The starry sky stretched endlessly above, revealing the vastness of the battlefield. However, the focal point remained the connection point between the two domains. Although no figures were visible, Zuo Dao could sense an overwhelming killing intent emanating from that area. It seemed both sides placed great importance on this location, and the fluctuations in space suggested that heavy troops were stationed on both sides.
That area was certainly off-limits; the main battlefield was not a place where these Heterodox beings could participate.
Choosing the opponent for the first battle was crucial. A weaker foe would fail to showcase their overall combat strength, while a stronger one could lead to unnecessary casualties. However, as long as no one died, Zuo Dao was confident he could heal them. Yet, no War Soul Master could guarantee the safety of every team member under his command. The ever-changing nature of the battlefield was unpredictable.
Suddenly, a warning signal rang in Zuo Dao's mind.
"Prepare for battle." As his voice echoed, the entire team entered a state of readiness. Zuo Dao leaped into the air above the team, scanning the surroundings for any signs of movement.
Silence reigned—so quiet that even Jiang Yuqi felt something was amiss.
Zuo Dao closed his eyes, allowing his Celestial Soul to spread out limitlessly. One mile, two miles, ten miles, a hundred miles, a thousand miles. Finally, at nearly a thousand miles away, he detected something unusual.
Though it remained eerily silent, a faint ripple in the void caught his attention. Each fluctuation in space signified a trap; ahead, less than a thousand miles away, there were at least a hundred such disturbances forming a semicircle. What an impressive display!
Now Zuo Dao wanted to ascertain whether this was a large-scale operation directed at him or at Supreme Academy. If it was aimed at him, he would have to show those who plotted against him just how formidable he truly was.
A fierce expression flashed across his face.
"Tang Fengyue, you will command the remaining actions. The Twelve Disciples will protect the students of the Machine Institute. Maintain a distance of one hundred miles and advance rapidly."
After issuing his orders, Zuo Dao did not bother to exchange pleasantries with anyone and flew ahead alone.
As he moved forward, he communicated with Tang Fengyue. Some matters needed to be addressed in advance. Unexpected events on the battlefield were inevitable; it was impossible to cover every angle, but precautions should still be taken where necessary.
Tang Fengyue continuously adjusted tactics on her end. This was Heterodox's first battle; it absolutely could not end in failure. Even if they lost, they had to inflict pain on the enemy. Especially after learning about the enemy's arrangements and numbers, Tang Fengyue's demeanor grew even more serious.
Zuo Dao defined all potential dangers as enemies. If someone truly plotted against him from behind, it would be quite amusing; only a few high-ranking officials from Supreme Academy knew about his emergence, and even he did not know where he would engage in battle after coming out. He only hoped that the massive trap ahead was not intended for him.
After traveling over three hundred miles, Zuo Dao suddenly received a message from Jiang Yuqi from behind. A Human Cultivator War Department was advancing toward them; they had already discovered their team and were sending out signals.
Zuo Dao felt relieved; indeed, it was not directed at him. But what kind of War Department could set up such an elaborate arrangement?
He signaled Tang Fengyue to hold position and turned to meet Jiang Yuqi as they approached the War Department from behind.
In the distance, a large group of figures came into view. Zuo Dao quickly assessed the scale of this War Department and understood why such a massive ambush was set up; it indeed required a significant number of people to take down this War Department.
Tiger Soul did not expect to encounter the team from the Sitting Forgetting Academy here. During the Academy Competition, he had missed witnessing that legendary moment due to being on a mission, and now they met again on the battlefield.
However, this incident was too significant to act recklessly. Despite the Three Thousand War Department's attempts to conceal their presence, traces would inevitably remain. Thus, he chose to march boldly forward. When scouts reported the sighting of an unfamiliar Human Race War Division, they cautiously sent out a signal.
Looking at the young White-Robed Monk before him, he could hardly believe that this was none other than Zuo Dao, the current head of the Sitting Forgetting Academy, who was making waves everywhere.
Tiger Soul lived up to his name; he resembled a humanoid giant tiger, with a faint royal character visible on his forehead. His muscular body radiated an aura of terrifying strength.
"Are you practicing the Great King Tiger Technique?" Zuo Dao was the first to speak. Tiger Soul was not surprised; he practiced an ancient body cultivation method well-known within the Supreme Academy.
"Yes," Tiger Soul replied nonetheless.
"You've made mistakes in the third and sixth levels. The Great Wang Hu is not necessarily the Great King Tiger; there is also an ancient ferocious beast known as the Great King Tiger. It is the king among tigers. If you are cultivating according to the Great King Tiger method, you should abandon it as soon as possible. Otherwise, you will eventually meet a violent end—no, it should be within a year that you face such danger," Zuo Dao observed Tiger Soul while speaking.
Upon hearing Zuo Dao's words, Tiger Soul felt as if his mind had exploded. A deep sense of dread appeared in his eyes. He knew nothing about Zuo Dao's Great King Tiger, but the mention of a violent death struck at his innermost fears.
Recently, he had often felt his internal power spiraling out of control. If it weren't for his robust physique and profound strength keeping it in check, he would have been severely injured long ago.
"Thank you!" Tiger Soul simply responded with a calm tone. Zuo Dao shrugged and continued.
"There’s an ambush ahead; I believe it's targeting you. If you don’t want to die—uh, I mean, if you don’t want your entire team to perish here, it’s best to retreat."
From start to finish, even hearing that his life was in danger did not faze Tiger Soul; however, his expression changed drastically at that moment.
"Is this true?"
"I don't know if it's true or not, but if you proceed another thousand miles, there will definitely be no place for burial," Zuo Dao said with curiosity, wondering why someone who feared nothing about death would react so strongly upon hearing about an ambush.
"Thank you, Dean Zuo. Please wait a moment while I make some arrangements." With that, Tiger Soul hurried back into the War Department.
"What do you think of this person?" Zuo Dao asked Jiang Yuqi.
"Being upright and just, he is indeed a rare and formidable general." It seemed that Jiang Yuqi had a deep understanding of Tiger Soul, as Zuo Dao immediately responded.
"Do you know their purpose for coming this time?"
"I'm not sure. Usually, the War Department would send a notice before taking action, but this time I contacted one of their mechanics, and I still don't know what the mission is." Jiang Yuqi sensed something and asked back, "You are…"
"Is there a possibility? Are ambushes common in the Starry Battlefield?" Zuo Dao looked at Tiger Soul's figure and inquired further.
"Not really. Such incidents were frequent during the initial stages of the battlefield's opening, but they have almost ceased since then. The difficulty of ambushing in the vastness of space is too great, especially now that there are treasures capable of detecting spatial fluctuations. Generally, this kind of thing doesn't happen." Jiang Yuqi was puzzled as well; he possessed similar treasures that could sense any fluctuation within a thousand miles.
However, his own treasure had not given any warning, while it seemed Zuo Dao had discovered something.
At that moment, Tiger Soul had arranged everything and returned to Zuo Dao's side.
"Thank you. This is on behalf of my brothers from the Tiger Soul War Division." With that, Tiger Soul bowed to Zuo Dao from two meters away.
Zuo Dao sidestepped to avoid Tiger Soul's gratitude. "No need to thank me; as members of the same clan, it's only right."
"It seems you've noticed something. Indeed, Lord of the Mansion was correct; Dean Zuo is a genius. Nothing can escape your notice." Tiger Soul did not linger on the matter of gratitude.
"Which Lord of the Mansion are you referring to?" The Supreme Academy had one elusive Mysterious Academy Master and over ten others bearing the title Lord of the Mansion.
"Of course, I mean the Supreme Lord." Tiger Soul no longer concealed anything at this point. "In fact, since you entered the mansion, the Supreme Lord has been watching you. However, due to certain reasons, he cannot reveal himself. This mission was also assigned by him."
"Go on," Zuo Dao said with an unchanged expression as he awaited Tiger Soul's next words.
"Uh, alright." At this point, Tiger Soul raised his hand and cast a Restriction. "There is a traitor within the mansion; we don't yet know who it is. My mission this time is to uncover this traitor."
"Going to your death? Are you going too?"
"Why wouldn't I go? It's the only way to flush him out. The opponent is well-hidden; even the Supreme Lord can't trace a single clue about him. My mission is to escort a treasure belonging to Mo Xu to a specific location. This treasure has the potential to change the current situation in the Starry Battlefield and might even defeat the Demon Clan. Then you'll understand."
At this point, if Zuo Dao still didn't get it, he would truly be foolish.
"That is to say, only a few people know about this matter. If your mission goes awry, then those few who are aware of the truth will also be in trouble, right?"
"Yes, those few are the prime suspects. The Lord of the Mansion had no choice but to resort to this desperate measure." At this point, Tiger Soul glanced towards the War Department. "They don't know the truth; they only know this is a mission with certain death. Yet, none of them chose to back down."
"Have you considered that if the mission fails and you don't catch that traitor, wouldn't your sacrifices be in vain?"
"What does it matter? At least the Lord of the Mansion will be on guard. This situation is too significant; as soon as the enemy makes a move, the Supreme Lord will be able to identify them."
It seemed that Tiger Soul's loyalty to the Supreme Lord was extraordinarily high, bordering on blind faith.
"You don't expect your Lord of the Mansion to use the Supreme Art of Performance to find out who they are, do you?" Zuo Dao said with a somewhat strange expression.
"How do you know?" When Tiger Soul heard Zuo Dao mention the Supreme Art of Performance, he exclaimed in shock.
"Alright, alright, don't worry about how I know. I want to ask you: do you understand what consequences using the Supreme Art of Performance might bring?"
"I don't know." Tiger Soul's resilient heart began to waver. He was puzzled about how Zuo Dao knew this. If it weren't for the Supreme Lord telling him beforehand that Zuo Dao was the only person he could trust, he would have considered silencing him. Had it not been for the Lord of the Mansion insisting that he must choose to trust Zuo Dao over anyone else, he would have acted immediately.
"Trust me and follow my plan; I will help you uncover that traitor." Zuo Dao looked at Tiger Soul, subtly raising his stature as he spoke. Talking to people is exhausting!
