The dawn had just broken.
Ding Ying's expression changed as she dragged the already unconscious Liu Linglang, disappearing once again into the Red Pearl.
A morning breeze swept through the ravaged hillside, brushing past two bodies that were gradually cooling.
On the second night.
After receiving a dream from Ding Ying, Zhang Ye hurried over, only to find the corpses of Wei Qiuxi and Wang Chuyi. His brow furrowed as he looked at Ding Ying, whose eyes were red with tears. "What happened? How did this suddenly…"
Ding Ying lowered her head and wept silently, not answering.
Zhang Ye approached Wei Qiuxi's body and sighed. "Old Wei, Old Wei, I've been looking for you for years. I never expected that when I finally see you again, you'd be… gone like this. I'm really damn frustrated. Damn it!"
Ding Ying, unaware of the details, hurriedly asked, "What do you mean?"
Zhang Ye's face turned red in an instant as he waved his hands in denial. Clearing his throat, he asked Ding Ying, "What should we do now?"
Ding Ying let out a soft sigh. "What else can we do? We need to find Wei Ning. These two were the most important people in his life. Suddenly losing them… I really don't know how he will bear this blow." Thinking of Wei Ning made Ding Ying's heart ache, and tears fell from her eyes.
Zhang Ye nodded. "There's no other way. Once someone dies, they can't come back to life. This old man Wang seemed pretty capable; how could this happen… Sigh, who killed them? Was it that wretch Lin Lingsu?"
Ding Ying shook her head and pleaded softly, "Brother Zhang, please don't ask anymore..."
Seeing Ding Ying's pitiful appearance made Zhang Ye feel a pang of sympathy. "Well… anyway, they were all involved in their own troubles; why bother? But still… Old Wei, Old Wei, you've messed up my life..."
"Brother Zhang, I’m counting on you for this…" Ding Ying said. "I can't carry them back alone. As the saying goes, fallen leaves return to their roots. Please buy two decent coffins and send them to Wei Ning."
"Of course," Zhang Ye replied. "But Wei Zi has been elusive lately; I don’t even know where he is right now!"
"He should be with that Old Ghost now. Just make sure to send their bodies back to Wei Ning’s hometown."
"Alright, I'll set off right away. The journey isn’t far; but if these two… well, that would be bad—Ding Ying, do you have any plans? Should we look for Wei Zi? Honestly, he seems quite concerned about you."
Ding Ying said, "As a ghost myself, I don’t deserve him. It’s just that his master entrusted me with some matters before he died; I must find him."
"Then let's not waste any more time; let’s get moving."
After Ding Ying and Zhang Ye left, a piercing roar suddenly echoed through the previously silent mountainside under the moonlight. From the pile of rubble emerged a red creature, buried beneath the stones due to a fierce battle, unnoticed by Ding Ying and Zhang Ye.
"Woo... woo..." The mournful cry shattered the night sky.
Wei Ning finally regained consciousness, instinctively leaping up and exclaiming, "Where am I?"
A voice nearby replied, "You’re finally awake."
"It’s you!" Wei Ning said coldly. "What are you doing here?"
"Heh heh, blood tastes great, doesn’t it? We are the same in that regard, so I can tell you that you will become addicted to it. Just like I am," Wei Xian Gui said, smirking as he spoke.
"Here." Wei Xian Gui handed over a cup of fresh blood, instantly filling the room with a thick, metallic scent.
Wei Ning turned his head away. Unfazed, Wei Xian Gui took a hesitant sip and said leisurely, "We are both Blood Corpses; our power comes from blood. You’ve already begun to understand the benefits of strength. In time, you will understand even more. Trust me; I will make you a unique being in this world—no, a 'God'!"
Wei Ning scoffed three times. "Why should I trust you?"
"Simply because I possess overwhelming strength compared to you." Without waiting for a response, Wei Xian Gui moved swiftly, launching a series of attacks. Wei Ning felt a shift in his mind as two Blood Corpses engaged in a rapid exchange of blows that ordinary people could not perceive. After ten exchanges, Wei Xian Gui halted his attacks and calmly regarded the slightly breathless Wei Ning. "This is strength."
Though it was only a few moves, Wei Xian Gui's overwhelming power had already put Wei Ning in a difficult position. He glanced at Wei Xian Gui and asked, "Aren't you afraid that once I surpass you in strength, I will kill you?"
Wei Xian Gui smiled slightly. "I would welcome that." With that, he stepped outside and looked up at the stars. A shooting star streaked across the sky, and he suddenly frowned. "Is he dead?"
"Who died?"
Wei Xian Gui smiled faintly. "You will find out soon enough—a pitiful person like me who struggles in this world yet cannot achieve Reincarnation."
In his heart, Wei Xian Gui silently thought: "Old Wang, you've gotten your wish; what about me? You know this world is much less enjoyable without you."
"You should rest for half a day; I will come to find you tomorrow," Wei Xian Gui said before sweeping away.
Meanwhile, Zhang Ye had not yet reached the Wei Family when he was intercepted by someone. The newcomer coldly commanded, "Come here."
Zhang Ye paused slightly but felt that this person exuded an intimidating presence. He retorted coldly, "On what grounds? I still have to travel; I don't have time to play with an old man like you."
Wei Xian Gui circled around the two coffins being pulled behind Zhang Ye and remarked, "Are these your master and grandfather?"
Zhang Ye hurriedly asked, "Do you know Wei Ning? Is he home right now?"
Wei Xian Gui did not respond verbally but nodded and said, "Follow me."
Zhang Ye followed Wei Xian Gui to a run-down house that he had temporarily rented. The place was dilapidated, isolated from the village in front and the shops behind, clearly chosen by Wei Xian Gui to avoid drawing attention.
Inside the house, Wei Ning was resting with his eyes closed. The backlash from the lightning strike had nearly healed, and upon hearing Zhang Ye's voice, he quickly emerged. Seeing the two coffins that Zhang Ye was holding, an ominous feeling surged within him. He frowned and asked, "Brother Zhang, what is this…"
Zhang Ye's expression was strange; he didn't know how to answer. He sighed and said, "You should see for yourself."
Wei Ning's sense of foreboding intensified as he cautiously opened the first coffin. Inside lay Wang Chuyi, but due to the suddenness of Wang Chuyi's death, Wei Ning couldn't bring himself to believe it. He looked at Zhang Ye, hoping for a denial.
But Zhang Ye nodded.
In that moment, it felt as if Wei Ning had been struck by lightning. He staggered and nearly fainted, but thankfully Zhang Ye caught him. Wei Ning clutched Zhang Ye's collar, tears welling up in his eyes as he cried out, "What happened? Brother Zhang, tell me—what happened to my master?"
Zhang Ye sighed again and said, "Wei, you should look at the other coffin." He felt a pang of sympathy for Wei Ning, who had to bear the loss of two loved ones at once.
With trembling hands, Wei Ning approached the second coffin…
