A voice pierced through the constraints of space, suddenly appearing above the battlefield. That sound carried with it the passage of time, echoing the regrets of lost moments.
"You finally showed up; I thought you would never come out," Zuo Dao said with a hint of sarcasm. Yet, his gaze never left the distant Huang Xishi.
A sense of reluctance, a thread of affection, a strand of concern.
Huang Xishi felt Zuo Dao's gaze upon her, and she finally understood why he had spoken those words before. Departures often come unexpectedly, and separations occur at the happiest moments. But why does understanding love bring such pain to the heart?
With an unwavering resolve, Zuo Dao shifted his gaze from Huang Xishi and turned it back toward the starry sky of Endless.
"Come forth and end this all. Although I hesitate to disrupt this moment, what must end will inevitably come to an end."
Silence enveloped the starry sky, occasionally interrupted by a few shooting stars that merely highlighted its grandeur.
"As you wish," an aged voice echoed after a long pause.
In an instant, the entire Celestial Veil underwent a dramatic transformation, as if someone were forcefully tearing it apart, shattering the fabric of reality. To everyone's astonishment, the cracks were spreading at an alarming rate. In mere moments, they covered the entire Outer Battlefield.
All Human Cultivators and Outsider Demons felt the ground beneath them begin to fracture; some who were caught by the cracks started to disintegrate as well.
Panic spread among all life on the Outer Battlefield; this was far beyond their comprehension and knowledge.
Only Zuo Dao and Huang Xishi remained seemingly unaffected by the chaos unfolding around them.
Zuo Dao understood that such a situation would arise. Meanwhile, in Huang Xishi's eyes, there was only Zuo Dao.
The two of them gazed deeply into each other's eyes from a distance, until Huang Xishi was swallowed by the cracks. Only then did Zuo Dao withdraw his gaze.
At that moment, the entire Outer Battlefield had vanished without a trace, and all the life that once existed there was gone, leaving Zuo Dao standing alone in the void.
"What is this place?"
The ancient voice did not expect Zuo Dao's first question to be this, but it still answered him.
"Great Dream Mirror."
Upon hearing this, a hint of doubt in Zuo Dao's heart was finally resolved.
"You are Great Dream Elder?"
After saying this, he was a bit surprised himself; he hadn't expected it to indeed be the Great Dream Elder. If it weren't for the sudden resonance he felt from the Great Dream Heart Sutra he practiced, he wouldn't have thought of this layer.
"I knew I couldn't hide it from you; I just didn't expect you to see through it so quickly."
"This has always been an illusion. But why did you or your people do this?"
"It seems you know much more than we imagined." The Great Dream Elder was no longer surprised by Zuo Dao's words. Although he didn't understand how Zuo Dao knew of his existence or how he saw through the Great Dream Mirror, he recognized that Zuo Dao was chosen by them. Without some significant action to draw their attention, he would have remained just another insignificant character.
"Where did you obtain your Great Dream Heart Sutra?"
"You don't need to know that; just know that I can," Zuo Dao's words carried a hint of disdain.
The Great Dream Elder seemed unfazed by Zuo Dao's attitude, even appearing somewhat pleased. Having one's own secrets was a good thing, although it could be a bit challenging to control; at the same time, others remained unaware.
"Although I don't know what kind of trap you are setting, I advise you not to bother me again in the future. I truly dislike this feeling."
This feeling was indeed unpleasant. Zuo Dao recalled the last moment in Huang Xishi's eyes, and his impression of the Great Dream Elder grew worse.
"It's not surprising that you have this thought. In fact, there were many like you before, but in the end, they all faded away," the Great Dream Elder's voice remained calm and aged.
"There are things you can do that I cannot. However, there are things I can do that they cannot, and that is the biggest difference between us."
"Yes, you are very different from them. What exactly went wrong, we do not know," the Great Dream Elder's emotions finally began to fluctuate.
Every piece on the board was carefully chosen by them; they knew each piece's background clearly. But Zuo Dao was now beyond their understanding.
"Your secret is vast and enticing, but I will not harbor any greed for it," the Great Dream Elder stated honestly.
In their Realm, what secret could be greater than Ascend to Immortality? What secret could be stronger than Ascend to Immortality?
Becoming an immortal is not merely about having opportunities; great fortune and destiny only illuminate the possibility of becoming one.
Ultimately, immortality is about the person themselves.
Regarding the Great Dream Elder, Zuo Dao chose not to comment. Secrets? What are secrets? What hidden truths could one possess that even they themselves are unaware of? Even if you come to seize it, there should be a goal.
“Pawns! They can only be called pawns in your hands. Once this pawn leaps off the board, it is no longer a pawn.”
“You're not wrong, but this also requires the pawn to have the ability to leap off the board.”
Upon hearing the Great Dream Elder's words, Zuo Dao fell into deep thought.
Indeed, action requires ability; without the capacity to act, all efforts are in vain. This is the rule of the Red Fruit in the cultivation world.
At this moment, the Great Dream Elder had already manifested within the Great Dream Mirror. It appeared that he was not truly present; although his form was solid, Zuo Dao could see through it at a glance.
“So you share this sentiment as well.”
“To be honest, friend, it's not that we cannot come in person, but that we must not.”
“I understand. You are merely a group of pitiful creatures who have been suppressed.”
As soon as Zuo Dao finished speaking, a tremendous wave of energy surged from the Great Dream Elder's avatar.
He was startled by Zuo Dao.
“Who exactly are you? You cannot possibly be Zuo Dao, for he would never know these things.”
It wasn't that Great Dream Elder wanted to deny it, but since Zuo Dao had come out, it meant he must have known something. So he simply chose to admit it openly.
"Is there really a need for me to explain what you can and cannot do?" Zuo Dao couldn't help but smile lightly. From that moment on, he had completely taken control of the situation.
This world was vast, and there were many things he still couldn't comprehend or understand. But what did it matter? As long as he knew what he was doing, that was enough.
Great Dream Mirror.
Although it had cost him something, it had also granted him much more in return.
Looking at the pensive Great Dream Elder, Zuo Dao felt a wave of sympathy rise within him.
"There are some things I won't say; coming out like this isn't good for anyone. What you want to achieve, I will pursue, but not for you—it's for myself."
Zuo Dao's tone shifted, becoming resolute.
"From now on, I don't want your shadows appearing around me anymore, because I—do—not—like—it."
Great Dream Elder looked at Zuo Dao with a complex expression. After a long pause, he finally spoke.
"I can promise you that, but there are things we cannot fully control. So sometimes, certain events may occur that do not align with our wishes."
"I understand," Zuo Dao nodded in acknowledgment.
Before he had fully grown, he did not want to attract the attention of certain individuals. As long as he had enough time, he was confident that he could make this universe tremble beneath his feet.
The Great Dream Elder left, carrying a hint of melancholy, a touch of reluctance, and a bit of solace.
The Great Dream Mirror shattered.
Zuo Dao returned to reality.
It was still the same Teleportation Array, still above Moling Star, but all those who had accompanied him were nowhere to be seen.
"Friends, wait for me!"
Looking at the Teleportation Array before him, Zuo Dao resolutely stepped onto it.
Would the path ahead truly be as he envisioned?
Zuo Dao couldn't help but think of Huang Xishi.
In a moment of temporal disarray, he stepped onto a brand new journey with a smile.
