Xunuo's worries deepened as he thought about the Nanyue Sect. Two powerful experts had mysteriously fallen while following his group, and the suspicion fell heavily on him. He was the only one who hadn't ridden a horse. The two experts could have complained about not catching those on horseback, but if they couldn't even catch someone running barefoot, it would be utterly absurd.
Thus, they should have been able to catch up. This was the crux of the problem. If they had caught up and the pursued remained unharmed while the two experts vanished without a trace, Nanyue Sect would certainly not let this go easily. They would spare no effort to uncover the truth, which meant they would constantly keep an eye on him. When he descended the mountain again, he feared there would be dire consequences.
Xunuo had no intention of staying on Wuhua Mountain for life, seeking refuge with Wuhua Sect. Therefore, if he wanted to avoid leaving any traces and prevent future troubles, he needed to eliminate the two black-clad figures following him as well. This way, the blame would naturally fall on Wuhua Sect. In a conflict between two martial arts sects, someone like him—an insignificant figure—would likely go unnoticed by the other side, increasing his chances of survival.
Now that Xunuo saw these two oblivious individuals approaching, he activated his True Qi and prepared to give it his all.
Over the course of one night, Xunuo had undergone significant changes; he was now nearly as tall as the two black-clad men and exuded an air of elegance. As he turned around, the two figures hesitated for a moment before one of them spoke up, "You must be Lu Zaisheng from Wuhua Sect."
Xunuo let out a cold laugh and mocked, "You two are not ordinary fools; you've been chasing me all this way and still ask such ridiculous questions."
With a flick of his sleeve, he displayed an air of detachment. However, just then, an untimely gust of river wind blew through, causing his long robe to flutter and reveal his bare thighs beneath. The wind rushed into his robe, making him feel a chill in his groin. He realized that underneath he was empty-handed and thought to himself: this could be quite disadvantageous in a fight.
The two black-clad men hadn't seen Xunuo clearly in town. When they jumped down to pursue him, he had already fled far away. They didn't know that at that time he was still wearing clothes underneath. Now seeing Xunuo's hollow attire and recalling how he had jumped down from above, they couldn't help but feel a sense of regret. They thought: it wouldn't be surprising if blood splattered on him during a fight; what worried them more was if this guy played dirty and ended up splattering something worse.
At that moment, another black-clad man chuckled sinisterly and said, "Lu Shao Xia is quite shameless; you stole our horses and now act like we are following you willingly. You speak as if you're innocent while being naked yourself and claim others lack decorum—what a reversal of truth!"
Xunuo was no less cunning than these two but felt slightly embarrassed due to his youthful face. The black-clad man's accusation made him feel somewhat uncomfortable. Just as he was about to retort, he reconsidered: these two were already doomed; arguing with them was pointless. Instead, it would be better to take this opportunity to probe into Nanyue Sect's motives behind their actions.
Xunuo forced a smile and said, "What's the point of saying such nonsense? It's no coincidence that we meet here; there's no need for grandiloquent words. Does it really matter whether I am Lu Zaisheng or not?"
The man in black sneered, "Of course there is a difference. If you weren't Lu Zaisheng, you might have a chance to escape."
At this point, Xunuo realized that the Nanyue Sect's actions were directed at him. This man in black spoke so recklessly, clearly confident and dismissive of Xunuo's presence. Xunuo retorted, "You don't even know where your own escape lies, yet you concern yourself with others' fates. Truly ignorant of how to write the word 'death.'"
Finished speaking, Xunuo clenched his fists and prepared to strike.
The man in black hurriedly said, "Wait! Where are my two elders now?"
Xunuo coldly snorted, "That's none of your business."
At that moment, the other man in black who had sparred with Chaykov remarked, "Though this guy seems to have changed somewhat, he should still be Lu Zaisheng. Let's take his life first."
Finished speaking, the two men attacked from either side.
Having broken through to the fifth layer of the Huayang Classic, Xunuo's True Qi flowed differently than before. As True Qi surged throughout his body, he felt as if a divine spirit had possessed him. He sensed an overwhelming strength coursing through him and was eager to test it against these two opponents. He swung his fists outward and charged forward.
Both men were skilled in internal martial arts as well. However, as soon as they clashed, they were forced back two steps before regaining their footing. The impact felt like colliding with a charging bull; not only did it fail to injure Xunuo, but it also left both of them numb on one side. They exchanged startled glances.
Xunuo had come with the intent to silence them and gave them no time to recover. He advanced with swift steps, fists flying out simultaneously, and within just three or five exchanges, he had overwhelmed both men.
One of the black-clad figures sensed the danger and retreated a step before turning to flee down the path they had come from. Xunuo paid him no mind and struck like lightning at the other man. With only one opponent left, it became even harder for him to defend himself. With a single punch aimed directly at his chest, Xunuo sent the man flying over ten steps before crashing to the ground. His ribcage had caved in completely.
Xunuo kicked the corpse into the river and turned to chase after another person. The man was running for his life, not expecting the battle to end so quickly. Hearing the rush of wind behind him, he turned around only to see a massive fist coming towards him. The next moment, everything went dark, and the last sound he heard was the crushing of his own skull.
Xunuo knew the outcome of this battle but did not anticipate that the process would be so swift. After infusing True Qi, not only was his punch powerful, but it also struck with lightning speed. He raised his fists to examine them, a satisfied expression on his face. After tidying up the battlefield a bit, he headed towards Wuhua Mountain.
Three days later, when Xunuo returned to Wuhua Mountain, it still bore a vigilant appearance. The patrolling disciples did not recognize Xunuo at first. Only after some time did they marvel and scrutinize him from head to toe. Xunuo was aware of his changes but offered no explanations; instead, he inquired about Jiang Tiesuo and the others' whereabouts. Upon learning that Jiang Tiesuo and the others had returned to Wuhua Sect one after another, he let out a sigh of relief and went up the mountain to report.
As soon as Xunuo arrived at Wuhua Sect, he was summoned to the sect leader's meeting room. Tian Feiyu, Gao Weiji, and several Hall Masters were present. Everyone was astonished to see that Xunuo had grown significantly in just over a month and began asking questions in surprise.
Xunuo then recounted a fabricated story from his hometown. It was about a woodcutter who accidentally consumed a spiritual fruit in the mountains, resulting in not only a dramatic change in appearance but also an increasingly youthful demeanor, living over a hundred years without ever falling ill. He simply replaced the mountain with a river in his tale.
The crowd looked at Xunuo with eyes full of astonishment as if they were gazing at a freak. Tian Feiyu was particularly concerned and hurriedly came over to check Xunuo's pulse and True Qi. Nervously, Xunuo gathered his True Qi into his Dantian and closed all his acupoints. After examining him thoroughly with no conclusive results, Tian Feiyu asked if Xunuo felt any discomfort to report immediately.
Ximen Tower then questioned Xunuo about how he escaped the assassination attempt. Xunuo merely stated that he jumped into the river and used water escape techniques, claiming ignorance of anything else. The others couldn't help but marvel at how fortunate Xunuo and his companions were to have escaped from two skilled opponents unscathed.
Then Ximen Tower's expression changed as he addressed Xunuo: "You have caused quite a mess this time; what punishment do you think you deserve?"
Xunuo was taken aback by these words and thought to himself: I have pushed all matters away cleanly. No one knows about the deaths of those four who pursued me. Besides, we did our best to protect Qingyang Boxing Hall. What further blame could there be?
After pondering for a long time without arriving at any conclusion, he dared not argue even slightly.
