Chapter Ten: Falling into a Coma
"Child, come down."
Lin Feng's father, Lindor, pleaded as well. He could hardly bear the thought of something happening to Lin Feng in front of him.
"Father..." Lin Feng looked at his parents, hesitating to speak. As a child, he shouldn't have to worry his parents. Seeing the deep concern in their eyes made Lin Feng seriously consider giving up.
"Hmph, shameless."
A sudden sharp voice rang out. Although the voice was not loud, Lin Feng heard it clearly. He turned toward the sound and saw a purple figure standing on the hillside opposite the Training Ground.
"It's her," Lin Feng guessed, recognizing the girl he had seen that day.
Lin Longyu naturally heard it too. His brows furrowed in anger as he exclaimed, "Who dares to speak so recklessly? Show yourself!"
As he spoke, Lin Longyu scanned the surroundings, his gaze landing on the purple figure atop the hill. Upon recognizing who it was, he decided not to pursue the matter further.
Lin Xiao was most familiar with that voice. Without turning around, he called out loudly, "Miao'er, didn't I tell you to stay indoors? Are you disobeying me?"
The Purple-Dressed Girl on the hillside heard Lin Xiao's voice and made a face at his back before turning and disappearing from view.
"Five..."
Lin Qing began to count down. He gripped his spiritual weapon tightly, ready to strike at any moment. He counted slowly on purpose, giving Lin Feng a chance to respond.
Lin Feng clenched his fists, still wavering inside. Even the girl could see how shameless Lin Qing's family was, using their background to force him into submission. Was he really going to bow down to that old scoundrel Lin Longyu and submit to the injustices of this world?
"Feng'er, please listen to your father," Lin Feng's mother pleaded again, her face streaked with tears.
Lin Feng looked at his distressed parents, feeling a deep pain in his heart, mixed with complex emotions. His parents had lived ordinary lives, struggling in a world where strength was revered. They had spent their lives depending on the goodwill of others. Now, having fortuitously obtained the Stone Pearl and made significant progress in his Foundation, he had finally gained the recognition of Lin Xiao, the Head of the Lin Family, who granted him a tea garden, allowing his parents to hold their heads high.
This was the harsh reality: only by being strong could one attain what was deemed fair.
"Four..."
Unknowingly, Lin Qing had called out three breaths; now only two breaths remained. According to Lin Qing, if Lin Feng did not concede, it meant he tacitly agreed to continue the contest.
"Three..."
As the countdown reached the third breath, Lin Feng glanced at Lin Xiao, hoping for guidance. He wanted to give up for the sake of survival, but that lingering frustration within him refused to dissipate; instead, it grew stronger. He needed a reason, a guiding light.
Lin Xiao looked at Lin Feng with concern and then solemnly shook his head while uttering two words—thirty.
Thirty was a hint; it did not mean that Lin Feng had to endure until he turned thirty to seek justice. It referred to the saying that fortunes change every thirty years.
It was a simple truth; outsiders could see clearly while those involved were often confused. With just this little insight, Lin Feng began to understand.
"Yes, why should I care about a moment's victory or defeat? What has happened to me today?"
Lin Feng thought to himself that perhaps it was because he had always been oppressed. Now that he had finally defeated Lin Qing in the highly anticipated Martial Examination of the Lin family and gained recognition in Qingshan Town, he suddenly faced a turning point and realized that everything still felt unattainable. In the past, he could endure being bullied due to his low status. But now that he had relied on his own strength to defeat Lu Qing, he found it unbearable to bow his head again.
With this realization, Lin Feng finally came to terms with the truth. Strength was not solely about individual capability; the network of relationships behind it was also an essential component of true power.
Lin Qing had been watching Lin Feng intently, hoping for him to accept the challenge so he could eliminate him in one fell swoop. Suddenly, Lin Qing noticed that the anger in Lin Feng's eyes had vanished, and a jolt of realization struck him—Lin Feng was about to concede.
Today was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to kill Lin Feng. If he let this chance slip away, Lin Feng's survival would serve as proof of his own failure, a thought he could not bear. Moreover, with Lin Feng's remarkable status in the Foundation, finding another opportunity to eliminate him would not be easy.
Thus, Lin Qing decided to act decisively.
Lin Feng turned slightly towards his parents and smiled, nodding to indicate that he was conceding, reassuring them.
At that moment, Lin Qing suddenly shouted, "Two, one."
Then he immediately struck, letting the blood from his right index finger drip into the spirit artifact. The beast bone artifact erupted with brilliant light as a powerful pressure quickly gathered.
"You dare..."
Lin Xiao was furious and immediately sprang into action, hoping to stop everything from happening in time.
"Head of the family, this is a fair competition among the young disciples; we shouldn't interfere," Lin Longyu said as he moved to block Lin Xiao just as he was about to act.
Bang...
Lin Xiao's fists collided with Lin Longyu's in a deafening roar that seemed to shake the ground beneath them. A surge of powerful True Qi radiated outward, shattering the wooden chairs nearby. Fortunately, they were surrounded by elder-level figures; had there been younger disciples present, they would have either been killed or severely injured by the backlash.
Above the Foundation Realm lies the Nurturing Origin Realm; the difference between two Foundations is like heaven and earth.
“Lin Longyu, what do you want to do? Destroy the future of our Lin Clan?” Lin Xiao exclaimed angrily.
“Head of the family, he is just an ordinary child. There’s no need to make such a big fuss over this. My lineage has contributed significantly to our Lin family, and we hold half of the power within the clan. I urge you to discern right from wrong,” Lin Longyu threatened openly.
It was precisely because of such a protective grandfather that Lin Shan and Lin Qing felt emboldened in Qingshan Town, bullying anyone they disliked without hesitation.
On the Training Ground, no one interfered as the battle continued.
The spiritual weapon slowly floated up, dazzling like the blazing sun. The reason why those in the Cultivation Realm were so much stronger than those in the Foundation Realm was that they not only relied on True Qi but also absorbed Vital Energy from the surroundings for their own use. This spiritual weapon contained Vital Energy Power. A strand of Vital Energy held energy equivalent to thousands of strands of True Qi.
Lin Feng could not bear to look directly at the spiritual weapon; he had to raise his right hand to shield his eyes from its blinding light. As he sensed the power radiating from the weapon, he felt a chill of death creeping over him, every hair on his body standing on end.
“Die!”
Lin Qing unleashed all his power, and the full might of the spiritual weapon surged toward Lin Feng like a tidal wave. The Vital Energy Power was astonishing, causing countless spiderweb-like cracks to appear on the ground as it swept forward.
“If I don’t die today, I will surely avenge this grievance in the future.”
Lin Feng let out a reluctant roar; he refused to wait for death. Instead, he unleashed the Five Elements Fist to its utmost limit, spreading his True Qi throughout his body, transforming it into the essence of the Five Elements Fist in hopes of preserving his life.
“Feng'er…”
Seeing this scene, Lin Feng's mother could not bear it any longer. She let out a wail before fainting on the spot.
Bang…
The power of the spirit artifact completely overwhelmed Lin Feng, emitting a Thunderous Roar. Except for the elders of the Lin Family, along with a few others like Lin Xiao and Lin Longyu, no one could see what was happening amidst the dazzling white light.
It was unclear how much time had passed before the power of the spirit artifact finally dissipated. Lin Feng's figure vanished from everyone's sight.
"My child..."
Lin Feng's father, unable to tend to his wife, handed her over to Neighbor Aunt and then frantically rushed to where Lin Feng had stood. It turned out that a deep pit had been created by the force of the spirit artifact, and Lin Feng lay at the bottom of it.
Without a second thought, Lindor jumped into the pit. He picked up Lin Feng and desperately called out his name, but he was covered in blood and unconscious.
"Child, you can't die. You can't just leave me and your mother like this..."
Lindor held Lin Feng tightly, trying to climb out of the pit to seek help. However, the pit was taller than his head, and not understanding cultivation, he couldn't leap out while carrying Lin Feng.
At that moment, Lin Xiao arrived at the edge of the pit. He extended his right hand, and a force pulled both Lindor and Lin Feng out of the pit.
"Master, please save my child," Lindor pleaded helplessly to Lin Xiao.
Without hesitation, Lin Xiao took hold of Lin Feng and leaped away, disappearing from sight in just a few moments.
Lindor's eyes turned red as he spotted Lin Qing—the one responsible for his child's death. Filled with rage, Lindor shouted, "I will kill you."
Lin De clenched his fists and clumsily lunged at Lin Qing.
"Useless."
Lin Qing let out a cold snort and unleashed a punch, several streams of True Qi flowing from her. Before Lindor could close the distance, those streams struck him, sending him flying.
Lindor crashed to the ground, unable to suppress the mouthful of fresh blood that spilled from him. He had no idea how many bones in his body were broken. Ignoring his injuries, he scrambled to his feet, crazed with the desire to continue fighting Lin Qing.
“Qing, since you’ve won, that’s enough. Don’t harm the innocent; come back,” Lin Longyu spoke up.
“Yes.”
Lin Qing replied and disdainfully glanced at Lindor before striding away. Lindor was simply unable to pursue her.
Lin Shan approached Lin Qing with a beaming face and congratulated her, “Congratulations, brother! You’ve defeated Lin Feng; the title of the strongest in the Lin family belongs to you now.”
At that moment, Lin Qing's mind was not on rankings. She turned to her grandfather and asked, “Grandpa, is Lin Feng dead?”
“A Foundation Realm cultivator can’t survive a full-force strike from a Nurturing Origin Realm unless he’s a reincarnated deity,” Lin Longyu affirmed.
