Bai Wuliu's death came as a shock; no one expected him to take his own life under such circumstances. Those who had entertained such thoughts were met with scorn.
A strange atmosphere enveloped Spirit Sword Mountain.
Everyone turned their gaze toward Zuo Dao, except for one person. Tai Shu Yun looked at the sword in her hand, her joy evident. It was a beautiful sword, only about a third the length of her finger, yet it was exquisitely crafted.
Though she did not enjoy practicing swordsmanship, her love for swords was no less than that of any Sword Cultivator.
The benefits of the sword were apparent to her as soon as she touched it. A surging Sword Intent lay within, like a powerful beast lying in wait. Most importantly, the purity of the Sword Intent was something even her uncle, Tai Shu Yi, could not possess. It truly was a precious treasure.
Zuo Dao also felt a sense of surprise at Bai Wuliu's death. He had not anticipated that the combination of the Supreme Ascension Spell and the Great Dream Hammer Sound would wield such tremendous power. He vaguely sensed fluctuations in time and space, but by the time he tried to grasp it, it had already vanished without a trace.
He sighed deeply; it seemed that everything relied on chance, and good character alone was not enough.
The way the Cultivators present looked at Zuo Dao had changed dramatically. The mockery and disdain had disappeared from their faces, replaced by gravity and fear. The unknown was the most terrifying; no one wanted to die inexplicably in battle.
Someone from the Sword Hidden Pavilion stepped forward, glancing at Bai Wuliu's corpse with a hint of reluctance and sorrow in their eyes. When they turned to Zuo Dao again, their expression returned to cold indifference.
Qi did not wish to appear, but he knew that if he did not show up, his master's body would likely fall into the hands of those elders within the pavilion. Zuo Dao had not crossed his mind; after all, such a powerful figure would not care about his master's remains.
"I want to retrieve my master's body!" The voice was cold, as if discussing an unrelated matter.
Zuo Dao regarded the Cultivator before him with curiosity. He could sense conflicting emotions within this Cultivator—reluctance, relief, disgust, and above all, unease.
"What are you really worried about?" Zuo Dao asked, intrigued. Those with stories were always his target; life felt somewhat dull in this world, igniting his Gossiping Flame with fervor.
The question caught Qi off guard.
"Don't worry; if you don't want to share, that's fine. I'm just curious," Zuo Dao realized his inquiry might have been abrupt and quickly added an explanation.
"Nothing," Qi replied, a flicker of struggle crossing his eyes before he ultimately remained silent.
Zuo Dao merely gazed at him calmly.
"You want to reclaim your master's body? But his corpse is of great use to me."
Qi revealed a faint smile of bitterness.
"True, I almost forgot that you are from Spirit Sword Mountain. A corpse of a Sword Cultivator would certainly be useful to you."
Since Zuo Dao's appearance, people only knew he had descended from the peak of Spirit Sword Mountain. Although he had not formally made a move or demonstrated his swordsmanship, everyone subconsciously overlooked his identity.
Hearing Qi's words now, they couldn't help but reassess the strength of Spirit Sword Mountain.
Only Gai Jiuyou thought that Zuo Dao's emergence was undoubtedly an accident.
"Are you thinking of a Sword Puppet?" Upon hearing this, Zuo Dao reacted. A powerful Sword Cultivator's physical body would definitely make for excellent material; the resulting puppet would be immensely powerful. However, such a Sword Puppet could only be crafted by someone who was a Sword Cultivator. He hadn't expected that there were Sword Puppets in this Star Domain as well.
"Yes," Qi did not hide it any longer. "I want to reclaim my master's body simply because I don't want it to fall into the hands of the elders in the sect. Despite how he treated me, he is still my master."
"Qi, you are slandering us." At this moment, an elder from the Sword Hidden Pavilion stepped forward. "You clearly wanted to turn Lord into a puppet and are trying to pin the blame on us."
"Peng Wuyi, do you dare say you haven't thought about it?" Qi's brows furrowed as he glared fiercely at the speaker. In front of Zuo Dao, he could maintain a low profile, but he wouldn't allow just anyone to push him around.
"You..." Peng Wuyi felt a bit choked up, but the palpable killing intent locked onto him was undeniable. Qi's current aura was overwhelming.
"This is your internal matter; when you have time, resolve it slowly. Young Master Zuo, since you do not wish to return Friend Bai's body, I believe there is nothing more for you to argue about," Gai Jiuyou spoke up.
After Zuo Dao's appearance, Gai's Tai Fortress had ceased all movement. Urban Journey urged several times, but Gai Jiuyou remained indifferent, which greatly displeased Urban Journey, yet there was nothing he could do.
Zuo Dao looked at Gai Jiuyou.
"You are the initiator of this operation?"
"Indeed." Gai Jiuyou's attitude left everyone astonished. When had they ever seen him speak so kindly?
"Then let's discuss the issue of compensation. Can you make a decision?" Zuo Dao had intended to talk to Gai Jiuyou. He felt somewhat averse to the wars among Cultivators. Although he had tricked many Cultivators himself, he always felt it was somewhat inappropriate.
"Well..." Gai Jiuyou hesitated. "If it were just my side, I could say that, but given the current situation, the most I can do is have Gai Fortress withdraw and offer some compensation."
At this statement, the room fell silent in shock. What was happening?
Leaders from other factions stepped forward, some accusing, some cursing, some confused, and others deep in thought.
If Gai's Tai Fortress withdrew, it would mean that their side would have to bear greater pressure. If they withdrew entirely, it would mean that even Gai's Tai Fortress, a colossal entity, was willing to offer compensation. Their side would certainly not escape unscathed either; this time they would end up with nothing while suffering significant losses.
"Your words are enough. If anyone disagrees, then I can only force them to agree," Zuo Dao declared lightly, silencing the crowd.
Tai Shu Yi and his group had already descended the mountain and stood behind Zuo Dao, listening to his words with a sense of admiration.
"If Young Master Zuo doesn't mind, you can come to our Gai's Tai Fortress. Even if you want to become the fortress master, it's just a matter of your word," Gai Jiuyou added, seemingly eager to shock everyone further.
"What? You want me to be the fortress master?" Urban Journey questioned in disbelief.
"Father!?" Garen also looked puzzled.
Tai Shu Yi and the others were completely taken aback by Gai Jiuyou's words.
You can recruit people; that's fine. Who you want to recruit is your freedom. But they had never seen someone recruit like this—inviting someone back to take over their own position? Or casually coaxing someone into becoming a powerless puppet?
"Oh, that's quite an offer!" Zuo Dao thought Gai Jiuyou might be losing his mind.
"As long as you come, Gai's Tai Fortress can be renamed Left Fortress immediately, and I, Gai Jiuyou, can announce that you will be my fortress master from now on." Gai Jiuyou's tone finally made Tai Shu Yi and the others take notice. Tai Shu Reincarnation frequently glanced at Tai Shu Yun, but Tai Shu Yun completely ignored her grandfather and merely played with the sword Zuo Dao had given her.
"No need for that; I prefer to do things myself. Besides, it's still too early for me to establish a faction," Zuo Dao honestly declined Gai Jiuyou's offer.
"Just saying that is enough. If you ever feel like building your own power, just let me know. I, Gai Jiuyou, will immediately rally Gai's Tai Fortress to serve under you." The words were shocking.
The cultivators were all left in stunned silence.
"Wash up and go home to sleep. I must be dreaming."
"Yeah, let's do it together."
"Has Gai Fortress Master gone mad from training and hurt his mind?"
The most anxious one was Urban Journey. If Gai Jiuyou really did that, he would have no chance at all. Just as he was about to make a move, he realized that all the trusted subordinates he had cultivated within the fortress had vanished without a trace.
Zuo Dao paid no attention to the reactions of the other cultivators. He simply asked out of curiosity, "Why would you do this?"
"Because someone once told me," Gai Jiuyou said, looking deeply at Zuo Dao.
"He once predicted: Those who attain the Dao gain much assistance."
