He turned his eyes and said, "I was just about to report to you, Senior Brother. The method of using qi to control the sword is indeed quite difficult. However, I have glimpsed the way; it's just that the sword in my hand is not suitable, and I often cannot wield it freely, resulting in more misses than hits. I heard that you possess a famous sword that can cut through hair and sever strands, a renowned weapon from the Great Liang Kingdom. I would like to borrow it for a while; I trust you won't be stingy."
An Mo Sheng laughed heartily and said, "You came too late; my sword has already been given to Master. If you are interested, I can report to him and have him send it to you personally."
Xunuo thought for a moment and secretly stomped his foot. He realized that Chang Zai Shui must have spoken to An Mo Sheng first, and that sword was likely taken back by Chang Zai Shui.
He could only force a smile and say, "Senior Brother, you're joking. How could I dare covet your belongings? I was merely curious and bored, wanting to borrow it for some fun. Please don’t misunderstand."
The two chatted for a while longer before Xunuo took his leave.
After Xunuo left, An Mo Sheng broke into a cold sweat. He thought to himself: Thankfully, this disciple is clever enough to anticipate that Lu Zaisheng would come asking for the sword, prompting me to have it taken away in advance.
If the sword had been with him, who knows how he would have resisted Lu Zaisheng's relentless pleas? Recently, Lu Zaisheng had lost over ten swords in succession; fortunately, this cliff was in a remote area with no one around. Otherwise, how many lives would have been harmed? If he lost his own sword, his fate would be worse than that of the eldest senior brother.
Thinking of this made him wipe away another bead of sweat.
Xunuo returned to Broken Heart Cliff feeling somewhat dejected and cursed Chang Zai Shui in his heart.
He pondered that if he wanted to practice more advanced sword techniques from One Flower, he must find a breakthrough with Iron Sword. He would have to muster the courage to go out and borrow a sword.
Then he recalled the two Robe Men he had killed in Water Cave. The long swords they wielded were certainly not ordinary items; unfortunately, they had fallen into Water Cave.
At that time, he hadn't recognized their value and had wasted two fine swords. Now it was too late for regrets, and the Clam Spirit in Water Cave still sent shivers down his spine. Not to mention those two Iron Swords were long gone; even if he knew where they ended up, he wouldn't risk his life for them.
Resolving to check again tomorrow to see who was on guard outside, he decided he must find a way to borrow an Iron Sword for a trial.
The next morning, Liu Changqing arrived early at Broken Heart Cliff to replace An Mo Sheng. After exchanging pleasantries, Liu Changqing suddenly asked, "Why isn't Second Senior Brother bringing a sword for guard duty?"
An Mo Sheng let out a bitter smile and recounted the events of the previous day.
Xunuo had recently gained quite a reputation for throwing his sword at the Seven Star Sword Hall. He was almost as infamous as the Bronze Man at Broken Heart Cliff.
Liu Changqing's expression changed slightly. "This junior brother really is a handful," he remarked. Then he added, "Brother, why don't you keep watch for a while longer? I feel uneasy even holding the sword. It's better to return it and have peace of mind."
Finished speaking, he turned and left.
By noon, when Xunuo came out and chatted with Liu Changqing, he noticed that Liu Changqing had also stopped wearing his sword. Realizing that his hopes of borrowing a sword were dashed, Xunuo feared that in the future, his senior brothers would come without their swords. After exchanging pleasantries with Liu Changqing, Xunuo took his leave.
Naturally, Xunuo abandoned the idea of borrowing a sword and focused solely on cultivating the Huayang Classic at Broken Heart Cliff.
One day, when Chang Zai Shui came to deliver food, he reported that there was an Outer Sect Disciple seeking an audience.
Upon inquiring about the person's appearance, Xunuo recognized it was Guo Shujiang and hurried out to meet him. Guo Shujiang was sharp-witted and greeted him with great courtesy. Xunuo quickly led him to Broken Heart Cliff.
Having not seen each other for several months, they were both eager to catch up and had endless topics to discuss. Eventually, their conversation turned to the Outer Sect Disciple Outer Sect Competition.
It turned out that while Xunuo had been focused on his training at Broken Heart Cliff, he was unaware that the Outer Sect Disciple Outer Sect Competition was just around the corner, only half a month away. Participation in this competition was mandatory for Xunuo. The Wuhua Sect had no precedent for skipping the Outer Sect Disciple Outer Sect Competition and directly entering the Inner Sect. Moreover, Xunuo had been personally designated by the sect leader, Ximen Tower, to participate in the competition within a year of entering the Outer Gate to determine his future.
However, this also presented an opportunity for Xunuo to leave Broken Heart Cliff. He decided to let Guo Shujiang return first and would think things over before speaking with Tian Feiyu.
Guo Shujiang hesitated before taking his leave.
After contemplating for a while, Xunuo felt it best to report to Tian Feiyu first and have him communicate with the sect leader. After all, family matters were often taken lightly and might not reach the sect leader otherwise.
Xunuo arrived outside Broken Heart Cliff and said to Bi Changjian, who was guarding the entrance, "I just heard Guo Shujiang mention that the Outer Sect Competition is approaching. Please, Senior Brother, ask Master to let me participate."
Bi Changjian chuckled and replied, "Did you think I had forgotten about this? Since you brought it up, come with me."
Xunuo's eyes lit up. "Does Master already have plans?"
Bi Changjian said, "Master mentioned over ten days ago that if you came to ask, he would take you to Seven Star Sword Hall for arrangements."
Xunuo huffed in frustration. "If only you had mentioned it sooner! You’ve made me suffer."
Bi Changjian snorted. "Do you want to go out early just to see the Eldest Senior Brother?"
At this, Xunuo felt disheartened.
With a bitter smile, he said, "I hadn’t even thought of that. Has the Eldest Senior Brother returned to Seven Star Sword Hall already?"
Bi Changjian replied, "He returns every day but spends several hours guarding the spiritual spring down the mountain during the day. He must come back before dark. He has disciples to teach and family to care for; he can't stay down there permanently."
Xunuo lowered his head and sighed. "I still need to apologize in person; I can't hide here for a lifetime. I’ll go back with you today. Some things cannot be avoided."
Bi Changjian nodded. "Since you've made up your mind, let's go. Sister Nangong has cleaned up the courtyard that Master prepared for you; go see if it suits you."
Xunuo asked, "Is it the one facing your courtyard?"
Bi Changjian smiled. "Exactly. That’s the only courtyard left in the back. You don’t have any other options."
Xunuo exclaimed happily, "This courtyard is just fine! I wouldn’t dare be picky. The key is being able to conveniently consult with my senior brothers; I’ll still need your guidance in the future."
Bi Changjian seemed to have thought of something upon hearing this, casting a strange glance at Xunuo. He said, "Discussing techniques can wait; let's head back to the Seven Star Sword Hall first."
Having finished speaking, he led Xunuo towards the Seven Star Sword Hall.
Upon arriving at the Seven Star Sword Hall, Bi Changjian directly brought Xunuo to the courtyard. The entrance had been cleaned and was wide open. Inside, several peach trees had just begun to bud, and the ground was freshly cleared of weeds, revealing patches of new green. The windows were also newly papered.
Xunuo felt a warmth in his heart and said, "Thanks to Sister Nangong for this."
Bi Changjian chuckled and replied, "As long as you know. For these few days, focus on practicing the Fist Technique and don't wander around. After the Outer Sect Competition, you'll be a rightful disciple of the Seven Star Sword Hall."
Xunuo cupped his hands in thanks and said, "Thank you, Junior Brother."
Bi Changjian waved his hand and left.
Xunuo entered the courtyard and walked along a stone path. In front of him stood a row of three brick houses. Only the middle one had a door; the others had windows but no doors.
Xunuo pushed open the door and saw a painting of a distant mountain path hanging on the wall opposite him, with a square table and two chairs beneath it. There were doors on either side leading to adjacent rooms. Xunuo raised his hand to push open the door to the eastern room, which contained a bed, a table, and two cabinets; all the bedding was new. He then checked the western room, which was set up as a study with a bookshelf under the window and a table with a chair. The beams and furniture all had an ancient look but were kept clean and tidy.
As Xunuo paced around the room, he thought it best to visit Tian Feiyu to pay his respects and report in. As for Zhang Shoufeng, he felt somewhat apprehensive. Although it was unintentional on his part, he had indeed caused trouble for his senior brother. Apologizing was necessary, but he needed to think carefully about how to approach it.
With this in mind, he stepped out and closed the door behind him before heading off to find Tian Feiyu.
