Chapter 116: Cold Rain
Lin Feng and Lin Miaomiao were wandering through an alley in Gaojing, searching for a secluded place to settle down. They happened to come across a noodle shop that was up for transfer.
Lin Feng's eyes lit up as he said, "Isn't the tournament delayed for a few more days? Why don't we take over this noodle shop?"
"Do you have any money?" Lin Miaomiao asked.
Lin Feng pulled out a storage bag and replied, "You should know that I’ve been to the Master Ancestor's secret realm and looted everything."
"Hehe, I didn't expect you to be so wealthy now. But can you actually make noodles?" Lin Miaomiao asked, posing the second very important question.
Lin Feng honestly answered, "I can make a little."
"Then how can we run a noodle shop? Are you going to hire someone? I don’t want any outsiders living with us," Lin Miaomiao disagreed somewhat.
"In this remote alley, it doesn't matter how good the noodles taste. What’s important is that there’s a stunning beauty running the shop," Lin Feng joked.
Lin Miaomiao realized his intention and pretended to be angry as she said, "You men are all the same."
With that, Lin Miaomiao turned to leave.
"Miaomiao, what's wrong?" Lin Feng asked in confusion, hurriedly following her.
"Of course, I'm going to bring Magenta Sister here. With two beauties in charge, wouldn’t business be even better?" Lin Miaomiao replied.
"Oh."
Hearing this, Lin Feng's mood soured. The idea was good, but the situation was far from ideal. Out of sight, out of mind. What troubled Lin Feng was not Magenta herself, but the task she intended to undertake.
Seeing each other day after day, unable to fulfill their desires, yet constantly tempted—how could one find peace in such a scenario?
"It seems Miaomiao is deliberately testing me," Lin Feng said with a bitter smile.
The Jiuzhou Gathering Conference had been postponed for seven days due to a more pressing matter that had arisen in Gaojing.
In the year 8976 of the Jiuzhou Continent, which corresponded to the 1126th year of the Great Zhou Empire's Martial Calendar, a rare storm struck the once tranquil Gaojing after a century.
Two hundred and twenty-two miles east of the imperial city lay a vast expanse of water. On the shores of this ocean, countless soldiers clad in Xuanjia stood densely packed.
The night was deep and dark, with torrential rain pounding down on these black-armored soldiers. Their expressions were calm as if they were nailed to the ground, enduring the rain and wind without moving an inch.
Not far away, waves suddenly surged on the sea surface, and then a massive warship broke through the surf, making its way toward the shore.
The night sky was thick with clouds, occasionally illuminated by flashes of lightning striking around the warship, adding an eerie chill to its presence. Each time lightning flashed across the vessel, it revealed terrifying gashes and mottled patches on its hull.
It appeared that this warship had endured countless brutal battles.
Before the warship could fully dock, two generals clad in silver high-level battle armor soared into the air, weaving through the black storm before landing on the deck of the warship.
As they surveyed their surroundings, they found no sign of what they had hoped to see among those aboard.
At that moment, an elderly man draped in a rain cloak stepped forward from among the crowd. He wore a black brocade robe and appeared somewhat frail; his hair had turned gray, giving him an air of weakness as if a gust of wind could sweep him away.
Upon seeing the old man, both generals immediately displayed expressions of respect. They bowed in unison and said, "Lord Qi, where is Cold Commander? His Majesty has sent a decree for his summons."
The old man waved his hand slightly and said softly, "No need for formalities, the Cold Commander has already gone to Cape Tower."
Cape Tower is the most renowned pleasure district in Gaojing, without exception. This is where Walkers indulge in their pleasures. Naturally, the women serving there are also Walkers.
Inside a Parlor, a man dressed in coarse cloth sat. His clothes were somewhat worn, and his hair was a bit disheveled, simply tied up in a bun with a chopstick.
This man had an ordinary appearance, looking no different from the porters on the street.
Before him sat a beautiful woman in a yellow dress, her shoulders partially exposed, her face adorned with an alluring smile. Her delicate hands danced over the Guzheng, producing delightful notes.
The middle-aged man looked at the Yellow-Dressed Woman with a sense of satisfaction, occasionally drinking from his own cup.
At that moment, the door of the Parlor suddenly opened. A woman in a white long dress walked in. She calmly folded her white umbrella and placed it by the door as if she had entered her own home.
The White-Clad Woman exuded a strong scholarly aura, resembling a refined lady who rarely left her boudoir, which felt somewhat out of place in this setting.
With the appearance of the White-Clad Woman, the Guzheng player revealed deep fear and fled in panic.
The White-Clad Woman had a waist as slender as a willow's and gracefully bowed to the middle-aged man, speaking softly, "Cold Rain pays her respects to Mr. Qi Si."
Upon seeing the White-Clad Woman, Qi Si was initially taken aback, his movements freezing for a moment. Then he revealed a bitter smile and said, "I arrived in Gaojing just three hours ago, and I've already been sought out by the Cold Commander."
Cold Rain remained dignified and indifferent as she replied quietly, "Little did you know that it took me three years to catch up to these three hours today."
"Does King Wu really want to eradicate everyone after unifying Zhongzhou for a century?" The middle-aged man showed displeasure.
Cold Rain simply stated, "You should not have come to Gaojing."
The middle-aged man smiled faintly and said, "There are eyes everywhere in Gaojing. I thought I was being discreet, yet I was still discovered. But I had to come to Gaojing."
"Why?" Cold Rain asked.
The middle-aged man looked at Cold Rain and fell silent for a moment before he smiled again. "You've been hunting my senior brother and a few others for three years. This is the first time I've met you in person. Truly captivating, a sight to behold. If you would just smile at me, I would tell you the reason."
"You are a senior; it shouldn't be difficult for a junior to make you smile," Cold Rain replied, pressing her lips tightly together before slightly lifting the corners of her mouth, forcing a smile.
Qi Si, witnessing this awkward expression, couldn't help but spit out the wine he had in his mouth with a laugh. "Forget it; maybe it's better if you don't smile."
"The reason," Cold Rain said calmly.
"First, answer me a question," Qi Si said, revealing an unusual seriousness.
"Is Mr. Qi Si's word not enough?" Cold Rain's tone turned slightly cold.
Qi Si poured another cup of wine and continued, "We've known each other for three years; is it really worth getting upset over? Or do beautiful women always like to nitpick?"
Cold Rain remained composed and replied coolly, "One question each; Mr. Qi Si should answer mine first."
"The Disciple of the Qi Sword Pavilion has been on the run for three years, constantly fleeing from state to state. Why have you come to the capital of the Great Zhou Empire today to throw yourself into the net?"
"Because we discovered a hidden realm," Qi Si answered.
"What hidden realm?" Cold Rain pressed further.
"You should answer my question first," Qi Si smiled.
Cold Rain paused for a moment, contemplating, and suddenly said, "You four from Qijian Pavilion are not fleeing to various states for your lives, but rather seeking the secret realms again?"
"My senior brothers and I may not be as talented as you from the Great Zhou Empire, but the world is vast. If we want to survive, it is quite easy," Qi Si replied with a smile, tacitly agreeing.
Cold Rain felt a chill in his heart. Over the years, he had been tasked with hunting down the remnants of Qijian Pavilion, thinking he was chasing them as they fled. He never expected that he had been led by the nose all along.
With a cold snort, Cold Rain said, "Mr. Qi Si has quite the audacity. Do you think you can still live to see another day?"
"I have long heard of you but never met. Today, let me experience the Divine Ability of this rising star."
As Qi Si finished speaking, he suddenly seemed to remember something and burst into laughter.
"What is Mr. Qi Si laughing about?" Cold Rain asked.
Qi Si stared at Cold Rain as if seeing him for the first time. He said, "I didn't expect someone so beautiful to also be a deceiver."
"What do you mean by that, Mr. Qi?"
"One question each. It’s now your turn to answer mine. If I had attacked just now, wouldn't my question have slipped by you?"
Cold Rain replied, "I had no such intention. Please ask your question, Mr. Qi."
Qi Si thought for a moment and then asked seriously, "What is King Wu's current foundation? Has he become a saint?"
"Do you remnants still dare to plot against His Majesty?"
Cold Rain suddenly revealed a mocking smile and looked at Qi Si with some sympathy. "You and I are merely in the Master Realm now, and it has been foretold that His Majesty would ascend before the Centennial. As for his current foundation, I cannot say."
“Has Centennial already broken through to the Cave Profound Realm? I wonder if he has become a Saint in this Centennial time,” Qi Si said in a low tone, revealing a hint of sorrow and concern.
“Disciple Cold Rain from Azure Cloud Sect seeks guidance from Mr. Qi Si of the Great Zhou Empire's Dusi Mansion Governor.”
With that, it was time for the decisive battle.
“Is it here? If I take pleasure in this place and then ruin it, that would not be good. Why not choose another location?” Qi Si asked.
“Mr. Qi Si may seem like a mere vendor, but he is indeed a refined gentleman. Please.”
Two figures shot through the storm like two meteors, dazzling beyond compare, surpassing even the brilliance of thunder. (To be continued)
