Su Xiawei opened her eyes and looked around, finding the ground littered with chicken, duck, and pig droppings, a foul sight. Fortunately, this body was not buried under the filth.
She lifted her skirt and stood up, searching for a clean spot in the yard to sit down. Just as her bottom was about to touch the ground, she heard Mu Xiaotuan's voice beside her.
"Sister Weiwei, why aren't you sitting in the tree?"
"In the tree?" Su Xiawei was puzzled.
"Yes, Sister Weiwei! It's much cooler up there!" Mu Xiaotuan exclaimed excitedly.
Su Xiawei glanced at the tree but saw nothing particularly special about it. She thought Mu Xiaotuan meant sitting on a branch. Considering how hot it was, sitting on a branch did sound refreshing. So, she leaped up and settled herself on a sturdy branch.
From this vantage point, she could see the entire village. It wasn't small; there were about a hundred households. Although each home was a thatched cottage, nearly every doorstep had grains drying in the sun, along with various livestock. Only a few houses had overgrown weeds in front of them.
"Sister Weiwei, this is the original owner's memory," Mu Xiaotuan's voice echoed in her mind. In the next moment, fragments of memories flooded Su Xiawei's consciousness.
This was a world set against an ancient backdrop. It told the story of a Transmigrated Girl who traveled back to an ancient rural setting with a space ability. The Transmigrated Girl, Zhou Cuiping, was originally born into a noble family but was kidnapped by human traffickers when she was five years old.
Coincidentally, she was taken alongside the young lady of the noble family, Su Xiaoxiao. Su Xiaoxiao was two years younger than Zhou Cuiping, charmingly beautiful and quite clever. However, after Zhou Cuiping rescued her, Su Xiaoxiao became dull-witted.
Using her spatial abilities, Zhou Cuiping transformed her family's fortunes within just over a decade, making them the wealthiest household in the village. Not only that, but she also saved a severely injured war god general in the mountains. The two grew to know and love each other.
Zhou Cuiping had seven brothers, including the current Prime Minister and wealthy merchants—each one powerful and influential. They all doted on Zhou Cuiping and considered her their treasure.
As for Su Xiaoxiao, she was bought by Su Xiawei's brother, Su Da Bao, to serve as a maid for Su Xiawei. Although Su Xiaowei often looked down on her, Su Xiaoxiao frequently thought of her former companion Zhou Cuiping. She often secretly saved some grain with plans to bring it to Zhou Cuiping. Little did she know that those offerings would be of no interest to Zhou Cuiping at all.
Su Xiaoxiao was misunderstood by Su Xiawei and scolded by Zhou Cuiping's brothers, ultimately leading her to drown herself in the river. Zhou Cuiping and her seven brothers felt that Su Xiaoxiao had brought this upon herself.
After receiving the memories, Su Xiawei was furious, nearly spitting blood. "Do they really think I don't exist? One after another, they come to my territory to cause trouble!"
"I, Su Xiawei, declare today that I am the master of my domain!"
"From now on, Transmigrated Girl, don’t even think about being arrogant in front of me!"
Not long after standing outside the courtyard, Su Xiawei saw her brother returning with a thin girl named Xiaoxiao.
"Sis, why are you standing out here? Come inside."
Seeing Su Xiawei outside, Su Da Bao hurriedly helped her in with concern.
Su Xiawei didn’t move but looked at the girl behind him. "Did you buy her?"
"Yeah."
Su Da Bao nodded, scratching his head awkwardly. "The Zhou family bought someone too."
"This girl looks younger than you; why did you buy her? To serve me?" Su Xiawei's tone was somewhat disdainful. The girl was dirty and her hair was a mess.
Su Xiawei couldn’t imagine what she could possibly do.
"Sis, I've seen her; she can work."
Fearing that Su Xiawei would send the girl away, Su Da Bao quickly explained, "Besides, she's only four years old; she'll grow up with some care."
"Fine."
Su Xiawei nodded. "You brought her back, so you take care of her."
"Thanks, Sis."
Seeing Su Xiawei relent, Su Da Bao finally breathed a sigh of relief. He took the girl and said to Su Xiawei, "Sis, I’ll go make dinner now."
"Okay, go ahead."
Su Xiawei waved him off and took Su Xiaoxiao for a quick tour around the house.
"This room is mine; that one is my brother's; you can stay over there."
"Alright, don’t just stand here; go play outside."
Su Xiawei sent Su Xiaoxiao away and went into her room. When Su Da Bao finished cooking, Su Xiawei helped wash their hands before sitting at the dining table with Su Xiaoxiao.
"Eat up."
Su Da Bao didn’t treat Su Xiaoxiao differently just because she was bought; he sat down to eat with both Su Xiawei and Su Xiaoxiao. After finishing their meal, Su Xiawei asked Su Da Bao to boil some water for Su Xiaoxiao to wash up.
Of course, she hadn't forgotten about herself.
Su Da Bao boiled several pots of water, first for Su Xiaoxiao to wash, then for Su Xiawei, and finally for himself.
After a good night's sleep, the next morning, when Su Xiaoxiao woke up, the sky was already bright.
She hurriedly got up, "Oh no, I'm late!"
"Late? Come over and have some porridge," Su Xiawei called from the table, waving her hand.
Su Xiaoxiao obediently sat down and picked up the bowl to drink the porridge.
"Finish eating and wash the bowl," Su Xiawei said as she finished her porridge, set down her bowl, and turned to leave.
"Okay," Su Xiaoxiao replied softly, burying her head in the bowl.
By the time Su Da Bao returned from the mountain, Su Xiaoxiao had already cleaned the kitchen. Although her movements were a bit clumsy, thankfully she hadn't broken any bowls.
Su Xiawei looked at her with disdain, "Get out of the way, don't break the bowls."
After saying that, she started cleaning up herself.
Su Xiaoxiao was too scared to speak and stood quietly by the side.
Once Su Xiawei finished tidying up, Su Xiaoxiao took out the dirty clothes of both Su Xiawei and Su Da Bao to wash.
Seeing how hard Su Xiaoxiao was struggling, Su Xiawei pulled the clothes over to her, "Get out of the way; I'll do it myself."
Su Xiaoxiao didn't dare to move and squatted beside Su Xiawei, helping her pass the clothes.
The entire yard was cleaned spotless by Su Xiaoxiao.
Su Xiawei nodded in satisfaction and placed a few wildflowers she had picked in the yard. Instantly, the air was filled with fragrance.
Lunch was prepared in advance by Su Da Bao and left for them.
