Zuo Dao appeared at the Defense Headquarters under the guise of a representative from the Dark Realm, nearly scaring Iron Yue half to death. He abandoned his guests and rushed out.
Although Zuo Dao's age and cultivation level did not match his identity, Qian Yue immediately recognized the Dark Token in his hand, which was undoubtedly genuine.
On the way there, he had been muttering to himself that he hadn't done anything out of line, so why would someone from the Dark Realm come looking for him so ostentatiously? If it weren't for that, could it be that he had encountered an imposter? After all, the Dark Realm had quite a reputation in the Celestial Realm. Such impersonations had occurred before, but those who dared to do so were ultimately suppressed beneath Zhonghua Peak, suffering for ten thousand years.
"May I ask which city’s Dark Realm envoy has graced us with their presence? I apologize for not welcoming you properly," Iron Yue said, his face blooming with a smile as he addressed Zuo Dao.
"Which city?" Zuo Dao was taken aback, then quickly regained his composure and was about to respond when Zhao Yanwu appeared beside him and shot him a fierce glare before taking over the conversation.
"You don’t need to worry about which city. For now, we are temporarily taking over the Teleportation. After we leave, shut down the Teleportation Array for half a day."
"What? Shut down the Teleportation Array for half a day?" Iron Yue questioned, unsure if he had misheard.
"This is an order; whether you execute it or not is your business. We are just here to inform you," Zhao Yanwu said, giving Zuo Dao and Chen Yang a knowing glance. The three then turned and flew straight toward the Teleportation Array.
Watching their retreating figures, Iron Yue was still trying to process what had just happened. What was going on? What did it mean that whether he executed it or not was his business? Given the situation, how could he not comply? The entire town was already aware that people from the Dark Realm had arrived; how could he possibly ignore it?
Iron Yue felt speechless; if it weren't for the overwhelming reputation of the Dark Realm, he would have considered stopping those three.
Zuo Dao realized he might have made some mistake and silently followed behind Zhao Yanwu.
"Weren't you just so confident? Why are you quiet now?" Zhao Yanwu teased. "The Dark Realm is doing business. Do you know anyone from the Dark Realm who has been this arrogant?"
Beside them, Chen Yang kept his head down, afraid to look up; he feared that if he did, his amused expression would be discovered.
Zuo Dao hung his head low, trudging forward in silence. It seemed he had embarrassed himself thoroughly this time; if it weren't for the formidable reputation of the Dark Realm, he would likely have been laughed at already.
Upon arriving at the Teleportation Array, Zhao Yanwu revealed his identity and instructed the guards to activate the Teleportation Array. He casually mentioned that Garrison would explain, then vanished without a trace.
The guards exchanged puzzled glances, completely unaware of what had just transpired.
"What about the three lords?" Iron Yue arrived too late; the Teleportation Array was already devoid of their presence.
"Reporting to Garrison, the three have already used the Teleportation Array to leave," one guard said, relieved that he hadn’t pressed for details when Garrison arrived.
"Check where they went," Iron Yue began, but then reconsidered. "Never mind, there's no need to investigate. Shut down the Teleportation Array and reopen it in half a day."
With that, he turned and returned to the Defense Headquarters.
"Daozi, I didn't expect you had this skill," Zhao Yanwu remarked as he gazed at the distant Firewind Town. "How did you manage it?"
The three had not teleported very far; they had merely arrived outside the town. This was all part of Zuo Dao's earlier plan.
After causing a major commotion at the Defense Headquarters, Zuo Dao decided to play along. The moment they stepped into the Teleportation Array, he made some adjustments for a short-distance teleportation. However, if anyone checked the teleportation records, they would discover that the three had actually arrived in a city called Blackwater.
At that same moment, far away in a place known as Ice Mystic Town, five cultivators clad in black robes were fuming with rage.
"Third Elder, what on earth is going on? Why are we here instead of Firewind Town?" Green Mantis, acting as their leader, was furious.
As soon as he stepped out of the Teleportation Array, he sensed something was amiss. Although he had never been to Firewind Town, he knew that this snow-covered town radiating cold could not possibly be Firewind Town.
"I don't know either," Third Elder replied helplessly. "I checked; they did indeed go to Firewind Town. I just didn’t expect them to tamper with the Teleportation Array."
Having been inexplicably transported to an unfamiliar place right after stepping onto the Teleportation Array would panic anyone. Green Tread felt fortunate that they hadn’t been thrown into a time-space turbulence; that would have been quite a disaster.
"Big Brother, I've already shown mercy," he said with a bitter smile. "We underestimated the enemy's strength. If they wanted us dead, we would have been long gone by now."
"You mean that mysterious Array Master?" Green Mantis suddenly realized.
"Yes, that Array Master's realm is beyond our imagination. I think it's necessary to inform the higher-ups and reconsider this mission," Green Tread insisted, trying to finish his statement. He didn't want his brothers to die for no reason.
"Is the enemy really as terrifying as you say?" Green Mantis found it hard to believe.
"Perhaps I underestimated them," Green Tread admitted, feeling uncertain about Zuo Dao's true capabilities. "Before accepting this mission, I sensed something was off; the bounty was just too high."
"I know that too, but the higher-ups insisted. I have no choice. The target's identity remains unclear; all we know is that they are a significant figure from Eastern Immortal City." Green Mantis still had faith in Third Elder.
"Forget it. This is a good opportunity to slowly back out of this mission; after all, we can't catch up now," Green Tread chuckled, suddenly feeling much lighter in heart.
It would take an unknown amount of time to travel from Ice Mystic Town to Firewind Town. He wouldn't dare take the Teleportation Array back to Border Town; who knew what tricks the enemy had up their sleeve? His instincts proved correct when one of their team members tried to return to Border Town only to find that the Teleportation Array had no spatial connection to the border.
While this team was stranded in Ice Mystic Town, Zuo Dao and his companions were already aboard an Airship, making their way forward.
"Unchanging Amidst Change, the Teleportation Array is also a type of formation. It just involves space, so there are slight modifications in the array patterns. However, these changes are minor and merely allow the formation to better withstand spatial forces. You can think of those spatial nodes as individual focal points within the formation. Once you understand the principles behind it, you can modify it at will," Zuo Dao explained word by word.
After boarding the ship, Zhao Yanwu kept pestering him. Eventually, Zuo Dao had no choice but to reveal the truth to her. Unfortunately, this only made her more persistent, so Zuo Dao decided to teach Zhao Yanwu some entirely new knowledge about formations.
To avoid neglecting the third party, Chen Yang, Zuo Dao tossed him a jade slip for him to practice on his own. When Chen Yang received Zuo Dao's jade slip and took a look at it, he felt like he had struck gold and retreated to a corner of the ship to enjoy himself.
"What did you give him?" Zhao Yanwu asked curiously.
"It’s just a Cultivation Method," Zuo Dao replied casually.
"A Cultivation Method?" Zhao Yanwu looked at Zuo Dao with a skeptical gaze.
"It's really just a Cultivation Method," Zuo Dao couldn't stand the intense scrutiny any longer and finally spoke up. "It's merely an ancient Cultivation Method related to Assassination Techniques."
"What? 'Assassination Technique'? Are you sure it's related to the Dao?" Zhao Yanwu couldn't believe it. If it truly was connected to the Dao, then that jade slip would be worth a fortune.
"What's the big deal about the Dao?" Zuo Dao's words left Zhao Yanwu speechless. Fine, it's your thing; you can give it to whoever you want, and I can't interfere. But I will definitely make you share some of it with me.
Zuo Dao was a very easygoing person. When Chen Yang was with him, he treated him like family, and he was exceptionally generous to those he considered close. As a result, Zhao Yanwu also managed to acquire quite a few valuable items from Zuo Dao.
These items could be considered top-tier treasures even within the Celestial Realm. Each one was labeled as "ancient" and held significant value. This delighted Zhao Yanwu immensely, and she began thinking of ways to obtain even more from Zuo Dao. Of course, this was merely a woman's mindset and had nothing to do with greed.
Now that they knew their itinerary, Zuo Dao took charge of the planning. This time's arrangement could save them a lot of time; as long as no major issues arose, they would surely reach Liu Yue City on schedule.
Zhao Yanwu found herself increasingly convinced by Zuo Dao—not only was he intelligent and wise, but he was also a wealthy individual. For the first time, she felt a sense of agreement with her grandfather's suggestion. Having such a husband didn't seem so bad after all!
Zuo Dao, however, was oblivious to the thoughts running through the young woman's mind. He noticed her alternating between smiles and frowns, which made him feel somewhat uneasy.
But more importantly, he focused on the upcoming arrangements. The tactics employed by Firewind Town wouldn't remain hidden for long; the Dark Realm would soon have corresponding countermeasures in place.
Zuo Dao had begun to form some suspicions about Zhao Yanwu's identity, though he wasn't entirely clear on the specifics. However, she hadn't sent out any distress signals under these circumstances, or if she had, they were delayed for some reason—these possibilities were all within his considerations.
Whether for himself or for Zhao Yanwu or Elder Zhao, he knew he had to proceed with caution.
While Zuo Dao was making arrangements here, the Dark Realm was also gearing up for action.
After losing a team of Yellow Rank assassins and facing obstacles with two teams of Green Level assassins, the Azure Rank assassin responsible for this mission finally made an appearance.
At that moment, he was standing in front of Firewind Town's Garrison, staring blankly at the other party.
Iron Yue felt his heart sink to the bottom. Although the other person did not reveal their identity, it was clear they were here for the three Dark Lords from earlier.
Neither side was someone he could afford to offend as a Garrison member. However, he still had to fulfill his duties.
"I'm sorry, senior, but the Teleportation Array cannot be opened at this time. Please wait a moment; once the time comes, you will be able to use it immediately."
"Do you mean to say that even an Immortal King like me cannot receive an exception?" Qingyuan's expression grew increasingly grim. "Aren't you afraid I might kill you?"
"Please forgive me; it's my duty," Iron Yue steeled himself. "If you have any complaints, you can report them to the Dark Realm."
"The Dark Realm?" Qingyuan's face changed. "Are you saying this order came from the Dark Realm?"
"Yes, after the three Dark Lords issued their orders, they used the Teleportation Array to leave," Iron Yue said, sensing an opportunity. He recounted what had happened at that time; many people present had witnessed it, so it wasn't a secret.
Upon hearing this, Qingyuan couldn't help but curse inwardly. Were those people from the Dark Realm raised on shit? They accepted a mission without even clarifying the other party's identity—this was going to get people killed.
The Dark Realm killing someone from the Dark Realm? This was absolutely ridiculous. Were those folks preparing for war?
