things difficult for them; we all need to get out anyway." Just as Yan Sui Fa was about to lose his temper, Zhao Yanwu's voice rang out again.
Upon hearing Zhao Yanwu's intention to come out, Yan Sui Fa felt a wave of anxiety wash over him.
"Sister, no!" But as soon as he spoke, he saw Zhao Yanwu and Chen Yang already stepping out of the airship.
The remaining three squad members immediately formed a Combat Team around the two without needing any orders from Yan Sui Fa.
"You lead the way; let the airship follow on its own," Zhao Yanwu instructed the captain as she emerged. "If you can't take charge, then let someone who can come forward." The first part of her statement was gentle, but her tone carried an undeniable authority in the latter half.
The captain forced a smile. "At this moment, I am the highest-ranking here in town. All other captains have perished in battle."
"What?" Zhao Yanwu was taken aback by how bold the Dark Realm was, willing to incite chaos in the Eastern Victory Continent just to eliminate themselves.
As they disembarked and saw the extent of the destruction on the city walls, it became clear that this battle had been extremely fierce; however, they had not anticipated it would be this devastating.
"How many people do they have?" Yan Sui Fa suddenly asked.
"Reporting, my lord, there are four squads, but all four are 'Golden Punishment,'" the captain said, his face showing sorrow. "Moreover, there are internal traitors in the town. If it weren't for the Garrison and other captains fighting to the death, the town would have already fallen."
"Alright, I understand. Quickly take us to the Teleportation Array," Zhao Yanwu said, his mood growing heavier.
"Yes, please follow me," the captain replied, no longer speaking further. He turned and led the way, but the coldness in his gaze as he turned sent shivers down their spines.
"Sister Wu, be careful," Chen Yang suddenly transmitted a message to Zhao Yanwu.
"I know. Time is tight, and there's nothing we can do about it. Everyone needs to stay alert," Zhao Yanwu replied quietly.
Chen Yang hadn't expected Zhao Yanwu to notice the underlying issues as well. He glanced at Yan Sui Fa, who returned a knowing look.
The Airship hovered above them as they entered the town.
Outside the town, they had only seen severely damaged walls, but upon entering, they discovered that the situation inside was even more horrific.
Ruins were everywhere; blood stained the streets, some flowing down from broken walls. Severed limbs were scattered throughout.
The bodies they saw on the road included not only members of the Garrison but also some residents and external Cultivators. There were even children lying among them.
"Damn Dark Realm," Yan Sui Fa couldn't help but growl upon seeing this scene.
"My lord, due to the suddenness of the incident, we didn't have time to evacuate the residents in the town. It's all our fault!" The captain leading them expressed his self-reproach.
"This isn't your fault; you've done your best. After all, they are four squads of Golden Punishment," Zhao Yanwu comforted him. "I've informed headquarters; soon the War Department will be coming."
Upon hearing this, the captain leading the way ahead paused momentarily.
"This is great."
After navigating through the Town for a while, the Teleportation Array came into view.
"Alright, thank you for your help. You can go about your business now." As they arrived at the Teleportation Array, Zhao Yanwu began to dismiss the captain.
"I take my leave." The captain seemed to understand that it was not appropriate for him to linger at this moment and politely excused himself.
"Yan Captain, you should also take some people along to see if there's anything you can help with. Once the Teleportation Array is repaired, you can come back," Zhao Yanwu instructed.
Yan Sui Fa displayed a puzzled expression on his face before he understood.
"Yes, sister, I know what to do." He then led the remaining three squad members to follow the captain.
Once the group had walked away, Zhao Yanwu quickly got to work, with materials flying out from her storage space one after another.
Chen Yang stood nearby like a guardian deity, vigilantly watching the surroundings.
"The Array Witch truly lives up to her title; she is indeed the foremost array master of the Eastern Victory Continent. I never expected she could even repair the Teleportation Array," Xing Kong remarked to the other three from somewhere in the void.
"Indeed, it's a pity that such a beauty will soon meet her demise. I wonder who could place such a bounty on her," Xing E said, his gaze fixed on Zhao Yanwu with a hint of lewdness.
"When do we strike?" Xing Yun also looked at Zhao Yanwu with burning eyes.
"Let's wait a bit longer; I have a feeling something isn't right," Xing Kong waved his hand dismissively.
"That girl has already seen through Poo Er's identity." Xian Lan was also looking down, but his gaze was fixed on the Airship above.
Indeed, since entering the town, not only Yan Sui Fa but also Zhao Yanwu had noticed something amiss. After the battle, as the highest authority in the town, he should have been busy coordinating within the town, yet he stood guard at the town gate. Moreover, he showed no signs of fatigue from the Battle, which raised suspicions.
"Let her see through it; it doesn't matter. Just wait a bit longer," Xing Kong replied noncommittally. Xian Lan couldn't be bothered to respond further.
Zhao Yanwu knew this was a trap, but she had no choice but to jump in; time constraints left her with no options.
At that moment, she understood why Zuo Dao had shared the method to repair the Teleportation Array with her before collapsing. It seemed he had anticipated this situation long ago.
Now, Zhao Yanwu didn't dwell on it too much; one material after another transformed into array stones under her hands. She had to thank the Celestial Realm for its emphasis on the Teleportation Array. Each Teleportation Array was incredibly sturdy; even if damaged, it could not be completely destroyed.
Even limited damage could render a Teleportation Array completely ineffective. A single error in the Teleportation Array could lead to unforeseen complications during Teleportation.
After several hours passed, the repair of the Teleportation Array was nearing completion. By this time, Yan Sui Fa had returned from his patrol, with the captain closely following him.
As the last glimmer of light faded from Zhao Yanwu's fingertips, Chen Yang noticed that at that moment, Yan Sui Fa launched an attack on the captain behind him. The other three team members also charged toward the captain simultaneously after their attack began.
"Attack," Xing Kong quickly sprang into action upon seeing this scene.
Although the captain remained vigilant, he did not expect several people to attack him at once. In less than a breath's time, he was killed without even having a chance to call for help.
With their strike successful, the five quickly protected Zhao Yanwu and moved beneath the Airship. At this point, numerous figures had already appeared around the Teleportation Array.
"The array Witch truly possesses remarkable skills; I admire you," said Xing Kong, as he and the other four emerged from the void.
"What else does your Dark Realm know besides these despicable tactics?" Zhao Yanwu's breath was somewhat unsteady; repairing the Teleportation Array had been a strain for her. Fortunately, she had finally succeeded in the repair, though it had taken a considerable toll on her energy.
"We don't want to be enemies with you, Dark Realm. It's just that orders came from above, and we are powerless to resist. If you have any grievances, please don't hold it against us after this," Xing Kong said nonchalantly, as if taking a few lives was nothing significant.
"Safe travels."
This phrase seemed to be a signal. Just as it ended, countless attacks rained down. Fireballs, wind blades, lightning strikes, and dark spikes all converged, accompanied by a beam of Dao Sword light.
While everyone was launching their attacks at the six individuals, only Xian Lan led his team to assault the Airship.
With a buzzing sound.
Just as the attacks were about to land, a curtain of light suddenly descended from the Airship, enveloping everyone along with the Airship itself. The word "Protect" faintly appeared on the curtain.
"Great Guardian Formation!" Xian Lan suddenly shouted in alarm. "Retreat quickly." He then hurriedly fled, leaving others confused.
Although his warning came in time, some people still couldn't react fast enough and were killed by the reflected attacks.
"Great Dream Awakens. I didn't expect that as soon as I woke up, I would find you all already my enemies," a voice carried a hint of defiance and warmth.
"Daozi, you've finally awakened," Zhao Yanwu exclaimed with tears of joy.
